Assault cannons are actually better against AV 12 than LCs are. This is because you have 4 shots, and each one of them will penetrate on a roll of 6.
A LC has a flat 50% of penetration and 16.66% of stripping a hull point.
The AC has the advantage of being able to be utilized on infantry to much greater effect than the LC.

Its the MM that you take, however, that will do the real work on drakes. Just make sure your within 12" of one. You have a 8/9 chance of hitting, 83% to penetrate, and each penetration has a 50% to destroy. (barring the 1/3 daemonic save). Simply put, those are good odds.

Considering flyers can shoot four weapons at full BS, I'd say they're good at all comers. If you can't fit the 30 points elsewhere, go for it.

I use them on my GK Raven. AC, MM Hurricane Bolters + Psybolt ammo (at least Marines cant take that away from us!...yet). S7 auto cannons rip apart fliers. Hurricane bolters at Strength 4 or 5 are are still really useful for clearing ground troops after your done with fliers and it even gives a chance to get some glancing hits on the rear armor of fliers like the Hell Drake. 12 TL rapid fire BS4 shots could easily score a few glancing hits on back armor, coupled with AC and MM its pretty much a certain kill.
I personally think they are worth the extra points although i know many dont.

GK's def have hurricane bolters due to psybolt ammo, they can hurt most flyers (av11).

I always run TL AC, TL MM and hurricane bolters, I do sometimes run typhoon instead of the MM's though but the cost starts to add up

Hurricane bolters are pretty awesome.
They give you the same firewpower as 6 TAC marines shooting. That's effectivly 5 points per bolter your paying for.

What makes it 'bonus' is that its on a platform thats more resiliant than 6 marines.

I always run mine assault cannons, hurricane bolters, missiles, and Psybolt ammo. However if I were running it with reg space marines I would run las cannon and multi melta.

Actually better than that because their twin linked. If you run hurricane bolters id suggest using the assault cannon. Then you can potms the MM to bust armor.

Something that's important to remember here is that in a single shooting phase you can either fire at ground targets with full BS or air targets with full BS...you choose each turn if you have skyfire or not.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

AC, MM, and sponsons seem to be the most versatile, and in most cases, deadly build. Skyfire MM is $$$$$$.

As a guard player who's faced Stormravens a lot, I think the hurricane bolters are worth it. They're cheap, and with PotMS, you can always fire at least one. It really helps mitigate the issue of positioning too. Your oh-so-expensive flier will always be able to shoot.

On a side note: I've had the displeasure of Hurricane bolters finishing off a Vendetta from behind. Wasn't too happy about it! It's not very common to get behind a flier, but with 3 on my side, I can afford to be be ballsy.

something to consider with the Helturkey as the primary target is the 5++ and IWND. You are really going to want to think about destroying them rather than going for hull point loss.
