I'll just set my sights on Quantum or Nano, and use Advanced Genetics to fly. Anyone who's used Advaned Genetics, can you have the characteristics of multiple types at once? Say, Iron Golem and Bat, perhaps.

I am using Bat DNA to fly and also injected Ender DNA to get my stuff back in case the character dies. The latter hasn't happened yet though, so I am not sure whether it works. The Ender injection came after the Bat injection and I can still fly. Therefore it seems different genetic manipulations do not overwrite previous enhancements.
I believe there's a way to check your own genetic makeup with some of the Advanced Genetics machines and see whether the different genes are active. I have removed all the mod's blocks from my workshop after darkinnit's announcement though and cannot check for myself right now.

Yes, that seems to work. I was able to see what genes I had injected in single player (creative mode).
To build the necessary microscope on the dakka server i need to create an Autodictionary from the Mariculture mod first as one of the ingredients for the microscope clashes with another mod. Do I need to go to the ocean age for oysters?

Edit: Found an oyster in the hellish ocean age.
Edit2: It works: Both enhancements are active in my blood

having quantum armour as well as power armour, I can certainly say that power armour is by far superior

yes you can have multiple Advanced Genetics Upgrades, i have flight and the iron golem and they both work

In my experiences, fully armoured (2 parts advanced plating, 1 parts shielding) powersuits are relatively easily broken by a few things. Sludge, Nether Wasps, Zombie Pigmen, Lava and Wither Skeletons being the 5 foremost in my experiences.

Quantum can combat things like wither and poision, however for what its worth a fully powershieleded powesuit is far better, pair it with extra health and creative flight from a bat plus a talisman of redmidium from thaumic tinker and your good to go.

Feh. Quantum's ability to heal seems extremely cool. And wither combatting? That's awesome. I need to hunt down a wither skeleton at some point, to get my farm up and running.

I have never died in Quantum/gravisuit but died a lot, generally from stupid power suit add-on related issues wearing power-suits.
Long term I would say quantum is better even if it is not quite all in 1 like the power suits.

i havent been on for a bit and i probably wont hop back on untill Dark announces if the server needs a reset or not, then ill worry about ender chests and such.

Is there a way to have two installations of FTB? I want a 1.0.9 version for Dakka and a newer one for my friend's server :(

Look into MultiMC - http://multimc.org/

You might be able to copy your 1.0.9 Monster directory into MultiMC's instances folder and have MultiMC launch it. (You might have to create a blank instance in MultiMC first to copy it into). EDIT: http://ftbwiki.org/Tutorial:Exporting_FTB_To_MultiMC

It's quite a good little launcher, but obviously it won't get updates from the FTB servers.

As for news on what's happening with the new server, I'll have some news soon, I hope, but nothing just yet... sorry :(

Is there any downside to setting up a base in the Promised Lands?

It seems like the constant daylight would be good for solar power and the lack of mobs is always nice.

Only thing I can think of is the lack of horizontal building space.

Just the void as a downside, I think.

And I don't know if it's because FtB is a separate system, but I know regular MineCraft now supports having multiple versions- I have a 1.6.something for my Modded world (forge, TC, RC) and a vanilla of the current one for the Dakka server.

If you fall in to the void in the promised lands don't you end up in the sky in the overworld?

Yes. I tested it. And since I have longfall boots that's not really an issue.

Is it always a single place in the Overworld, or does it correspond to the Skylands location? Because I could see some very fun things being done with trampolines or various other bounce pad items

As far as I know the Overworld coords that you get dropped from do indeed correspond to the Promised Lands coords. Unfortunately you can't fly up from the Overworld to the Promised Lands

4 you could have two separate launchers bound to two separate instance folders, one set to launch the updated version, the other to our version .

Fixed it, finally can join FTB server again.

I might have crashed the server with an Enhanced Portal to the end (no chunk loader on the other side). The portal frame's texture changed but the portal itself did not open. Shortly afterwards i lost the server connection and i cannot reconnect.

My apologies if it's my fault.

Edit: manually dialing the end portal did work earlier today both from the portal at spawn and at my workshop; it might be one of the portal texture settings on my workshop portal (that's where i lost connection)

So, here's some ideas on the courtyard of the mansion I am planning to have below my islands:

The decor on the grass is just a temporary thing, going to get ideas from Iustis about those. I might increase the scale of it-- it's going to be the middle of an O-shaped mansion.
