Is anyone interested in a campaign involving all willing dakka members, and how could I go about doing this?

If you want me to get this going, I'll need some ideas on how to make it work..

We recently had a global campaign. I'm interested though.

I'm thinking along the lines of fighting across a star system, with several worlds, somewhere near the edge of the galaxy, where the IOM has a hard time reaching.
I'll need to know which armies are going to be in on this, ofc, so that I can make a fitting storyline and ruleset.

EDIT: Removing sneaky random extra capital letters..

I'm interested, but I can't fathom how a global campaign would work. (Total noob)

For some reason, I'm unable to view those pictures, so I don't know if they're relevant.. :/
Thanks for the link though

The pictures aren't special.

Some contain links to special worldwide campaign forums.

Gotcha -- also, reading through that link helped a lot.

I'm completely interested. I apologize in advance to any group I'm part of -- at least until I start winning games.

I'm intrigued. I'm a total noob about this, but it should be interesting. I guess only battles between Dakka members would count, right?

I've found a map making program, so that's one thing sorted
I'll need to invent a clever way to make this campaign run, not just through number of victories (some armies are more popular than others), but through the value of what the armies have done..
Does anyone know how GW organised the 13th Black Crusade?

for what it's worth, I'm in. I missed my chance to participate in the previous dakka global campaign, so now is my chance.

I suggest looking in the campaign and proposed rule sections of the forum for some inspiration.

This sounds sort of how Mechwarrior campaigns worked. WK would post the campaign missions and venues would run events and submit winners. 40K being slightly more complex with far more factions

I guess, to start getting a feel of how this could pan out, what size campaign should I make this?

1 planet?
2-3 Planets?
5+ Planets?
More than one star system? [That'd be very complicated indeed...]

One system with, say, 6 planets.
Every planet has 2 races fighting eachother.

Or just one planet with all the armies in one epic battle a la Dawn of War Dark Crusade.

Sounds interesting.
If I go for multiple planets, I'll need a way of playing the conquering armies off against eachother, and if I go for one planet (which would be easier) I could implement a resource-and-bonus system.

On the idea of a single planet, I have a map maker program that allows me to build pretty large worlds with hexagonal tiles, similar to planetary empires, and I would be able to place continents, terrain types, structures etc. It also can give each tile a numerical designation, so as to be able to track the progress of the game more efficiently ("Imperial Forces have advanced into sector 11.32 and have reclaimed hive city Agamemnon.").

I think this is a great idea. I am really new to 40k. I only have about 500 points of CSM. I have about 750 in boxes and being painted though. I would only be able to play Necrons because only one friend plays 40k.( Started at the same time).

Aha, necrons vs CSM. That should prove to be very interesting actually. We'll be able to see how Phill's craftsmanship stands up to flying cheese-master Matt Ward
It doesn't matter if you only have a small force, skirmish battles work extremely well in 6th ed

Well im definately in I am considering starting a space wolf force for a escalation campaign so il definately join in this. My Wolf Lord Galgrauch and his company of shadow wolves will definately enjoy smiting the enemies of the all father. Il probably ally with my Astral Drakes space marines as well. I may also use my chaos marines as I need a excuse to get a few games in with my word bearers. For my space wolves il have around 750 points (need to purchase the codex and battle force first)

Just made an example campaign map, to illustrate how we would be able to keep track of the game:

If you took black to be Imperial forces, blue to be Eldar forces, and green to be Ork forces, it it easy to see how this could easily display an ongoing campaign.

So how exactly is this a campaign if the people involved aren't playing each other, no faction-wide leadership decisions are being made, etc? It sounds like the "campaign" is just adding up how many games each side wins against random people, is there something I'm missing here?

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

The part that you're missing is that I haven't yet worked out the mechanics for the campaign. Right now, I'm just seeing who's interested. If nobody wanted to play, there would be no point trying

But you've already said that the games don't have to be against other campaign players (since hardly anyone would be in the same location as another player). So how is that a game? How does it make sense that my IG play a game against a random space marine player at my local store, therefore my faction gets points and progresses in our fight against the orks to claim their map tile? There's no overall strategy unifying the armies, no dramatic conflicts between the players involved, just everyone playing their normal games and adding up which "side" won more often.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.
