Which would be the best to play. This isn't my first army. But I would really like to start a space marine army. That isn't going to be over priced like Grey Knights or Dark Angels. I really want to paint them a primary color, like Imperial Fists, or Ultramarines, or Blood Angels.

I already play orks and tau. So which army is going to be a fresh start and more versatile for me. I already have a list idea for each. I just need that push in the right direction. I also already have

10 man tac squad
Terminator squad.
Devastator squad
2 rhinos
venerable dread.

Well........just sit down with both codexes and look at what you like and dont like in both and weigh your options. Keep in mind you can get storm ravens for regular SM now.

Or start both. F*** it.

I don't have the story part of the SM codex only the army point stuff.
But I do really like the back story to the Blood Angels and I think I would enjoy playing them.

I just don't want to have this other stuff go to waste you know?

Also when you stay start both, how would you recommend that.

A space marines a space marine, paint them as a successor chapter or something and then you have both.

Well if you want a fast army that is focused around assault then go Blood Angels, they have some really cool dreadnaught/blender variants. Both armies have their strengths and weaknesses and you should do fine picking either.

You can make use of all the stuff you have so far as well.

If you really want, you could use allies and actually play both armies. Use both paint schemes (red and blue).

Take your favorite units from both books. I would make a nasty, shooty Vanilla Marine army - Thunderfire Cannons, Storm Talons, Sternguard, etc...and back them up with some Death Company for counter-assault.

Blood Angels even get access to Divination, which really helps Vanilla Marines.

Personally, I would suggest a selfmade Successor Chapter, just because you can get creative this way. If you like making stuff up, that's the way to go.

Other than that - Ultras and BA are both good choices, fluffwise as well as in terms of visual designs. The former catch a lot of unwarranted flak from the community (imho), and I've recently changed my opinion about the latter thanks to a short story in a White Dwarf that made them look more tragic (in a badass way) than boringly invincible (a common issue, at least to me, with the portrayal of Marines in many but fortunately not all media). Imperial Fists are a fine option as well. In a way, you already can't do wrong with the selection you have so far. Then again, I understand how it must be hard to pick between the choices that remain.

Good luck!

Thanks. It's not so hard to pick it's just wondering which will best suit me and which will use the things I have after what is said here I think I will try my luck with imperial fists. And then just start a blood angels army later.

I'd go with Vanilla Marines, first off. I think you have a better assurance of continued Codex relevance, while some of the off-brand marines can get lost in the shuffle. That being said, as Siphen mentioned, you can always ally in some Blood Angels.

Between Imperial Fists and Ultramarines, I would decide this way: paint an Imperial Fists test model, and an Ultramarines test model, and then decide based on that. I wanted to do an Imperial Fists army, but found yellow to be way too hard to do.

Good luck, and hope that helps!

I'd go Vanilla and Imperial Fists (even though I hate painting yellow).

If you're doing Imperial Fists, I recommend you begin with Daemonic Yellow ArmyPainter.

I myself am doing 3000 points of Horus Heresy Imperial Fists, and I find myself so grateful for Army Painter; it really has made the process much easier, and the results look great.

What would you suggest is a good base list for Space marines? And some other things I should buy?

With Space Marines, you're going to want a good few Tactical squads, then decide on how you want your army to run. But you can never go wrong when you build your army around a solid base of a few Tactical squads.

I am considering two tac squads in rhinos and a squad of scouts with Telion. Then I am going to back that up with a tank hunting predator.

True. 2-3 Tac Squads is a nice start (coming from a person who plays a full scout list all the time). They are versatile and and can be equipped to handle several kinds of threats. Combat squadding makes them even more fun also. I myself love predator tanks as my heavy support choices when I'm not running a scout only list.

Well I really want to avoid assault terminators at this point level. In favor for maybe speeders with flamers to take out squishy assault units.

I'll just contribute that I am really, really happy with my Flesh Tearer (Blood Angel successor) army.

It's fast, it's fun, and it's got lots of cool options. Death Company, Furioso Dreadnoughts, fast Razorbacks, assault marines as troops, etc. And some really cool special characters.

I'm not saying vanilla marines are bad by any means. Just saying that I am happy with my decision to go BA.
