My FLGS is starting a slow grow league for WHFB, and I am making a themed Bretonnian force (No peasants! ). This is my first list for 500 points, I would love some C&C!
Hero:
Paladin, BSB - 74
Core:
KoTR (8) - 192
Knights Errant (9) - Standard Bearer, Errantry Banner - 214
Total: 480
Not sure where to put the last 20 points. Also I'm not sure if it's better to go with these two big Knight buses, or try and do smaller buses of 6?
Thanks!

Imperial Guard 61st Regiment, Confederated Systems of Acirema- 4,000 pts
Space Wolves - 3,000 pts

Corrupted Lizardmen - 2500 pts

Well i tried this at a recent escalation league and i have to say two things, neither are good.
1. As bretonnians have to have a BSB and armies have to have a general the only legal Lords and Heroes you can take are a BSB paladin and a lord with "foot" duty (sorry army book is not in front of me), This means you have a 120 pt lord doing not a lot and a bsb, oh and half your points have just dissappeared.
2. As you have to take a unit of KOTR it really doesnt leave you a lot of points for anything else, i advise some Archers and when the league increases in size a bit (i assume this is what is happening in your slow grow league), put your lord on a horse and get some more knights!

May your chest inspire the hopes and dreams of millions.
May your arm girth frighten the elderly, slow moving adults and very small children.
May your gains be plentiful.
Go forth and LIFT.

As has been mentioned, your only legal general choice is a Lord on foot with Virtue of Empathy and a shield, 123 points.
The reason for this is that you MUST take a BSB - which will take a minimum of 72 of your 125 point hero allocation... and not leaving enough for a second hero. You'll want to keep him cheap because you need the points for other stuff; a 2+ armor and Blessing saves should do okay for him at 500 points
The 'must take a unit of KotR' is debatable. However, taking them is a pretty good idea; they do hit pretty hard at this point level. 5 with FC to escort your BSB is a good idea.
Then a unit of either archers or Men@Arms to bunker your general in, and a treb to provide heavy fire support rounds out your list.

The only way you will really make a decent 500pt Bretonnian army is if you kindly ask your opponent if you don't have to take a BSB, because in a list with no peasants, he will be walking around in his own not doing very much. Otherwise take a block of M@A for his to sit with and command.

That's somewhat disheartening. I may ask the TO if we can house rule some of those requirements for Bret. away at low points levels. It's a friendly slow grow league at my LGS, so hopefully they'll be ok with it. Seems like the army is pretty well hamstrung with the current restrictions, though.

I had a similar situation when starting Brets, in my GW and LGC we ommitted the rule for the BSB until we reached the 750 pts levle as then you can field a 'legal' army

Not to be a broken record, but yeah, brets at <750 is pretty rough. My recomendation is to take the BSB Paladin vanilla (maybe a 5 pt enchanted shield) and a smaller block of knights (6 to 8) and a 20 man block of M@A as your mini-tarpit. And just try and make sure the two units are never more than 6in appart. It's not great, but at that point level, it may be your best option.

In the FAQ GW removed the 1+ unit restriction from the KoTR entry but did not remove the comment in the margin which reads "Note that every Bretonnian army must include at least one unit of Knights of the Realm" so it is debatable whether tehir inclusion is mandatory or not, not that it really matters as most people tend to have at least one units of Knights unless going for a complete peasant force
