Okay, so I've only recently started playing 40k, and I put together a basic starting list (600pts) without putting much thought into it, but most of it I got from ebay so it wasn't too expensive. The list is basically 2 squads of DA's, Asurmen, and a squad of pathfinders. It works okay in a game but only if I'm playing alongside a more punchy army. So here's the new idea I have for a list:

TROOPS:
Dire Avengers x10
Exarch
-Bladestorm
-Shimmershield+Power weapon
162pts

Pathfinders x5
120pts

ELITES:
Fire Dragons x5
80pts

Howling Banshees x5
Exarch
-Mirrorswords
-War Shout
107

HQ:
Farseer
-Runes of warding, Runes of witnessing, Spirit stones
-Fortune, Guide
150Pts

Total: 619pts

It would be awesome if I could get some feedback on how to get the pts down to 600, as well as a review on how well this list is likely to perform in a game. All input is welcome!

My advice is if your kitting your avengers out in the way you are I'd drop blade storm and just give them defend. Also why are your fire dragons costing you 120pts? Should only be 80pts for 5 and credit to you for trying to use banshees I personally don't see them as viable right now, purely because we have no assault vehicles right now.

Have you considered some jet bikes? Or alot of people would suggest some war walkers with scatter lasers! End of the day though you find what works for you

Yeah, that 120pts was a typo, sorry *corrected*.

I'm not too interested in jetbikes, it seems to be what everyone is doing, plus I'm running on a really tight budget.

You could try:

HQ
Farseer
Runes of warding, Runes of witnessing, Spirit stones, Fortune, Guide
150Pts

Troops
5x Pathfinders
120pts

10x Dire Avengers
Exarch, Bladestorm, Shimmershield+Power weapon
162pts

Heavy Support
5x Dark Reapers,
Exarch, Tempest Launcher, Crack Shot
217pts

That's a grand total of 649 points. You have eight STR-5 AP-3 shots at 48" and a barrage too for good measure. IMO that is going to obliterate everything at your points level, from MEQ to transports. I have played this list with some differences, I had guardians instead of pathfinders and I had bladestorming dire avengers too. This list is so much fun. It also helps that you have some of the models to start you off so you don't have to proxy too much.

That does sound pretty cool but what could I use vs vehicles? I play with some friends and a lot of them squeeze in Land Speeders or Killa Kans. Plus, terminators are my most hated unit (Wolf guard terminators especially) , they just tear my guys up every game.
Other than that this list would be really cool to play, the Dark Reapers are really powerful.

Land Speeders are only AV 10, so everything in your army can at least glance it and your Dark Reapers can penetrate it without much problems. If you happen to be against Killa Kans, their AV is 11 front and sides with AV 10 rear. If you want to kill them, guiding your Dark Reapers is a must to glance them. Of course, if you want to be extra sure, give the Dark Reaper Exarch a missile launcher with fast shot instead of the tempest launcher, but I prefer the barrage to 2 shots killing two people.
With wolf guard just take them down with weight of fire and getting fives and sixes for ap 1 guns on your pathfinders. The list is pretty well rounded. but it can't pop a Land Raider is someone brings one.

You want to kill Terminators, at 600pts... man, that is a heck of a task.

Farseer - 170Pts
Runes of warding, Runes of witnessing, Spirit stones, (Fortune, Guide, Mindwar)

Dire Avengers x10 - 162pts
Exarch, Defend, Shimmershield+Power weapon (Power Axe)

Guardians x10 - 135pts
Star Cannon, Warlock (Embolden)

Guardians x10 - 135pts
Star Cannon, Warlock, (Embolden)

602pts

Places the Farseer in with the Avengers... they are his bodyguards. Place one Guardian Squad to each side of the Avengers (within 6" of the Farseer if possible for Guide). Guide the Starcannons on any vehicles or Terminators. Yes, the Exarch is throwning away Init 6 for the Axe which gives him +1 Str and AP 2. He can now kill Terminators. Use Mindwar to kill the Sergeant of the Terminators (hope he is the only Character) and then Fortune your own unit. Attack any DSing Terminators after everything shoots them and hope you killed the only person who can Challenge you, then your Axe can tear into the Terminators forcing Invuln saves and allowing them only 1 attack due to Defend. Any attacks that do hit, you at least get a re-roll due to Fortune. If there are two Characters in the Terminators, try to Mindwar the HQ choice and hope you roll well and he rolls like ass. Then have your Farseer accept any Challenges due to his better Invuln save. If you note, I do not have Bladestorm, because your already light a Catapult with the Exarch and if you use it on your turn and they charge you on thier turn, you can not shoot Overwatch. Since I am building them as a Bodyguard unit, I /need/ to be able to Overwatch. If I had 15pts, I would get it just so I can use it /on/ the Overwatch. But I felt Mindwar was to important for a take-out power and Guide/Fortune are just to damn useful.

If anything, I hope this gives you some ideas. Good luck!
