I have a question about Saint Celestine's resurrection. I played against the Sisters the other day and got SLAUGHTERED by that lovely lady. I killed her outright on a charge, but she got back up with three wounds and killed me dead.
My questions is this: does her resurrection ability work like the Necrons? Some of my boys were standing on top of where she died, and by the necron rules, they can't get up if there is a model within 1" of where they lay.

Should she have been able to get back up, or did I make a fatal mistake in missing that little bit?

If I'm not mistaken about her Miraculous Intervention rule, it's pretty cut-and-dried in this situation: she pops up just outside 1" of an enemy model standing near where she died. You cannot block her resurrection by stomping on her corpse.

Check the WD DEX. Mover her the minimum distance necessary to place her on the table.

the best way to stop her is to tie her down with a 2+ save unit that she can't hurt. Alive but tied up is better than dead and coming back next turn.

You can never stop Saint Celestine. She's amazing. Always has a chance to get back up at the beginning of her turn. Regardless of the situation.

Gets up and can move, shoot and assault as normal the turn she gets back up. Brutal.

She's a living saint, not a mind lost in a tech body.

She's also the only reason why the Sisters have a chance in any given battle

Wait. Am I missing something here? Reanimation Protocols doesn't say that, It says you have to move your unit 1'' away from an enemy model. That's it.

That's just wrong. Although there's a winky there, so it was mostly a joke. Sisters are in a pretty decent place right now competitively.

Also, re: 2+ save, keep in mind that you not only have to keep her tied up with a 2+ save unit, but also have to keep powerfists away from her as well. One PF and she gets ghetto Hit and Run (i.e. she dies and then comes back next turn outside of combat). Also, I run her with Seraphim a lot in order to give her Hit and Run at I7.

@ascended_mike you have to place all your necron models that got reanimated at least 1" from your enemy and within coherency with models that didn't return by Reanimation Protocols. If you can't do it, the model is removed.

Yeah, with Necrons, you can block off the area so they can't come back (popular option with D-lords and other characters). With Celestine, there's really only two ways to get rid of her: Zogwort and a DS Mishap where she isn't the model placed on the board to mark the unit. Neither is very likely in common play.

So what you're saying is that I either have to send her into the warp via shokk attack gun or turn her into a friggin squig, right? and more

Oh well. Thanks for the help, everyone.

Shokk attack doesn't do it. Just the squig.

The SAG will remove models from play for the rest of the game on a double six. No saves, no resurrection. Bop! Buh bye!

Eh, doesn't seem like there's any point ever attacking her.

I remember a game Sister vs Sisters where our two Saint Celestines killed each other simultaneously, resurrected, did the same thing again, before realising the futility of it all and went elsewhere.

There's a 50% chance she doesn't get back up. It is well worth attacking her.

Isn't it a Ld test?

Thawn gets back up on a 4+, I thought Celestine took a Ld test. Which is way over 50% chance.

Love the Living St.

Its the best when you send her flying down the battle field and ur opponent wastes half of his shots trying to kill her.

Or sticking her in a unit of Guard and bogging down a DE hound pack. Sure the DE won ... after Turn 4 of combat.

Celestine is great but fearless hurt her in one of my games. She was a lone survivor from a group of Seraphim so she lost hit and run. A dreadnaught assaulted her and since being fearless she had to stay in combat throwing one grenade a turn. Tied her up for the whole game at that point.

Celestine is great and probably a bit too cheap for what she does, but the other two unique HQs do give her a serious run for the money. A resurrecting CC model (who is far below the real CC powerhouses in effectiveness and still only T3) or two sneaky priests that buff their units or even the entire army?

Besides, now that her first death doesn't cripple the whole army (you lost a chunk of Faith points for it in the WH codex) she's actually worth fielding.

I'm reasonably sure that some abilities, such as Lukas the Trickster's, can do away with Celestine.

It can't.

Q: Can Saint Celestine use her Miraculous Intervention special rule against attacks that remove models from play? (White Dwarf, August 2011, Page 103)
A: Yes.

She can use MI whenever she is RFP.

The difference is that Celestine is probably the best Warlord in the game right now. Just off of the fact that if you go second you have an almost guaranteed contested objective and your opponent doesn't get slay the warlord.
