I was just poking around the Games Workshop site and I can't seem to find any Chaos Dreadnoughts. Did the new edition get rid of them and replace them with something else?

The Hell Brute is the "new" Chaos Dreadnought. It's the same thing.

The old Chaos Dreadnought was a metal model. It was taken down from the GW site, but I'm not sure when. Hopefully, it will be replaced soon.

In the mean time, Forge World makes excellent Legion Specific Dreadnought, er, Hell Brute models...

My guess is that GW will come out with an upgrade pack for the standard vanilla dreadnought kit. It will have various spiky bits, an alternate front panel with spiky bits, more spiky bits, a couple specific weapon options(covered in spiky bits), and with a bunch of extra random spiky bits.

Made of Finecast and costing $15.

You forgot the spiky bits for the spiky bits part of the kit.

This is my Leman Russ. There are many out there like it, but this one is mine. Without it, I am useless. Without me, it is useless.

You can't tell the difference between which spiky bits are on which spiky bits so its pointless to distinguish them

Beyond them being $20 more expensive not including shipping, they do look interesting. might have to grab one eventually. The DV one is a bit limited in some aspects and I don't expect an updated GW model all that soon...took them how many years to get Space Wolves wolves? Pretty sure everyone had already kit bashed their own by then.

I personally like the Dark vengeance Hell Brute over my heavy ass old metal chaos dreads, or expensive Forgeworld options.

It's very easy to get cheap and separate from the box set, and the multi-melta can very easily be turned into twin Autocannons or lascannons, simply by adding the barrels in the place of the multi-melta barrels. With a little greenstuff to make an organic join, you can also add a Plasma cannon or twin heavy bolters.

i think thats what the Hellbrute is suppose to be, but doesnt he also have some weird rule thats kinda worse than ork's "Dont Press Dat!" rule? i never play against CSM (one of like two races that noone around here plays) so i dunno.
That was the reason my friend thats tryin to get enough of them for allies for necrons gave me his hellbrute to orkify, he mentioned that rule and said he'd never use it cuz it can kill his own dudes.

Dunno call it nostalgia, but I prefer metal. It's got a good 'weight' to it, and doesn't fall over in a stiff breeze, or table bump. I love the old model too, so theres that.

Also off topic but Vineheart01 your avy is wonderfully distracting.

Its also visuals, most CSM players I know (me included) dont like how it looks. Its too fleshy and mutated, which isnt really needed, just look at regular CSM. The forgeworld ones still have the old dreadnought feel and nice themed visuals for warbands.

Okay that makes sense, it just threw me off when I didn't see the Chaos Dreadnoughts available or even listed on the GW site. I do like the models I've seen on the Forge World site that you mentioned, very nice stuff.

I wouldn't bet against that guess.

I don't have a copy of the new Chaos Space Marine Codex, but I assumed the Hellbrute was a different model altogether and had it's own rules?

Why, thank you. I was begining to think noone seriously knew who she was since in almost 2 years noones ever commented on it lol

Anyway derail done.

I dislike both metal and finecast. Finecast is a piece of crap that krumps itself with moderate heat or rough handling, metal is too damn hard to cut/drill/modify in some way shape or form (being an ork, i am mandated to alter my models lol)
And that old CSM dreadnought looks more like it got infested by the Zerg than a demon lol (LIVE FOR THE SWARM!!!)

I like the visuals on that Hellbrute quite a bit, but to my eye a Dreadnought is just so much.....better looking.

I don't mind the visual of a mutated dreadnought, it harkens back to Rogue Trader era and early 2nd edition for me when Chaos Dreads were mutated Imperial Dreads. I didn't like the "Hellbrute" redesign it at first, but it really grew on me. It looks more daemonically possessed.

In the old codex it could kill your own guys but these days it's unlikely as it will only shoot your own men if there are no enemy in range iirc.

“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

Ah, thats what it is. Well his problem since he cant be an indian-giver now that its all cut up, sanded, green-stuffed, etc etc lol. My Deffbrute just needs finishing paintjob touchups and i'll be posting him on here (just havent had the urge to finish him yet, drama at the local gaming table worked me up a bit)

I dont mind the mutated look either if its done right or costumizable. Its just the fact that all the skin/flesh coming trough the armour reminds me too much of nurgle. Not really fitting for my Tzeentchians.

You don't have to use the hellbrute model, to have a chaos dreadnought. A hellbrute, is just the name for the dreadnought on the chaos side. So you can still use old chaos dreadnought's with hellbrute rules and configurations.

And, if you don't like the Hellbrute model (which I can understand, especially since, at the moment, there's no options to customise them), nothing stopping you buying an imperial dread and converting it. After all, you've GOT to have some spikey bitz left over if you're a CSM player!

Ok heres whats great about living in Australia.

Our Dreadnoughts cost us a whopping $74AUD. (So 50GBP, 58EUR, 75USD).

A Forgeworld Dreadnought costs us 27GBP (body) + 16GBP (2 arms) = 43GBP. Tack on 15% for shipping, 7GBP rounding up. For a grand total of 50GBP or $74AUD.

We can buy any FW dready for the same price as a standard GW dread.

holy crap 74? Thats even more than i spend on a battlewagon (66USD). And i thought it was expensive enough! (The sole reason i have no FW stuff is because i dont intend to play apoc and despite being damn awesome models theyre too expensive to casually get)

They took away the Chaos Dreds? Noooooo!

I'm rather fond of my Helbrute, it clicked together really nicely and it looks pretty imposing, it would be nice if they brought out more variations for it in the future though.

Might have to repaint mine, I really botched it up!

Nah, its the salesmarker for the vengeance box. You must get a vengeance to get a hellbrute. AoBR had Ork Deffkoptas that didnt cost 35USD a model and didnt look like utter crap (and cheap boyz). This one has Hellbrutes lol.

I doubt they'll ever release a variant solo hellbrute. So annoying when they have rules that require a decent amount of converting to be able to field and there isnt an official model for it (Looted Wagons being an exception, theyre suppose to be that way)
