Hey fellas, Im trying to come up with Numbers and names for my imperial guard infantry, storm trooper, tank, artillery and engineer: squads, and companies, regiments etc.
im looking for cool numbers or numbers with cool nicknames , I.E. Fighting first! or ironic names or funny names I.E. Lucky 13th!
if you have any good names or numbers for the stuff i said ill be happy to take your ideas! cool pics, insignia, and squad trench art that could "represent " the squad or company that would be great to ! ( I.E. a bulldog pic stuff like that!) thanks again!
Tony A.
P.S. they are all Death Korps of Krieg, so if you can relate it to that it would be great.

DkoK don't really go with "cool names", individual troopers don't even have a name, they just have an ID number to identify them
They'd probably have a very straightfoward and unimaginative way of numbering their units

With DKoK that'd be hard.
I let other people name my things for me (see signature ), but I paint a number on every guardsmen his left shoulder, veteran badge on the right shoulder of veterans, and every vehicle has a number too, and kill markings.

The only funny thing I have in my army is the 2/2 reconnaisence regiment.
The name is a result of an unusual series of events and administrative infighting that resulted in survivors from the 2nd recon combining together with survivors of the 2nd recon to make a new mixed unit - the 2/2 recon. The designation has stuck ever since.
It is said that someone once suggested combining the unit into just the 2nd recon, but that they were summarily executed for administrative heresy.

Well...names...um....
DKoK you said? Well, that's a bit difficult. The DKoK don't really have a sense of humor....or a sense of irony....so your best bet is to just use normal military like designations for things, since from the DKoK perspective that's all they would ever use for themselves.
Now, if you want to make names that maybe have been given to them by other units (say another regiment is fighting besides them and makes up nickmames for the different teams) you could have a field-day with all the death, grey, and other assorted puns....

a question along the lines of DKOK fluff ... would they use a penal battalion attached to one of their siege regiments? I know they don't like help, especially from ab humans but i wasn't sure about a penal battalion... II dont see anything about conscripts either, even though i dont like the fluff behind conscripts...
the problem is that i have about 150- 200 troopers with great coats and gas masks but they are not DKOK models so i was going to included them as a penal legion attached to the DKOK siege army... not sure yet though...
By the way ive done a little research, ive decided so far
88th siege army -> 11th assualt Korps -> 101st siege regiment-> 1st infantry comapany ( still havent completely decided on this one) and also the 66th tank regiment...
they were in the imperial Armour ( siege of Vraks) books and match up so far... the company names are harder to find and 1st infantry company is what im going with if i dont find one in the fluff given in imperial Armour. ( the army/ unit numbers ive chosen survived Vraks in the Fluff, i checked it haha )
thanks for reading and i greatly appreciate your comments!

Anything DKoK is more likely to have a numerical designation rather than a name.
The regular troopers don't have names. Officers do AFAIK.

Plenty of room to write 1-2 numbers. All my painted squads have their own marking. I simply ask someone to give me a random number from 1 to 99 and paint it on a shoulder pad.
93th Grenadier squad for example, and 32nd Engineer.
Normal guardsmen get a platoon number on the left pad and a squad number on the right (right now, 1 and 14, so first squad of the 14th platoon)
If you want to give a ''name'' to your guardsmen, so can always do ''Regimental number'' ---> ''Company number'' ---> ''Platoon number, if applicable'' ---> ''Squad number'' ---> ''Individual number inside the squad''
So 5-6-93-1 for a Grenadier Watchmaster from the (Tho I use 56 instead of 5-6, probably shouldn't tho ) or 5-6-14-1-3 for the 3rd member of the first squad of the 14th platoon. of guardsman.

You're going to need a double force organization chart to bring more than 6 Veteran Squads. Which means another CCS. Or you could do 5 Veteran Squads, and 5 Platoon Infantry Squads in Chimeras
As for a cool name...
How about your Company Commander? He could be a stone cold, tactically brilliant soldier. Numerous victories were won by his command, though losses under him numbered in the millions. Feared equally by his foe and subordinates, he is never afraid to spend the life of a Guardsman if it means furthering the goals of the Imperium.
For this reason he tends to maintain a wide berth from his men while off-duty. When they speak of him, they speak only in whispers; whispers of rumor and myth.
One tale in particular; his famous evacuation of Hive Algolis. Some say heroically, 3.5 million guardsmen, 35 full regiments, as well as 22 Armored companies, and 3 Superheavy Companies were lost. The company commander of the 105th, your company commander, had every man and woman under his command hold their line against a literally unstoppable Xeno onslaught, numbering in the billions, while the citizens of the hive escaped offworld. He was aboard the last escape-shuttle, which jumped into the warp just as the last flicker of human life was smothered into nothingness on Algolis.
As far as mankind is concerned, your company commander has no name. He does not give one, for he will not be remembered for his name. He will be remembered for his service; for his deeds. To his men, to his enemies, to his beloved Imperium, he is only "The Captain".
Cheers!

Are you looking for USMC info to base your IG on?
Generally they build platoons and companies in threes. Three squads make up a rifle platoon. Three rifle platoons with the added weapons platoon make a company. Generally the weapons platoon could be based off of a Heavy Bolter or Auto Cannon squad, a Mortar squad, a Missile Lchr squad. You might be able to double those out for the HB's and ML's and still have it fit.
USMC Infantry Regiments are known by a number followed by "Marines" i.e. the Third Regiment is known as "Third Marines". Each regiment is composed of 2-3 Battalions. They are likewise numbered, but are simply known by the combination of their battalion number and the regimental number. For example, the third battalion of the third regiment is known as 3/3.
Companies are designated alphabetically. Each battalion has four combat companies (three rifle, one weapon). The weapons company has at various times been given a letter or simply known as "Weapons" company. 1st Battalion is composed of Alpha, Bravo, Charlie Co's, with Wpns taking up the Delta slot. 2nd Battalion is composed of Echo, Foxtrot, Golf Co's with Wpns taking up the Hotel slot. 3rd Battalion is composed of India, Kilo, Lima Co's with Wpns taking up the Mike slot.
Those names as well have changed over the years, B used to be Baker company for example. As far as I know they've never used "J" for a Co designator. Weapons companies would be comprised of heavier weapon squads, lascannons for example, Perhaps more mobile assets as well, sentinals and what not. They're attached out to the Rifle Co's as needed.
If you're looking to capture a bit of USMC feel for your unit "name". Something along the line of Kilo Co, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines would suit the fluff so to speak.

Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?
|
"The big dead 1" as opposed to the big red one from WWII. It could be the first armored Calvary devision, and the name doesn't have to be one that they came up with. Could just as easily be the name that stuck when another guard regiment fought alongside them, replaced them or were replaced by them.
Cadian soldier1: well we're finally getting off this rock.
Cadian soldier 2: yeah, can't say I'll miss it. Who get to come in and I instead o us?
Cadian soldier 1: the rebuilt dkok 1st armored.
Cadian soldier 2: oh the soon to be big dead 1.
