I believe that's actually a Hazardous Environment cadian.
Personally, my vote is for Warhawks... or a female regiment.

I'm not sure where you get that. This image is actually older than Cadians. This was one of Jes Goodwins original concepts for the new Guard post 2nd ed, which is where all the specific guard units come from.

I'm looking at the Gamesworkshop catalog since I'm going to be rebuilding a new 40K imperial guard army. I'm confused as to why there are only two Imperial factions in plastic. I really don't like metal figures and would much prefer having my army in plastic. And, as usual Gamesworkshop prices are ridiculously high. I'm really Curious as to why Gamesworkshop has yet to make any other sets in plastic. What do you all think? Do you like the metal figures? Would you prefer plastic or perhaps resin figures? Do you use proxy figures other than GW product? I'm going to be putting in a sizable chunk of change. I'm going to be married to this army with time and money. I want to explore all options. Thanks!
In the past I would have liked to have seen any of them in plastic, but after 1 full sized Cadian army built, painted and sold and one full sized Vostroyan army built, primed and sold. I don't really care anymore. Though plastic tallarns would make for good cultist figs as well...

I voted valhallans, but like many others, I really like that old godwin sketch. It's exactly what I would want from my Guard; armoured, greatcoat, no bare faces, badass but still somewhat grounded in reality.
With DKOK largely supplanting Steel Legion, I doubt they'll get a plastic release (though I do like them, have two squads for my Armoured Company), and Mordians I feel would be "too generic" for GW to go for, and there's plenty of 19th century models out there suitable for 40k, though not often in plastic.
The modular kit sounds cool though, maybe offer two kits, one with the formal/greatcoat combo mentioned, and another for flak/carapace troopers. The IG's physical troops variation is substantial, moreso than pretty much any other army, and given their ubiquitous role as allies, it'd give some nice diversity to the table. Cthulhu knows no one is buying Catachans

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

I remember when catachan plastics came out, i was like "how does a singlet provide a 5+ save?" I get that they are john rambo jungle warriors, but even open flak jackets would have made them look more believable, like vietnam era marines. It would also be cool to get a variety of lasgun types, the elysian ones are my fav.

I'm for Valhallans or perhaps Vostroyan, either would be a lot different than the current Cadian/Catachan kits. They would also give guard players a chance to be a little more creative with their painting, given the amount of fur and cloaks and heavy clothing worn by those two armies.
Does anyone think that we'd eventually see a completely new Guard regiment designed and fielded by GW?
I'm guessing... no.
I'd agree, probably not. I think we're more likely to see Forgeworld do new regiments at this point, in support of a future Imperial Armour book perhaps.

Steel Legion mostly. Vostroyans secondly. Are the metal Steel Legion models even orderable? There was some weirdness going on when I tried putting them in the shopping cart. As such I ended up going with a Vostroyan squad instead for the time being.

For the next guard kits they need to do what they did for space marines and chaos marines and at least set bitz that allow you to convert said regiments to other ones. I know it might not be super easy but i'm sure it could be done. I'd prefer having a little bit of a similar feeling between each regiment than having super craptastic outdated guardsmen. Then again i don't really play guard anymore so what do i care. So anyway my armies of choice for guard are mostly on death korps of krieg, vostroyans, elysians/harakoni warhawks (high tech fast striking drop troops), cadians and then maybe one or two other guard regiments. That might sound like a lot but there are a lot of different looking guard regiments. Perhaps sort of a post-apocalyptic wasteland raider type guard army would be good. If they can get krieg to look like helghast or if they could do a sort of helghast army (from 'killzone') without breaching a copyright i would do it all the way every day for life. Possibly gas-masks allowed in a multiple plastic set with some options for traitor guard like with the cultist box-set. Then again if you already have cultists you can sell separately why would you need to add that option in a separate guardsmen box-set? I also remember one cool thing in the 5th edition rulebook for 40k and that was one guard regiment with what appears to be a twin-linked lasgun. I dunno if orders will take a hit in the next guard codex but if it does an option for twin-linked lasguns would be super fun.

I get that from the fact that the Forge World HE Cadians look a lot like that picture and were probably based off it. :p Thus making it concept art for the HECs.

Actually, you know what I would dig? A redesign to catachans so they looked more like an actual military force.
I recently re-watched Aliens, and I can't help but feel the Colonial Marines would make good Catachans; they're kind of ragtag, ill-disciplined appearance with relatively light armour would fit the concept well, and they too were modeled after the US military after Vietnam, just actually still based in, you know, reality.
Essentially, they'd have thinner armour than Cadians, more model diversity, with a focus on further individualizing them with paintjobs. Dark Eldar got a pretty substantial redesign in most of their units, why can't the catachans be redeemed?

I'd say all of them since they all have their unique touches, but i tend to lean towards the Tallars (haveing the largest freaking tank battle in the entire history of the Imperium on thier planet and all.). along with the Valhallan and Mordians.
There are of course other regiments in the different Imperial guard codex's that would be fun to see on the battlefields as well, like the Warhawks, Kaledon Hunters, and the Mordant Acid Dogs to mention a few.
