Looking at the ripper swarms on the GW site. Anyone know how many ripper swarms comes in a package? Please don't say one, it's freakin $14.00 USD.

Pretty sure it's just one base. Not sure why you would want to pay for Rippers, though. A box of termagants/warriors/genestealers all provide Rippers - about enough for a base in each box. They probably go for cheap on ebay too, as people tend to want to get rid of them.

At that point you might as well go for the FW ones.

FW ones look awesome. Most people in my area just put 3 on a base with nice scenery (dead marines and such).

arent those things literally nothing but "I got spare points" type of unit? Every time i see them they just eat themselves or get flattened by Str6+ attacks. Never seen them do anything.

Best use I've seen is deep strike 3 of them with spinefists, in cover, next to a lone Heavy Weapons Team (Devastators or such) and watch your opponent squirm. It's super cheap, durable with a decent cover save, and forces them to react to them without sacrificing too many points.

either the local nid player doesnt know that, or he doesnt see the purpose of it becuase hes always hoofin' them.

Pretty sure they can't deep strike. They might be able to take a pod but they still synapse or they eat themselves. Also a devastator squad would ID them lol

They can Deep Strike if they have the Tunnel Swarm Upgrade.

You have to give them Tunnel Swarm... I forgot to mention that. And sure the Devastator squad would ID them. But that's the point... if they are shooting at a 36 point unit, then are they shooting at your Flyrant, Tervigon, Hive Guard, Doom of Malantai? No, they are wasting their precious shooting on a nothing unit. And statistically, you MAY lose one base to Mindless, but again who cares! Forward Synapse is usually there by turn 3, which is the earliest they can assault anyway, and just order them to assault if they are still alive.

That's 2 whole rounds of shooting that isn't happening from the Devastator unit. That's 8 Shots, 6 Hits, 4-5 wounds on a MC?? All saved with a little ole ripper unit.

I amend my original statement, since I forgot about the points for Tunnel Swarm... you have to drop Spinefists to keep them cheap at 36 or 51 with the shooting.

FW rippers are awesome models. As far as GW models, just buy the battle force box and you'll get three ripper swarms for free, bases included. I put 3 or 4 on a base with the egg-looking things that come on the Genestealer spur and it looks pretty cool.

I just saw the FW ones. They look awesome.

I can't believe GW is selling ONE base of rippers for $14. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!

I hate you GW.

FW bases cost only 9$ per base (£18.00 per 3) and look better.
Glueing the free plastic rippers on Alien bases looks also good enough.

You need to add FW shipping to that, on the other hand.
