Hi all

I've got a Saturday set aside for wargaming this weekend and am going to be playing against a Tau player at 750 pts level. I'm toying with proxying a Helbrute as a Decimator Chaos Engine (FW) to try it out before buying one so this is the list I've concocted bearing in my he likes to hide his firewarriors, crysis suits and stealth suits out of LOS ALL THE TIME.

Background info: No special FOC or other rules. Helbrute model will be raised 20mm or so to be more in line with the size of the Decimator model. Rules for the Decimator can be found at LINK

List:

[HQ]
Chaos Sorcerer
- Jump Pack
- Burning Brand
- Biomancy (1)
- 105 pts

[Elite]
Decimator Chaos Engine
- Siege Claw
- Butcher Cannon
- 215 pts

[Fast Attack]
Raptors
- Champion
- 2 x Meltagun
- Lightning Claw
- Sorcerer Tags Along Here
- 130 pts

[Troop]
Chaos Space Marines
- Champion
- 7 extra Marines
- VotLW
- 2 x Flamers
- 188 pts

[Troop]
Cultists
- Champion
- 10 extra Cultists
- 19 x Autoguns
- 109 pts

Tactics:
Decimator walks upfield laying down pain and suffering with the butcher cannon and heavy flamer, dodging the railgun shots as best as possible and keeping front facing to the regular mooks.
Sorcerer/Raptors Deep Strike oppurtunistically to take out tightly clumped groups of firewarriors.
Cultists go in reserve for holding home objectives.
CSM march upfield soakign up fire.

Considerations:
The cultists can be split into two groups of 10 each to hold multiple objectives.
The sorcerer/raptors can also start ont he board and slog upfield, depending on terrain layout.
Raptors can be equipped with flamers instead though that reduces my ability to instapop crysis suits and kill hammerheads.
Is lightning claw really necessary for the Raptors or should those 15 pts be put into more cultists/CSM?

Any comments are welcome.

Better go go with all vehicles or no vehicles tbh.

Decimation will just get blown up by broadside rail guns. If your opponent has 2 or 3 broadsides then he won't make it past turn 2. You will be glanced to death or exploded. That Str 10 AP 1 twin linked shot for only 70 points base is pretty nuts.

Maybe go with 10 noise marines with 2 blast masters instead, ignores cover will slaughter his puny fire warriors.

I happen to know that there will either be 1 broadside or 1 hammerhead, no more.

Noise marines have worked really well in the past, however my problem is still needing to get LOS of those buggers >.>

I'll take a look at running some predators/vindicators and chop down the raptors/csm.

Drop the Decimator and use a Hellbrute or Forgefiend/Maulfiend. I like the Decimator but for a low cost point, better to live it at home.

Whilst I do agree that that would probably be a good idea, the point of this list is try the Decimator out and see how it runs (as I said at the top). For those points I would normally run two Maulerfiends if I had the models.

I used it many time and I can tell you it was better in the 5th ed. If your opponent bring many lasecannon or other anti-tank weapon, it will exploded and you will not been able to use is unholy vigour (his a lasecannon magnet). The best way to use it is again small transports (Rhino etc). Big downpoint is is WS and BS of 3.... sad.

A good tip, stick a Warpsmith behind him.

much as I love the decimator model, it seems like knowingly pitting him against tau is throwing away points due to their nasty, long-range anti-tank. might be fun on a board with a lot of dense cover, though (tall city ruins, etc.).

if memory serves, raptors do not have the deep strick special rule. I think they only get Fear. don't have my book in front of me, though, so I could well be wrong.

Raptors have jump packs which allow them to deep strike.

ah, so they do. for some reason I had it in my head that deep strike was listed on the unit as a special rule rather than part of the jump infantry rules. thank you for correcting me
