Guard Heavy Weapon Crewman

So i have a decent sized Imperial Guard army with plenty of LRBTs and Chimeras. I am looking to expand on it a little bit, I'm debating picking up more tanks or painting up an allied detachment. I really like the fluff of the 3rd War for Armageddon but I'm not sure Templars are worth it any more given the codex is...quite ancient. What are some other Allies that people are taking with Imperial Guard, any help is welcome and i am not above the odd alliance. If it helps, my local meta is running a lot of Marine armies, both Chaos and Wolves if that helps at all with the decision process.

If you're willing to be soulless with your fluff to win, then go big or go home. Plus, some lootas or a dakkajet probably wouldn't hurt your guard army.

Ahahaha thats so cruel, any other ideas? I might model a Dakka Jet as something Guard and just use its rules.

Why not do allies AND tanks? Allied armored battlegroup, HQ Leman Russ, 2x troops Leman Russes (and squadrons!), then add a Vulture and Avenger because once you have tanks you need flying tanks.

DA for cheap Librarians or Space wolves with Rune Priests are always popular, but I vote with Peregrine, have a look at the FW alternate guard lists if you/your gaming group is cool with it.

What? It's just basic, indisputable math:
More tanks >>>>>>>>> less tanks.
Why settle for the limitations of only having tanks in your main detachment when you can have tanks in your main detachment AND your allies?

I have a feeling they might not like me having more than i already have in terms of fieldable tanks. I might see if they would let it fly lol. I have thought about it though...trust me there haha

You know full well I was referring to your FW spamming.
Which Russes you take is more important than how many you take. The OP didn't even give us a typical list...it's hard to know what needs expanding if we don't know what you have.

Of course. But again, simple math:
Lots of tanks of the right types >>>>> lots of tanks of random types >>>>> few tanks of the right types >>>>> few tanks of random types.
Conclusion: take lots of tanks, but pick the right ones.
The OP didn't even give us a typical list...it's hard to know what needs expanding if we don't know what you have.
Exactly, the OP didn't give a specific list. So all we can go by is their statement that they have lots of tanks and are considering adding more tanks, which means the obvious conclusion is using allies to add more tanks.

I usually take the bare bones for an IG list
Lord Commissar 70pts
Vet squad 70
Vet squad 70
2 LRBT Sqn 300
1 LRBT 150
Pasquisher with Lascannon 220
Aegis Defense Line w/ quadgun 100
Then drop a few odds and ends here to make up the last 20 points
Mind you this is a 1k game because we play alot of doubles games. When i bump it up to 1500 i usually take another Vet squad or two and mount everyone in a Chimera with Plasmaspam.

Yeah, don't even bother with these. You aren't getting anything out of two naked vet squads, so just take an ABG as your primary detachment and have an all-tank army like you obviously want.

I agree. If you're dying to spam tanks, why bother with a non-tank list?
It's like choosing Tau to spam 3+ saves over Space Marines.

I think people misunderstand, i enjoy running LRBTs but i by no means want to run a full tank army. I have 6 LRBTs in my possession, but i don't want to run that many. Hence why i want to take an allied detachment.

Then why are you taking minimal troops + HQ to fit in as many Leman Russes as possible? The only way that list makes even the slightest amount of sense is if the first and only goal is to get as many tanks on the table as possible. The infantry aren't contributing anything, so you could cut them out entirely and have a much better list.
If you want advice on anything besides "take an ABG list instead" you need to provide some examples of lists you like that actually use infantry so we have some idea of what you like besides tanks.

Okay, ill drop the list i started, and became very fond of. Sorry for the difficulties, relatively new to Dakka, was a lurker for a year prior to recently.
HQ;
CCS: Vox, 3 PG, Chimera. 155
Troop
Vet Squad, 3 PG, Chimera. 170
Vet Squad, 3 PG, Chimera. 170
Infantry Platoon, 3 Vox Casters, 2 Auto Cannons. 165
Heavy Support
LRBT 150
LRBT 150
Total comes to 960
This leaves roughly 40 points to play with as i have not yet taken the points for the Heavy Bolter Sponsons i used to take and placed them elsewhere.

There's nothing wrong with playing a given list if that's what you want. It's just you seem to have contradictory goals: you say you don't want to play nothing but tanks and want to add infantry (especially in your allies), but the only list you post is one where the infantry do nothing but take up points. It might be a good list but it doesn't help us understand your goals and what suggestions you might enjoy in terms of infantry.

Ill clear the slate haha.
I like balance, tactics, strategy. Unit synergy is my favorite thing. Im looking for a way to balance or enhance the list i just posted. Work off that only if that helps at all. That list is what i have the MOST experience with. My normal strategy is to hold back a little and soften things up with the AC squads and the LRBTs. Then i move in with the Vets and CCS.

I mean, there's nothing wrong with playing a list you enjoy, but Dakka is all about critiquing to perfection. And telling people everything they do is wrong.
Love your list, play it. Want to improve your list? Heed our criticism. At the end of the day, its always your call.
However, on to criticism.
LRBT's are remarkably mediocre; their niche that they are better than other tanks in is limited to Marines. If you want to focus on anti- meq, take LRBT's. If you want more versatile tanks, look at some of the other variants.
Secondly, your platoon blob only needs one vox caster to receive orders from the CCS. Always blob them; order efficiency is pretty nice.
Use your spare points to give your PCS a lascannon, and then use the rest to upgrade your LRBT's to a different variant. At 1000 points, you want some Anti AV-14. At this point, you have none.
Best of luck!

At least i got one thing right, the majority of the players at my gaming place are MEQ players so the 2 LRBTs are staying. Now, as for AV14 killers, what would you recommend. I can handle criticism so please, lay it on this list haha. Any additions are welcome, definitely down for upping to 1500 points.
