I watched this series back in the day and recently stumbled across it on youtube. This is a totaly amazing set of shows that talk about changes in science, technology, and social attitudes among other subjects and how one thing can lead to another. If you have never heard about this series, I recommend giving it a look.

Looks very fascinating, I shall give it a watch.
Have you heard of Terence McKenna? A very eloquent ethnobotanist, public speaker and author. Has a lot to say about the universe, us and the symbiosis between the two. Very much recommended!

The Day the Universe Changed is an eye opener from an age before the BBc was dumbed down beyond all recognition.
I remember that series from the 80's. Looked for it on YouTube a couple of years back and was delighted to find the links. Then made a thread about it on gaming sites.
Relapse is obviously showing the cyclic nature of humanity. I had to do a search to see if I started a recommendation thread here, but I didnt. It did so on the Battletech forums instead.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

To me, it's one of the best shows ever put on television anywhere. I was extremely, pleasantly surprised to find it on youtube and plan on sitting my kids in front of it and talking about it with them.
Horrible histories is another series that I got my kids into watching, and now they go around the house singing the Henry the 8th song.

I assume you mean Wonders of [the universe/the soolar system/ life] with Brian Cox.
He's quite easy to follow, but doesn't explain much.
He does sell DVDs and books, though.

Brian Cox does some good stuff too, however even then its somewhat more simplified, though that isn't a bad thing. However even programs like The Day the universe Changed were far from unique in the 80's, whereas Brian Cox is a dim candle in a room stocked with mindless drivel which is the BBC broadcasting schedule.
However Cox while having an approachable face doesnt explain things half as well as his predecessors.
