Imperial Navy Transport "Holy Fire"

I've belatedly decided I should probably get a flyer to support my IG , But I'm not sure which flyer I should go with .

The Avenger strike fighter has awesome all-round firepower, but the vendetta sounds like an awesome AT unit with transport capability.

Opinions?

Vendetta. 3x Twin Linked Lascannons, transport capacity to get a vet squad (troops) across the board, and AV12 for a steal in terms of points.

Hard to beat that.

The Avenger is versatile, but its far less effective with Anti Vehicle shooting and both more expensive and less durable than the Vendetta. The vulture with quad rocket pods or the punisher is the most viable alternative to the vendetta for its anti-infantry firepower.

Transport capacity wins it for the Vendetta, every time.

Vendetta. The Avenger is good. The Vendetta is overpowered. Unless you have a very good reason you go with the default and take the overpowered unit.

That said, the Avenger is still a very good unit, and you won't regret taking one unless you're playing in an extremely competitive environment. It's just not as overpowered as the Vendetta.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Vendetta. If you find yourself in a meta where people are like "oh people just spam Vendetta, I'm going to play a green tide" then change it to a Valk and use anti hoard weapons. Easy model conversion, and cost/playstyle are identical.

Besides, the avenger is fugly.

Just wanted to add the Thunderbolt into the conversation as well. Two twinlinked autocannons, twin linked las and the bombs as well.

So it has less firepower than the vendetta, less armour, costs more, Why would you take one over a vendetta? To add bombs will make it about 100 points more than the vendetta.

-Can still Deep Strike
-Takes Heavy Support Slot
-Can Target two units per turn (Bombs)
-More shots from nose-gun (TLAC instead of TLLC)
-Can take Chaff-launcher, Infra-red Targeting, Illum Flares, Distinctive Paint Scheme
-Can repair Locked Velocity on a 6

Not to say that these make the Thunderbolt worth it, but these are the Thunderbolt's advantages over the Vendetta.

Considering all the other wonderfully killy things you have taking up heavy support slots, isn't this a bad thing?

Not to mention two twin-linked auto cannons and a twin linked Lascannon totals 4 S7 and 1 S9 shot, as compared to 3 S9 shots from a Vendetta. That's 5 shots of opening a rhino or chimera instead of 3.

Albeit, at lower Strength. But still, 5 shots! :-)

Generally speaking with IG, yes. You'll want Tanks or heavy weapons squads in the heavy slots and fliers in the fast slots.

Not when you're spamming flyers.

Vendettas are an unbelievable value. People are scared. They are cheap. They reliably down tanks and monsters. You can't go qwrong wit them. if you haev some extra Lascannons laying around, you can put one together for under $50 (Ebay style).

While I agree that Vendettas are amazing, they do have a flaw. That 130pts can't kill more than 3 boyz/guardsmen/whatever cheap spammable model per turn, and will only be on the table for around 4 turns out of 6.

Of course that's not often, but lists that rely heavily on Vendettas do have a competitive hard counter in Green tide.

Vendettas are awesome.

Just, for the love of pete, actually model it with three twin-linked lascannons. Every time I see one which doesn't actually have the right weaponry modeled, the gods of wargaming cry, and I'm tempted to tell the person we're going to play it as having what it's actually modeled with.

"Give me time" is my cry! It's got 2 TL LCs, I just need to find the parts for the last one.

I agree on the WYSIWYG point. FFS, just model the right stuff on your guys.

On the Valkyrie sprue is the multi-laser and the lascannon for the nose. Take the Lascannon one and the end of the barrel from the Multi-laser. Attach end of barrel of multi-laser to end of sensor thingy above the lascannon. Voila! Twin Linked Lascannon.

>.> Already used that. I scavenged some LCs from a buddy's bits box, but I refuse to pay ebay prices for the LCs. I've been meaning to buy a HWT box for a while, when I get round to it.

My other two are WYSIWYG, but I foolishly painted this one before thinking about it forever ago, and I'm concerned about ruining the amazing (for my meagre skill) paint job I managed to give it.

I most likely wouldn't use one in a pure guard army but as an ally then i think it would be worth it. I was thinking of adding one to my sisters army along with a vulture with punisher cannons.
