This is the contemptor i built up for my World Eaters list.
100% honestly, I am very dissapointed in him and consider him a failure. Base came out great though. I guess thats something (and i am not fishing for compliments, i seriously consider this model a failure)
I am not a good painter, and am lazy. I hate painting but at least hoped for better from myself for this guy.
Comments and criticism welcome. If you hate it, tell me. If its not a complete failure (like i see it), tell me too

The base did come out great. When working with mostly metallic/robotic models (do mostly fantasy) I <3 my rust wash. Relying more on base colors and washes is a great way to paint lazily and still make it come out great. When I paint like that I paint everything in simple solid colors and then have a weathering wash (brown/red) in a few layers to add the depth I need, then go back and paint my highlights (like eyes and shiny bits).
I think the reason the model came out the way it did is because it looks like the base cote is showing through. Maybe use a white base cote or thicker paint?

Edge highlight and then a full model wash of Nuln Oil would probably help out.

I agree with this. Grab a thick brush and give the whole model a heavy wash of Nuln Oil. If it comes out too dark, simply go over all the main sections again in the same colour you painted them but leave a darker line around the edges of each section. I'm not sure whether you've intentionally tried to weather the model or if the paint is just blotchy but I suggest thinning your paints more and doing a few layers of the same colour to get a consistent look, especially on the pinkish panels.
Don't despair though, painting is all about practice and having a go. Your model still looks better than one plunked on the table with no paint at all! And you're right, the base looks good.

I'm not going to lie to you, I can see where you're coming from. However, I wouldn't dismiss it as a complete failure either.
First off, how do you paint red? It's a nice and solid colour but I'm suspecting it's on a bit thick. I'd suggest thinning down your paints a little, and don't paint red directly on top of the undercoat: Do thin coat of dark reddish brown first.
I'd second the wash suggestion. Black might be a bit too severe, but try applying some Agrax Earthshade to the joints and around rivets and the like, just to get a bit more contrast.
Finally, painting the entire weapon in one shade of metal makes it look a little toy-like in my eyes. Try picking out some of the working parts (chainsaw bayonet, barrels) with steel, and then giving the entire weapon a black or dark brown wash.
Don't let it bring you down though. It's by making mistakes you learn things, after all. I know it sucks when you make those mistakes on an expensive model but it's just toy soldiers after all.
Washes!

Thanks for the comments guys. I'll try some highlighting, and picking out the details on the heavy bolter.
I suspect the paint is blotchy because I applied too thick of a wash of badab black (still have a pot of it).
The original basecoat was Tamiya Bright Red, and it really didnt like sticking to the Resin and it didnt like taking paint either. So i had to do several layers and i think i over did it in that case. I guess i should have picked a different model to test it out as a primer.
On a Fluffy Sidenote, I want to name this guy. I am thinking "Galenos" (the ancient greek name meaning "calm") i hope it sounds Gladitorial, since i want all my squad leaders and significant members to have names sounds gladitorial.

Have you worked with resin before, don't mean to sound condescending but are you aware you have to clean it as it'll come with a layer of the releasing agent still on the model that they use to take it out of the mold.
Also did you use a good primer before applying the red?

This was my first resin model.
and the red was what i used as primer. It was a Tamiya spraypaint.

Did you follow FW guides for preparing models?
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/R/resintips.pdf
Do you have a link for the red? As spraypaint doesn't always mean it's a primer.

If you plan on doing more red, find a Krylon or Rustoleum Camouflage Brown and use that as your primer. Layer over that a layer of red from the GW Base line. Then, on top of that, go with your standard red. The brown isn't as stark as black and the Base Red will give you a nice solid basecoat to work from.

Just from what you said about the paint not sticking to the model it sounds like the releasing agent is doing that.
I'm not that knowledgeable about paint but to me that looks like a lacquer that you would use over a base like a glaze, would need someone more knowledgeable about paint to tell you.

When I was a kid, I once brought some Tamiya spray paint I though I could use as a primer, which was absolutely not the case and it ruined a good bunch of my models. The red one you have there looks very similar from what I can recall, so my money's on that being the culprit.
When you spray the model, I'd stick with using just a simple dark undercoat you're 100% certain actually is an undercoat. I'd recommend black, dark brown, or perhaps dark grey. Then paint the basecoat colour on top of that. Spraypainting the model with the model you want it to have might seem like a good idea at the time, but I've rarely seen a result where I can say the time saved is worth the drop in quality.

I'm not going to use the tamiya anymore, since most people i ahve spoken to (and on here) seem to think that's the culprit. It also really hated taking paint. SO im ditching it and am going to use my regular black Primer.
Thank you everyone for the comments and help
