Just wondering. I feel that more lore/fluff discussion would go on if the two were separated. That subsection is really dominated by tabletop gaming advice.

I think it used to be separate threads but both threads weren't getting enough posts so they just combined them, someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

From memory it has something to do with the amount of traffic it gets. And separating the forums would be detrimental to both of them.

The 'Discussion' forums for these games were added because the Dakka Discussions forum was simply being overwhelmed with general 40K & WHFB threads (mainly 40K).

So a 40K general discussions forum was created to move all those 40K general topics into, and as you can see from the total number of posts and topics, that is a HUGE forum.

On the WHFB side, we didn't have NEARLY as many general threads to deal with, so rather than creating a stand-alone general WHFB discussion forum, we deicded to combine it with the WHFB forum that got the least traffic already (the background forum)...and as you can see, even with the combined topics, it still doesn't have more discussion that the YMDC or army lists forum.


In other words, we don't create forums and then try to fill them with content...that doesn't tend to work (just look at other sites that have dozens upon dozens of different forums, but most of them are just like ghost towns that never get posted in). Instead, we keep the forum split to a minimum and then when the traffic demands it, we'll create a new forum and move all the appropriate old content into that new location.

The fact is, WHFB background doesn't warrant enough conversation to have its own forum, so its best left as part of the general discussion of WHFB for the time being.
