Reading the rules for the Sabre Gun Platforms, they are upgrades you give to an IG platoon squad. They are also immobile artillery.
What happens if the platoon squad they are part of launches an assault? Are they left behind, as they can not move to form coherency?

Each squad is a separate unit. They are only treated as a single unit for FOC chart and rolling for reserves.

as TzeenthNet said, they are basically different Heavy Weapon Teams, thus you can't combine them with regular Squads
Sadly DKoK can't take them so far (hope it's changed in the much awaited update)

I don't think they can be attached to infantry squads. They are a different type of heavy weapon squad. HWSs can't be blobbed with anything else, so the issue should never arise. I guess you could attach an IC, but I wouldn't bother.
If the case that you're presenting is possible, then the squad would always have to remain within coherency with the immobile Sabre, severely limiting their ability to move or assault. You can't just leave chunks of a single squad behind, unless thre are very specific rules allowing you to do so.

Actually, attaching an IC to a Sabre platform team can be great
Their main weakness is leadership, slap a Lord comissar (with camo cloak obviously) in there behind an ADL, that's a very sturdy (T7 as well, so no ID from shooting) commissar with a nearly fearless AA unit (10 shots with the Quad gun added)
I pulled this simple trick in a recent tournament, the big unit of guards not needing a commissar as they were led by Azrael

Note that ID is calculated at wound allocation so it's possible to ID the commissar if he's the front most model.

Are you saying that when an IG Platoon purchases a heavy weapon squad, the heavy weapon squad becomes a seperate unit? I thought it was attached to the platoon.

It is part of the platoon, but the platoon is not considered to be a single unit. Check out the descriptions in the Codex. Its like purchasing a dedicated transport for a squad. The two are purchased as part of the same force org slot, but in the game they are 2 independant units that do not need to stay with each other. A Guard Infantry platoon is all part of a single FO chart slot, but each squad is a separate entity in game. Its only when you blob infantry squads together that they start having to stay in coherency with each other, but you can't blob with HWSs.

A platoon is made up of AT LEAST 3 separate units - each infantry squad, min 2, and the platoon command squad. Any additional squad ( SWS, HWS, more infantry, etc) are ALL individual units that just take up a single slot on the force organisation chart

@NoArmourSave - are you getting platoon and squad mixed up? An infantry squad of 10 guys can include a heavy weapon team, replacing 2 of the infantrymen. As nos indicates a platoon is made up of several different squads, which can include a sabre defense battery.
