Thanks for the update.

True about it being a shame and the additional charges makes it less appealing to me. Slightly different context, I know, but I'll stick with my Spartacus board game

Hi lord_blackfang,

I've got it confirmed from Japanime Games (via email and the comments section on KS) that European copies of the games will ship directly from France to their EU customers. Therefore no import duties and additional taxes, which is a big thing for me too.

Thanks for that. That changes things!

The info came from their facebook page

http://www.facebook.com/arenarexgame

this is a cut and paste of the relevant bit

"We decided to keep our prices as low as possible for the campaign in order to give the best value to all of our contributors, international and domestic alike. We understand VAT is a pain, but in order to cover it on our end we would have to raise our prices. Realistically, it's a zero-sum situation.

We are really excited to have interest from all over the world, and we can tell you now that our international shipping will only be $10 more, which hopefully will take some of the sting out of the taxes. After the campaign and after all backers have received their pledges, we'll revisit European distribution. Though it's not a promise we can make for the Kickstarter, we think it's important for the future of Arena Rex".

so it looks like they hope to get European distribution of some sort together, but it would be after the KS so it's a case of back now to get in early (and pay VAT on it) or wait till it hits retail and cross your fingers that they suceed in geting Euro distribution

(I'm still interested, but it is a bit more of a struggle)

That's the United Kingdom. Geographically speaking the whole of Ireland is part of the British Isles.

I really want to get this for me and my boy but the streach goals are to far away, as others have said its a glorified pre order so I know i can get this any time so I will sit this out on the 1 dollar mark just to see if they can sort the stresch goals out and funnel my money elsewhere.

I'm in the same boat, I really like the look of it but I'm holding at the $1 level until it's sorted. I don't like how they've structured the goals or made some of the figures exclusive to the $500 level (I really like the design of the Nox figure ) and how they never told people initially that they'd ship from the EU. It stinks of a preorder system and not a proper KS campaign.

I don't like how this is developing into a tiered system of some people getting potentially getting exclusives and others not. You should have the option of purchasing the KS exclusives at lower levels or having them inclusive at higher levels. Kingdom Death and Zombicide are perfect examples of clearly set out KS campaigns. Everything should be laid out clearly in advance and the top tiers should be reserved for professionally painted options or sculpts of the backer, etc.

Reserving figures and not giving the option of purchasing flies in the face of their claims that they want to move away from the French blind collectible system and move to an open system for the English language game.

I'm OK with that, though I'd still like to know how to get the Goultard and Nox Promo figures outside of the $500 "I Want All The Things Now" pledge level,

Oh, and if the 'expansions' are random, or if they include figures already in the main game - I'm hoping not, as duplicates don't seem like a lot of fun.

Id like those as well (just pledged $150 level) especially the guy with the sword, very awesome. Would be nice if they were add ons.

I've just posted a long argument to the KS thread, hopefully they'll change the KS to provide better stretch goals, more information and better availability to customers. Here's my post:

Hopefully I’ve articulated my points and arguments below. Apologies for the length of the post.

I understand that there will always be various levels of Kickstarter pledges. However, normally the higher pledges are reserved for unique extras such as limited edition artwork, additional sculpts, having your models professionally painted or being sculpted and included as a character in a game or a forthcoming expansion etc.

Higher pledge levels do not generally, and should not, preclude potential buyers from owning a collection of characters, particularly when one of them is prominently used to advertise the game but is then not available to the majority of players ( https://s3.amazonaws.com/ksr/assets/000/429/989/099144c7f83b5ffd32e0b213fcb7fdde_large.jpg?1362693857 ). Imagine what would happen if Pikachu was only available of you pledged the maximum amount of money in a Pokemon KS, if Luke Skywalker was excluded from a Star Wars KS or Captain America from the Avengers unless you paid the absolute maximum amount. In the case of this KS; the decision to limit Nox and Goultard prevents fans of the game / universe from owning their favourite character. From reading other forums, this approach has turned long term fans of Krosmaster/Dofus/Wakfu away from buying Krosmaster either in this Kickstarter or when it is released at retail.

Look at the success of Rivet Wars, Kingdom Death, Sedition Wars, Zombicide Season 1 and the current Zombicide campaign. None of these prevented customers from owning the models for the game.

My main issue is that Japanime Games has said that it wants to move away from the blind, collectible nature of the French release of the game. If that is the case, I don't think it is fair that if you'd like to have a complete collection, you are forced into pledging at the $500 level (which is no longer an option for the majority of people) to get the final two figures, otherwise it's tough luck as far as Nox and Goultard are concerned. I do accept that you are getting other extras as well at that level but something is amiss when those who have pledged at that level are questioning its perceived value.

