Subject: Help me generate my wedding playlist (or other wedding tips)!
Help me Dakka, you're my only hope! Got 2 1/2 months tile the big day and I need playlist suggestions for the reception. All of our family will be there and there will be no alcohol due to stupid venue rules, so the music needs to be REALLY good.
I need all those generic or dancy songs people like on here. The document is free to edit. First column is title, second is artist, third is time (if you feel like adding it). Trying to get a healthy mix of 1/3 classic dance songs, 1/3 modern dance songs that aren't horribly over-sexualized (a little is certainly fine), and 1/3 easy-to-listen-to songs like Bon Jovi or Journey for while people are eating.
Any help you can offer would be awesome! Likewise, any general wedding advice is more than acceptable as well. Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Apparently Google Docs does not work the same anymore. Here's the list i have:
Spoiler:
Feel this moment Pitbull 03:49 03:49 Electric Slide Marcia Griffiths Cupid Shuffle Cupid Just Dance Lady Gaga You Shook Me All Night Long AC/DC YMCA Village People Love Shack B-52's Party Rock Anthem LMFAO Featuring Lauren Bennett & GoonRock Pour Some Sugar On Me Def Leppard Baby Got Back Sir Mix-A-Lot Poker Face Lady Gaga Dynamite Taio Cruz Dancing Queen ABBA Ice Ice Baby Vanilla Ice Don't Stop The Music Rihanna Bad Romance Lady Gaga On The Floor Jennifer Lopez Featuring Pitbull Play That Funky Music Wild Cherry Fly Me to the Moon Frank Sinatra Gangnam Style Psy I Will Survive Gloria Gaynor Ring Of Fire Johnny Cash Take On Me a-ha
Sweet Home Alabama Lynyrd Skynyrd Friends In Low Places Garth Brooks Livin' On A Prayer Bon Jovi Don't Stop Believin' Journey
That could probably be doubled. Thanks again!

Lessons?
1. The Lady is always right.
2. The honor, is to serve. Serve and protect your family like a tiger. But teach and be wise like a Kung Fu Panda.
3. Laugh!
4. Remember #1.

Depending upon the crowd (and I recall your drama-thread about asking for her father's permission, so probably not) Gogol Bordello's American Wedding would be delicious. A friend of mine tried to get one of my other friends to sing it at his wedding for him, but he didn't have the balls.
I did the playlist for my wedding.
Both my wife and I were teens and became legal adults in the 80s - so naturally, much of the 4 hour playlist was from this time period. However, there was stuff from the 70s and 90s also - because not all of our guests were from our time (some younger, some older).
Just start with the songs you both like and go from there. Before long, you'll have several hours cued up.
I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

Don't play pranks. They don't like pranks such as painting "Help me" on the soles of your shoes and kneeling down at the alter to pray in front of everyone before she comes in...
I beg of you sarge let me lead the charge when the battle lines are drawn
Lemme at least leave a good hoof beat they'll remember loud and long

What I did for mine was get every cd I owned, then got all the music off them which would do.
I split the night up - the music stated at 6pm.
6-7 - golden oldies - for everyone as everyone will still be there.
7-8 - party music - again for everyone
8-9 - party/disco - again for everyone
9-10 - disco/dance - again for everyone
10-11 - Dance - people start clearing out - younger people still drinking
11-12 - Grooms choice. (so yeah - even managed to get slipknot and NIN in...) - by this point - most of the elderly relatives had gone, so the choices got more...me.
My personal favourite part of the evening was my wife's elderly aunt, being on the dance floor at 11 - when it swapped from dance to andrew wk. Seeing an octagenarian headbanging to party hard....

I like the idea of starting with older tracks early, when the older relatives are likely to all be in attendance, and gradually transitioning to newer/edgier stuff later.
Some crowd/family-friendly classics:
Oldies
Second of Fraz’ recommendation, Chuck Berry: You Never Can Tell
The Big Bopper: That’s What I Like
The Beatles: I Saw Her Standing There
The Beatles: She Loves You (Yeah, Yeah, Yeah)
The Beatles: Roll Over Beethoven
The Beatles: cover of Twist & Shout
Beatles: Hey Bulldog
Wilson Pickett: Land of 1000 Dances
Country oldies
Johnny Cash & June Carter: Jackson
Johnny Cash & June Carter: Help Me Make it Through the Night (Kristofferson cover)
Disco:
Blondie: Rapture
The O’Jays: Love Train
Sister Sledge: He’s the Greatest Dancer
Chic: Everybody Dance
Evelyn “Champagne” King: Shame-
The Macarena is cheesy, but it’s also a classic group dance song that anyone can do (anyone who remembers it, anyway)
Slow dance
Nick Cave: Into My Arms (would have been the bride & groom’s first dance at my wedding, if I had been the bride and thus it been my choice. )
Boys II Men: End of the Road
Stevie Wonder: I Believe
Beatles: And I Love Her

This was the B&G first dance at the wedding and basically our song. Although there was a bit of a side joke since she doesn't believe in an interventionist god and I do.

Somehow I've always thought that The Time Warp would be a good song for Cann.
Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.
Excerpt from "Seeress of Kell", Book Five of The Malloreon series by David Eddings.
"You need not fear us, unless you are a dark heart, a vile one who preys on the innocent; I promise, you can’t hide forever in the empty darkness, for we will hunt you down like the animals you are, and pull you into the very bowels of hell." Iron - Within Temptation

Groove is in the heart by deee lite is an essential wedding dance song. When i was working in a wedding reception place it seemed to me to bring the biggest flood of people onto the dance floor.
Manchu - "But so what? The Bible also says the flood destroyed the world. You only need an allegorical boat to tackle an allegorical flood."
Shespits "Anything i see with YOLO has half naked eleventeen year olds Girls. And of course booze and drugs and more half naked elventeen yearolds Girls. O how i wish to YOLO again!"

I'm getting married in 2 months or so and me and my fiance included a bit in the invitation where people can make a 10 song playlist of their favorites. In a month or so we'll compile them and stick it on random, the feedback has been really positive so far. Although this comes with it's risks at least we'll know at least one person likes the song that's playing, and it gets people involved. I know it's a bit late for the OP to do this, I just think it's a pretty neat idea and worth spreading.
