@hk1x1: god damn... have some mercy on the other contestants! That's looking extremely promising... I especially love what you're doing with the bricks, that method adds so much character to them, and the sculpt is masterful! Make some molds.. you never know someone might be looking for that sort of thing!
Well I guess Vik is dropping out due to having a serious talk with his family about quitting the hobby... sorry to see you go Vik...

of course i wont leave the field of contestants without a fight to our dear hk1x1
i am no fool^^
instead...i am a riveteer!!!
and we rivet for success^^
although... sometimes we construct without any rivets^^
which brings me up to speed with my current progress:
the top i i left to be able to be taken off... so to better work and play inside...and boy... there will be some small marvels inside still to come just you wait
and as this is also something that this competition should provide...here is the educational part:
i made these columns from two corks each... each column i then covered in a mixture of tissue paper and dilluted PVA... now it is a nice and very sturdy structure... as the whole is made from foam corks...yeah... nowadays you get these too in winebottles...urgh....i then pinned these to the position in the constrction by actuall pins... i cut of the pinheads and then placed the dull ends with pincers (attention boys and gals...this could be hurting otherwse...) and just left enough of the pins to later on have them secure stuck and connected to the base of the temple... and the upper structure to the roof too... see for yourself for this little description...
that´s it for now... i hope i can make some more progress tomorrow...
cheers, vik

I've done very little on this recently, but time for a materials update...
I have spare Phoenix Lords of each flavour (except Baharroth, but I'll just use my only one and buy a new one if I need to) and I need plinths for them to stand on for my Avatar's shrine/throne room. I have five rather lovely shaped Lynx roll-on deodourant bottles that I kept from when I first saw them for exactly this purpose. Sadly, I only have five. However, I also have the tops of two bottles of Febreze which also have a very nice shape. The Febreze tops will need something else to go on, and I was considering some bottles of Isklar Spring Water. I don't think I am going to use the Isklar. If anything, I'll probably go for Evian bottles again, as per my Eldar Bastions I am building... Anyway, here are the raw materials I am planning on using.
So, I need to decide whether to buy an Illyrith just for the sake of this shrine or just go with the original six. I then need to decide whether only Asuryan gets a big plinth, or another Phoenix Lord too, and maybe leave an empty plinth for Illyrith, or any future Warp Spider/Shining Spear Phoenix Lords. Opinions welcome, please.

I don't have any Phoenix Lords lying around, so I used Eldrad to show how the plinths should look. It is just a scrappy blu- tac mock up, but you can see the idea. Bit top heavy, so iI think I will fill the bottle with something... Hope I have time to get this finished.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Or this way round. I think I like this less. It makes the plinth look too big, and doesn't seem focused inwards the way I would like

Looking good fifty!
I think the plinths are a cool shape for Eldar, but the most important thing is how the figure will be unified with the plinth so it seems like one structure. It's a lot harder than modelling some stone or metal statue, that we are all familiar with.

I think I want to go with an all over wraithbone colour for both plinth and statue. It will almost certainly involve Gryphonne Sepia wash at some stage!

Sure no problem, but obviously the better it is the more it has a chance of winning. Whether or not it's functional in a game, does not matter for this contest really. It could even be the base on a model, or the model itself, as long as it fits the theme of the contest...

Just thought I'd share a resource that's helped me in designing my entry, It's a collection of artwork from all over the internet featuring 40k Imperial Architecture.
I know it wont be of use to everyone, but it might provide inspiration to some.

Well, it's Italian, I think, so it's probably something glorious and decadent. Built the base. And with hot tub: I'm going to start by building it as per the instructions and then see how best to adapt. It occurs that I could buy a set of fw khorne brass to decorate. That would cost more than this plastic crack did... I might leave the base as is, but I'm fairly sure I can make an interlocked khorne logo. I'm thinking ziggurat o'khorne, basically. Need to scrounge some khornate iconography... The crater will get scrounged for general play. Here is broadly what it's supposed to look like: Although being the "limited edition" it comes with red sides, transparent crater and limited edition figures. Gee. I'm sorely tempted to put lights in the eyes... If I can make it vertically AND horizontally a khorne sigil, not only will that look top as a shrine to it'd make a great piece of multi-level terrain, is the theory.

Hmm lots of possibilities there...
the skull-rock head is the best piece of kit, and then my second thoughts would be how to integrate it into a khorne logo... then probably lose the red flamey pieces.
keep in mind... you can find the cheap LED tea light candles, and easily install them for a burning flame effects...
and beyond that... a good paintjob does wonders....