Also, please do not interpret my views as wanting these two figures from an exclusivity point of view or as a power gamer. The first I heard of Krosmaster was yesterday morning on another site and fell in love with the characterful models, in fact it was the look of the Nox figure which got me interested. I have no knowledge of Nox other than he just looks cool On a similar note, I showed the game to a friend of mine tonight who would never consider a game like Krosmaster and his first reaction to comment how good the models looked, in particular how cool Nox looks.

I understand that Japanime has to negotiate with Ankama and their hands may be tied due to licensing etc. I think that a potential solution could be to keep the $500 pledge level as is, but giving early access to the promotional figures and expansions for this year as well as any stretch goals and any additional extras (the special sculpted tokens are an excellent example of this, nice to have but not annoying the fanbase by deliberately excluding the majority of players).

Those who pledged at a lower level, should be eligible to purchase items such as Nox and Goultard only for the duration of the Kickstarter Campaign, in essence, keeping them as KS exclusives, never to be repeated after this KS ends. This approach was adopted in the first Zombicide KS where a model based on Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory (and models based on characters from other properties) were sold only for that KS campaign. These models can now only be found via private sellers / eBay and sell for a much higher value. Guillotine Games have stayed true to their commitment that the original KS exclusives will not be released again which has gained them a lot of good will for keeping to their word, whilst allowing people to a chance to get their favourites, albeit for a limited time.

I see no particular reason in this KS campaign to annoy your potential fanbase by deliberately restricting the models available. With all due respect, this does not strike me as a traditional KS campaign. You are not developing a product from scratch. The figures and game have already been produced by Ankama for the French market and this is, in essence, a localised and repackaged version for the English market.

It is using KS as a preorder system and not developing a brand new IP which needs to restrict the availability of such characters as Nox, Goultard or any others.

I really do wish you well and I hope you take my views and those of the community on board. I, and others, have pledged initially so we can contribute to the debate and would like become more involved but the choices to date have not impressed or generated good will in the community.

This has the potential to be one of the most successful KS yet, but the approach so far could have, and in some cases is having the effect of annoying / alienating the existing fanbase and turning away newcomers. What is more important? Having a massively successful KS campaign which generates good will, keeps people informed, and gives customers what they want whilst raising a lot of revenue for Japanime Games or having a KS which raises its initial funding goal but generates ill feeling and bad publicity in the long term.

A new $500 pledge level (limited to 200 spots) has just been announced.

Backers get a Kickstarter exclusive Nox XXL figure as well as a copy of the game, the poster, the special set of alternative trees and bushes, the Resin Terrain Token pack, Yugo Promo, Amelia Promo, Goultard Promo, Nox Promo, a special resin token pack, and metal Gallons of Glory tokens all of the figures being released this year in expansion packs.

Also Japanime Games have confirmed in the comments section that the $500 pledge level backers will get all annnounced stretch goals even if the amounts aren't reached.

Looks like this has had the effect of opening up spots in the other $500 pledge levels, for Morora XXL or Dark Goultard XXL, as people move to get their favourite characters.

I guess that depends on your definition of 'sweet spot'?

I'd say it is actually either the $100 level pledge or $150 level pledge.

Well, because all the promos come at $500, it's easy to see why that is the perception. The earliest you can get the 2 extra promos and the 3D tokens is $300, so I'd argue that's the sweet spot. Which is, IMO, too high for a sweet spot.

They are free, there is no price listed with them...but they are only added to pledges over $100. Unless Im missing something. If the stretch goals are extra cost that will dull my enthusiasm severely.

While I like the look of the game, and the idea of prepainted minis...as far as Kickstarters go this one is a bit lacking. Im a bit disappointed by the length between stretch goals, and the fact they are limiting figures like Nox to the extremely high pledges. Im in for the $150 pledge...but that may change. If anything extra exciting comes up before the end of the Kickstarter it may get dropped down to put funds in something else. We shall see, still over a month to go.

Same here - this one is doing well, but it could certainly be doing a lot better, and a lot 'more' too, possibly...

Just make sure you don't express those concerns in the KS forum. The fanboy beat down is in full effect. Lots of the folks don't seem to understand that the more people they can get in a lower tiers the larger the player base becomes. I read it, and I can help but think those folks would be just fine of the $500 option was the only option. I even got called "cheap" for being unwilling to plunk down $500.

Yikes.

The MSRP is $15 higher than the French edition, they've moved away from blind boxes for the US market, and you have the opportunity to get some promos that are otherwise hard to get, but only If you pledge at least $300.

Other than that my understanding is that it's identical.
