My friends and I have a gaming club, we all run different games, but the one game we all settle on is 40k.

Recently, my brother (14) has started to show interest in our game.
He really likes tau and eldar, but idk what to tell him.
I only know about dark eldar, the IOM and chaos.

Basically he wants to run a quick, stealth army.

I said play tau.

Opinions?

No.

Do not get your siblings (or other family) into the game.

It has never worked well for anyone in my club (they always end up playing cheats or rage-flippers).

I could never have got my brother into gaming. We were just so different - he liked his competitive sports and was a bad loser.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

Thats not the attitude. His brother might be different. Sucks you had a bad experience but try not to put others off too much. Maybe the OP just needs to be cautious about it.

Both Eldar and Dark Eldar cant be quick and I guess stealthy. But I think theyre quite hard to learn. Dont quote me on that, just what ive heard.

Eldar heavy with Pathfinders/Rangers, Striking Scorpions, and Warp Spiders sounds about right.

"Stealthy" is a tough role to fill in 40k, since you can't really hide per se; your opponent can always see your guys. So I guess the closest thing would be an army which is hard to hit./damage and/or can maneuver quickly to make it hard to hit them back.

Eldar (optionally with Dark Eldar allies) can fill the "sneaking through cover and hard to hit" concept by using the Harliestar. A unit of Harlequins moving through terrain so they get 2+ cover thanks to the Shadowseer, and with a Farseer casting Fortune on them to let them re-roll their saves.

Dark Eldar can be good for this concept; a mechanized list can allow you to shoot a lot, avoid being engaged in HtH, and Night Shields often allow you to avoid being shot back by the high-volume firepower which is best at knocking them down.

A Grey Knight list isn't stealthy, but you can build an insanely quick/maneuverable one by taking Troops in Storm Ravens, and Interceptors and/or Dread Knights with teleporters.

Chaos Space Marines can take Huron or Ahriman as their Warlord to get the guaranteed ability to Infiltrate 1d3 Infantry units. You can use that to hold back a couple of big infantry squads to react to your opponent's deployment or Outflank. It's not reallly quick, per se, but if you Infiltrate Raptors, Warp Talons, or allied quick Daemons like Furies or Daemonettes, you can potentially be threatening assault VERY quickly; even on turn 1 if you're going second. (Because the rulebook forbids a unit from assaulting in the first player turn if it Infiltrated or Scouted).

You tried to get your brother into it. That's why it failed.

His brother is already interested and wants to play, he just doesn't know where to go.

As others have said, I recommend one of the Eldar races. That fits the "quick and stealthy" bill the closest. Mind you though, they present a pretty unforgiving army play-style and he will likely lose a lot in the beginning because unlike MEQ a few mistakes can cost you the entire game.

After a bit of talking, and a proxy battle, he has decided against tau. He is looking into a saim-hann themed eldar army.
He loves the wild-rider fluff, plus jetbikes are beast. (see what I did there? beast... wild-riders..)

He has essentially given up on the "stealth" aspect of his desires, we'll save that for kill-team

So all we need to do now, is get him some models, and start painting!

Thanks for the suggestions, he really really likes eldar now.

How will I tell my archon that my brother is one of those craftworld dwelling parasites?

No, do not let your brother play this game. He will only give more money to GW. Join the boycott!

Then again, life is too short, he will have to learn as we did.

Armies: Space Marines, IG, Tyranids, Eldar, Necrons, Orks, Dark Eldar.
