Apologies. I've been sinking all my spare time into my Son and trying desperately to finish off another project (HeroQuest Refresh).
Here is the first big update. I've been a little delayed due to my other project (HeroQuest refresh) and spending time with my family (my boy is growing fast and I don't get to see him much during the day!). Got a long weekend coming up (4 days!) and hope to sink some serious time into both projects.
I've pretty much got all the stuff needed. It just needs assembly, painting and testing. Not much at all! :-P
Very Important! Scored these 3rd Edition Rules and Mission Book from eBay (all the way from the
UK!). They occasionally appear but you have to be quick! These books were listed for about 3 min before I snatched them up. :-D
Also scored some original 1st edition books as well. Would like to get hold of 2nd edition, but they seem to be a little elusive. Anyone seen/got them?
So, I've decided that Blood Angels are not going to feature in my version. As I'm also putting together a Deathwing Army for
WH40K, so Dark Angels are the go! Scored 2 squads from the Dark Vengence box set as there are stacks being flogged off on eBay for cheap (~$20). A couple of 'bitz' to mod up a heavy flamer, Sgt with Thunder Hammer and Storm Shield, lightning claws and we're good to go! Want to create the exact units in the 3rd edition. I've also wanted to include a secondary group for multiplay and bigger missions. Always loved Imperial Fists and wanted to paint up some of them as a bit of a challenge. Using
AOBR units from eBay (even cheaper than
DV!) and some bitz, I've got all I need for a whole additional kill-team. :-D
I've thought about what to use for the "dead terminator" and the "relic" that 3rd edition uses in their campaigns. I've decided to go with a Champion that's been munched defending an teleporter... and a Chapter Relic (some sort of
DA sword).. Still need to work on the 'fluff'...
I also can't decide on what to use as a C.A.T... any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. :-)
'NIDS! Scored a bunch of 'old school' 'Stealers from, you guessed, eBay! :-P
I like the idea that they are the old style as they would have been lurking on the Hulk for a while. The Broodlord is the only 'evolved' one...
These'll be done up in the original colours. The Broodlord was one of the 'full priced' purchases.
So, I've also decided to include the options of Captains as well. I've grabbed some of the Fine Cast models. Belial for
DAs and Lysander for IFs.
Each team also has a Librarian in Termy armor.
These are more of the 'full prices' purchases and my first foray into Fine Cast Resin models. Eek!
Bases. The fine chaps at Back-2-Base-ix have a great selection of resin bases. I've got a mixture of their Industrial and Checkerplate ones. Keeping 40mm ones for the Terminators so they are "compliant" with
WH40K.
What else does the game need? TOKENS! Not cardboard things that will get all dog-eared after a while, but shiny, shiny acrylic!!!
I found all I needed (and probably some not are not) over at www.litko.net.
Grabbed blip markers, overwatch, flame, lock, reload, jam and power field tokens. Also grabbed a bunch of arrow ones for deployment zones and 'stealer entry points, but might not use them.. working on another alternative...
What led me to www.litko.net, initially, was the Space Corridor section. I had been looking at a few other ways of creating the modules. One was creating each piece from resin tiles (
sh!t-tons of work!) and possibly cutting my own from
MDF or somthing... I wanted somthing that was going to last and be tough but not take too long to put together. It also has to be lightweight. These are perfrect! They have a stack of combinations and you can easily create every piece (even for the Campaign book and various custom missions) needed. I have also thought that it will allow me to increase the detail with resin tiles, walls etc in the future if I so wish. I used a spreadsheet I found to put together the list of pieces I would need. I'll try and upload it for reference.
These are the tiles that Litko provide in PDF format. I've printed them out on 300 weight cardboard. Should look neat!
Well, that's about all at the moment. I'm really looking forward to any feedback/ideas as well as answering any questions. I'll be trying to update weekly, at least. If I don't get any stuff done for Space Hulk, my HeroQuest Refresh would have been the reason. :-P
Take it easy.
