Couldn't find an existing thread, so I thought I'd drop this here for everyone.
Spartan have released a new ruleset called 'Armoured Clash'
http://www.spartangames.co.uk/games/armoured-clash
and the obligatory blurb:
Armoured Clash
MASS ARMOURED WARFARE IN THE EXCITING WORLD OF DYSTOPIAN WARS
Armoured Clash is a new and exciting set of Victorian super science fiction wargaming rules, designed to massively expand the theatre of armoured ground warfare within the hugely successful world of Dystopian Wars. The rules have been designed with a cinematic feel, giving a fast & furious gaming experience.
All the rules, stat cards, etc are all available completely free, all you need are the models (which are just the Dystopian Wars ones) and dice.
Haven't had a chance to look in-depth, but it seems like a streamlined dys wars with a little hint of Epic 40K, so it should be a fun outing.

Looks interesting, but I wish there were closer pics of the models (maybe there are somewhere?).
This was interesting, too:
FEEDBACK & DEVELOPMENT
With the core rules and initial statistics now available we are very eager to interact with our gaming community and to pull in feedback. The development of the rules is ongoing, and during the next few weeks (we are looking at March 18th as a first cut off point) your feedback will be invaluable. The ideal way to do this is to contact us directly using the rules@spartangames.co.uk email address and please add Armoured Clash to the Subject field. This will go directly to our rules writers who can look at and assess your feedback.
During this time updated documents will be added to the web site, and we’ll keep you posted about these. Thanks in advance for your help is the ongoing development of our exciting ground warfare ruleset set in the world of Dystopian Wars.

It looks like this is basically alternate rules for the existing Dystopian Wars ground forces...
Basically, a system to treat squads of armored vehicles as 'units' to make massive games playable?
|
Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
Play the games that make you happy. |

It's a free game, and as such, it is good. Cheers for the heads up.

I really wish they would start focusing alittle more attention to the rulesets they already have rather then start new ones...

Spartan Games has always operated like this. They still have yet to release Firestorm Invasion as well. It's pretty much the reason I find their games undesirable; they churn out entirely new games or factions for their games at such an absurd rate that those considering playing a single game or faction would seem neglected.
At least this time they're releasing alternate rulesets for an existing game. It's not a completely new game; it's like Apocalypse rules for 40k.

It puzzles me. The accusation of neglect always comes up in those situations. Seriously, what more do you expect for the other games? Firestorm Invasion was clearly marked as a sideproject. Besides that Uncharted Seas seems complete enough. Firestorm: Armada has plenty of stuff to play with and just saw plenty of new stuff at the end of last year. Both clealry seem to be not nearly as popular as Dystopian Wars which sees regular attention. In DW the Ground War clearly has the least fans. To make that more popular seems like a good idea even if I personally don´t care much. Dystopian Legions has seen monthly releases, too, hasn´t it? So enlighten me, what more do you expect?
Maybe Armoured Clash will make me interested in Ground Warfare. The models are nice enough, a nicely playing army of crab thingies for my Antarctica doesn´t sound too bad. I´ll take a look. At least they don´t release a ruleset and revise it some months later like they used to but get feedback first.

My guess is that this has to do with the land forces of Dystopian Wars not being as popular as the ships and blimps and the lack of popularity of mixed land + sea games. I know most people starting are not going to get the land starter sets, but are going to get the fleets.
So they've got this big line of land miniatures and want to give the people who are interested in it more they can do with it.
From a commercial standpoint, doing what they can to sell more land miniatures might actually be the priority they need to have.
But I've never been a fan of commercial miniature sales concerns impacting game design, even if I understand why it happens.
