Apparantly Justin Bieber tried to get Paul to sing with him to boost his own credibility, and McCartney refused as soon as the word "Duet" was spoken.

I'mma just linking to the google search, since it's mostly just one paragraph of relevent info and taunting whichever link you can look for, but didn't see a thread on Dakka about this.

Edit: Forgot the link

The only time Justin Beiber was good was during one of the Epic Rap Battles.

Wait, somebody just informed me that wasn't him. Therefore, he's always sucked and Paul McCartney was right in denying the little bastard. Bet he went and cried in his dressing room.

yes, I already knew that wasn't the real Beiber in ERB.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

If we all stop talking about Beiber maybe he'll fade into obscurity.

While I dislike Beiber's "music", I think it's ridiculous to aim such vitriol at him for something that pretty much affects your life in absolutely no way.

Plus, it's not like Paul McCartney could have had scheduling conflicts or just generally been busy, etc. Last I heard, he's doing the score for Bungie's new game "Destiny".

Our entire nation is rejecting him.
He was rejected entry into a bar
Got ripped by photographers
He's never coming back now apparently, he had Hell in our fine nation. Also, McCartney is from my beautiful city, never been prouder to be a Scouser than upon hearing that news.

Beebs reminds me a little of Joffery from GoT. I can just imagine him getting dragged back to his hotel room by a minder as he screams for the heads of the photographers attacking him. Ah good times.

He reminds me of a typical producer led artist that makes millions of dollars. All while pissing off the people that maintain that their music somehow "better". It's not. It's just less marketable.

You're not a 14 year old girl, no gak you don't like his music. He's not aimed at you. Just like death metal isn't aimed at 14 yo white girls (well that don't hate their parents at least).

I do enjoy the hate he gets purely on a schadenfreude basis. The rage he produces in others is just outstanding. He has no discernible musical talent that I can tell. And yet he makes 10 times what an independent artist would make. And for that, he is better than all of us, globally speaking. I think that really is what the Comedian was laughing at honestly. It's all bs.

Kan, if you're not with us, you're against us. Besides, it's not like I called for his head (if I did in the part you didn't quote, I forgot) like I did with Harry Potter's. Should have called for his head on a pike though...and I've seen attractive 25+ year old attractive teachers obsessed with him...teachers I almost, could have, maybe had a shot with if it wasn't for being deluded by him. And you say he didn't have an effect on my life. For shame, good sir! For shame...

No flies on McCartney, he was always the sharp one.

Bieber might have been better off approaching Ringo, but I doubt that would work either. Barry Manilow perhaps?

Paul had all right to refuse this, admittedly rather, uhm... generous offer of Justin's, as I don't believe he was too fond of autotuned singing...

I've heard Beiber's actually not that bad at writing music and can play several instruments. The problem is that he's known for the autotuned garbage, and rightly so. I still hate his music, but it's not like I'd go out of my way to do it.

Good on McCartney for turning him down. That would have been the ultimate career suicide, and I'm not even a McCartney fan. I can just imagine that conversation.

B: I'm a huge fan

M: thanks, I've heard... things... about you.

B: Wow really? You know what would be awesome?

M: If we both walked out of this room and never spoke again?

B: No silly! We should sing a duet!

M: Ahahahahahhahahaah... oh.. you're serious? Let me laugh harder...

In other news Prince and Justin Timberlake were the surprise guests at SXSW and the wife didn't know about it. To say she was pissed is an understatement.

I dont think thats a fair question honestly. His record company would never let him attempt that because like it or not, the kids a cash cow.

Does Beiber actually write his own music?

I would think yes, but odds of anyone that isn't a diehard fan or knows him personally hearing it is probably slim to none.

Many of these pop star type celebrities are handed songs written by dedicated songwriters. Most of the time they had little to no direct influence in the songwriting process. Many Top 40 hits you probably know were made this way. A good example would be exile's "love you all over". They did a gig at a place where I work and explained that the record label handed them the song one day in the studio and just said "play it". next thing you know its a huge hit.

If Bieber ever really gets into his own songwriting, it'll probably be once his popularity has died down and his record label isn't in the mindset of "We need another hit NOW!" He'll have a lot more freedom since most people wont care. It sounds sad, but thats just how the industry works unfortunately. Who knows, maybe he'll write some music we're more into down the road?

Actually I would probably stab the little feth for how he treated everyone in his home town (pretty much denied the existence of anyone that was close to him after he got "famous")

After the way that he's behaved, an some of the things he's said, is that such a bad thing? It saved them the trouble of disavowing knowledge of him

The things that tick me off about him (and others like him) have little to do with the fact that he can actually be a talented kid before producers got a hold of him:

1) Producer-driven music: at this point, 90% of his music could be recorded by just about anybody. With auto-tuning being so prevalent anybody with an ounce of talent could be recording this same stuff. It is written to be devoid of any actual content and is just generic beat-and-rhythm driven pop-music. It doesn't matter that he can play instruments and write music since all his stuff is produced electronically and written for him. I know his music is not targeted at me, but that is my problem with his music.

2) from published accounts, he is just a jerk. Picking fights with people, being rude, thinking the world owes him stuff. Even if you are talented that is enough for me to write you off.

The funniest one that I'd heard of was him telling off the person who threw a water bottle at him, oh and huffing and vowing never to return to the UK again

To be fair though I'd also flip the feth out if someone threw a water bottle at me. That's just not something you do to people.
