I read an article on why people love zombie flicks, the real, guilt free violence. Whats the appeal of Xenos in 40k, guilt free sadism in my mind. I really don't care about the feelings and suffering of orks or fish people, or endangered space elves. Thats why I don't care if they get tortured for no real reason or killed, their not presented as humans and not really even presented as animals, so I can care more about my cat than the fish man whose being sawed open while still alive for "science" by the Inquisition. I know I don't sound like the healthies of individuals when I say this but as human animals I think we all have repressed animal savegery, the same kind that makes my cat "play" with her prey.

Like the great storm of the Horus Heresy, the forces of the True Gods will descend upon the Emperor's minions. The stars will tremble at their passage and the mighty armadas of the Warmaster Abaddon will bring annihilation to a hundred worlds. Know this, for these things will come to pass.

While its true people have repressed some things, I don't think 40k makes you like ourselves over the Xenos races. People will always connect with characters no matter their form. Whether they be elf or cat or human or Necron. Characters are characters and you'll like them or hate them no matter the form.

Let me be blunt. I don't mean this as a character attack against you but hell that's exactly what it will come across as so I apologize beforehand. I find this xenohate to be getting really silly. Alien is not derived from biology it is derived from mentality. Science fiction books and movies have incredibly lovable and sympathetic aliens and robots because they have human attributes. If you can watch as chewbacca has his heart ripped out just because he's an alien and not feel anything than you got problems that extend way beyond the animal instinct of kill or be killed.

Of course if the alien has no human attributes its easier, as many of the 40k aliens are portrayed. Having nothing remotely human about them.

Which is frankly a refreshing departure from the normal Sci-fi aliens being just humans in different bodies.

I hope its done humanly, but I care about as much as I do about the chickens I eat and the pain they go through.

Dehumanizing the enemy is a common method of coming to acceptance with violence. Its why Human on Alien/Robot/Whathaveyou games/movies can get lower ratings than Human on Human ones, despite the same level of violence being committed.

Sadly the same logic that allows us to accept violence against zombies and aliens, has been used repeatedly to justify genocide of other humans.

Know thy self. Everything follows this.

Have you ever read any background material on the Imperium of Man in 40k except propaganda posters? Or official material on Tau?

Wots you yammering 'bout. Every ork knowz speed freak iz best. Dem flashgitz have too many teeth fer their own good.

Bad Moons make good ATMs.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

People like xenos because of various reasons.

I myself like Eldar and Tau, Eldar have tragic story and Tau are a race full of new hope and dreams.

I hate every other xeno, why? Because beside these two mentioned every other xeno race are acting like douchebags to Humanity. Orks want to kill us all, Dark Eldar ensalve us, Tyranids want's to eat us and Necrons want to rule us/wipe us out.

Eldar and Tau are the only races who actually want to sit down and talk to us, we do not get well with them most of the time but when times are desperate we put our difference away and cooperate.

The universe has many horrors yet to throw at us. This is not the end of our struggle. This is just the beginning of our crusade to save Humanity. Be faithful! Be strong! Be vigilant!

This is 100% wrong. If orks wanted to kill all non orks you would have been dead before the heresy.

Orks love to fight and you can't fight with dead people. I'm pretty sure orks fight more among themselves than against other races because others are too weedy, you can find other orks easier and orks don't die so fast.

You are right, they kill all the ones who are worthy of killing, they just enslave the rest.
And trust me - if they ever get united as a race they will kill everyone.

Ever heard of Yarric? or Tuska?

Why would an ork be interested of enslaving an agriculture planet?

In an ironic sense agree with SAHAAL; I love the Dark Eldar because of their guilt-free sadism. They know what they are and love it!

I love the Dark Eldar just cause they are seriously messed up Plus the fact they get power from causing pain is god damn awesome. Then again I love the Word Bearers because in a way they are innocent they didnt want to turn traitor but the stupid corpse emporer basically forced them to "No Lorgar you cant worship me now watch as Guilliman destroys your city and then you must be guarded by my body guards cause i dont trust you". In other words the emporer and Guilliman was a complete douche to them and now the Word Bearers are getting their revenge. However at the same time I also love the Black Templars because I love Knights and Black Templars are basicaly crusader Knights not some silly space monks

Frankly I'd disagree. Eldar, Tau, and now, sadly IMO, Necrons are honestly very human in their portrayal. Only the Tyranids and to a somewhat lesser extent the Orks really count as alien aliens.

And Daemons if you count them.

Word.

I think a point that a lot of people are missing is that, despite the terrors of the Xeno and the Warp-born, the greatest threats that Humanity has faced (in M41, M30, or even further back in its history) have all been wrought by human hands. Neither the Warp nor the Xeno are half as capable of inflicting evils upon Humanity as Humanity itself is.

In my DH games, while wiping out Xeno or Heretic enclaves may be the required job of the Inquisition and its servants, I make sure to illustrate the human cost of consigning people to death who just wanted to live differently than society/the law demanded.

So... no. "Guilt-free sadism" is not why I like Xenos. Not at all.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.
