Here's a thread to sing the praises of the humble Lasgun. Laspistols are also allowed. NO HELLGUNS.

to start things off, I witnessed a 2nd-ed game wherein a Khorne Berzerker Terminator (save 2+ on 2D6) was felled by a laspistol shot (Save Modifier 0). The Chaos player gave up and went home. Clearly an amazing shot to the edge of the eyepiece or the like.

And in one of my first few games of 5th ed, ten guardsmen with FRF! killed 3 Space Wolves, forcing a draw. GO LASGUNS.

Shot 3 medusa siege cannons at mephiston and did no wounds (he only had 2 left). Shot the 9 lasgun artillery crew at him and wounded him 3 times for 2 failed saves. Yep flashlights kill vampires.

While no one has ever taken a vet squad and cheered because they get BS4 Las-guns, I think I have had lasguns count for more Terminator and Marine deaths than my Plasma/Melta guns combined. Something about the scoff at S3 AP- that makes people roll more 1's for saves than ever before.

In other news, I had a blob of (now) about 23 lasguns left when they got charged by a squad of 5 TH/SS termies (they had nothing better to do). Overwatch killed 4 of them, the last was beaten to death by a bayonet

I always find some beauty in the lasgun when shooting from a chimera with a vet squad.

3 plasma guns, 1 autocannon and 1 LASGUN!

That lasgun usually does surprise me

Had a game during 5th edition. Land raider moved. Assault termies disembarked. Then decided to charge a blob squad of 30 guardsmen with three commissars. Three melta gun and 27 lasguns and 3 las pistols. Well, charge failed due to being eight inches out. My turn, frfsrf, and 84 las shots. 8 termies died to that. Sure the meltas got one or two, but it was amazing.

As far as the above post goes. My vets go three plasma gun, one plasma pistol, and a lasgun. The lasgun always seems to score a wound.

Wasn't it 3+ on 2d6 for terminators? I think Abbadon was special with his 2+ on 2d6 save.

As for lasguns, best thing I killed was a daemon prince. It still counts if you use the bayonet attachment right?

the Mark of Khorne increased saving throws from 3+ to 2+ and gave frenzy. It didn't specify if it was terminator armour or power armour, and since that was why Abbadon had a 2+ save, we always carried it over at the time.
I think if people phoned up the roolzboys, it was clarified to be Abaddon-only, but that was before the advent of online FAQ's so most people played on with un-FAQ'd, RAW. Thus silly things like assassins with polymorphine in terminator armour on a bike.

And yes, I didn't say no to bayonets... I suppose you were using the lasgun, possibly the butt, or even just ramming it in his mouth and spraying on full auto...

/apologises for that double entendre

Utterly brilliant. Though Id change 'Very snazzy' to 'awfully snazzy' and make 'Got laughed at a lot' to make it flow/read better

I lost the count of the number of big ugly monsters (Fex, Tyrant, Avatar, Ghaz, Deamons ...) that I killed with a barrage of stroboscopic lights
But I suppose that's because I only give 1 special weapon (usually flamer or GL) to my squads, and never use veterans, thus relying on massed cheap shooting, overwhelming the opponent's optical nerves

In the same vein, bayonets and lasgun butts are very deadly, already managed to wrestle a trench out of Khorne Berzerkers hands with regular guardsmen without any comissar or power weapon !
Agreed I launched about 30 guards at 2 berzerkers, but that's how we roll in the Imperial Guard !
More is better

Then you've never played against a good/competent guard player.

I don't play guard (but I've been eyeing the death corps for a while now) but ive lost track of how many terminators my deathwing have lost to lasguns. Small elite armies really struggle against the volume of fire that the imperial guard can put out, and that's before you even factor in the tanks and heavy/special weapons.

Why bring armor against flyers and infantery?

Flyers: Hydra Flak Tank. Hurr durr durr.
Infantery: Armor > infantery

You know that magical river you can get in 6th that lets you reroll armor saves?

I've killed termis in that with a ten man squad of lasgun guardsmen. Lost the game but it was totally worth it to see that Grey Knight players face

On an unrelated note, I just realized i sold almost all of my heavy weapons and all but a few plasma and melta guns the other day. My guardsmen are going to have to start relying on the humble a lot more often...

Most spectacular thing a laspistol has done for me is pop off a captain on a bike.
Unloaded 40 odd lasgun shots, nothing happens, thought that was the end of it, someone mentions "don't forget the laspistol". I rolled for a joke, my Sergeant didn't see the funny side.

You've sold your stuff, Moustaffa? Why?

To fund my new guard army. Check out my P&M blog (more like pitiful excuse for one but whatever) to see the details. It's a long story.

TLDR I'm making a new guard army that will be at least 50% more cool and the money to buy it had to come from somewhere.

So right now literally all I have is lasgun guardsmen with a very few or the good guns to go around. Should be a lot of fun to have to come up with legit IG lists that have almost no plasma, meltas, autocannons, or lascannons whatsoever

The humble lasgun, so many discount it, and then I fire 100+ shots at your terminator squad.

Back in 5th, I had a tactic called "ninja fortress," which was some big ruin loaded with a blob squad and a Lord Commissar. Time and time again, some shmuck would deep strike some termies in near the building, and I would unload with 120 lasgun shots, on average, and watch those 5 termies try to avoid rolling 2s, which pretty much never happened.

So many people discount lasguns, but really, they're an incredibly cheap weapon which can, under the right situations, fire a million shots at something, which will proceed to fail saves.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

back in 4th ed I had a lowly Imperial Guard officer charge a 5 man squad of Grey Knights. My basilisk killed all but one, and the lowly officer's laspistol managed to kill the last one. Now, while not amazing that a basilisk practically killed the squad, it was the thought of a lowly guardsmen charging into the fray with nothing but his standard issue steel balls and came out on top.

The other day in 6th I'd had (now named Guardsmen "Lucky" Chico) kill a company command squad from basic marines codex by himself after his squad was killed to a man because my opponent couldn't waste the time to kill one humble lasgun armed guardsmen.

How did that one unfold then? successive lucky sniping over many turns?

Well a lucky set of three rounds of rapid-fire lasgun shooting and some substantially lucky rolls. Or bad rolls on my opponents side.
