Miniwargaming just posted that there is a new GW document that will prevent the online sale of their products starting June 15th. I already knew this was the direction GW was going but I still find it extremely disapointing. Thought the community should know.

Well this is disappointing is pretty much all I have to say as well. I'm in New Zealand, but its still cheaper to buy and ship from america than at my 'FLGS'. I'm not ripping on my FLGS, they dont set their costs, its just the way it is... well was. However, in some aspects I do see this as an attempt to support any non-GW FLGS's, which is good. Mine isn't a GW, and I know its unfair when I buy the large proportion from online retailers, then come in and use their store and only buy smaller individual things from them. I imagine quite a few people fall into this category.

ANY means of Internet sales is prohibited by that. It states it quite clearly.
It's obviously primarily a money grab. You prevent online discount retailers from selling your product, and as such people wanting to buy online have to do it via their website's higher prices, from which they get more money to begin with (since it all goes to them, rather than some of it to an independent retailer). They can of course justify it with supporting independent physical stores, and it's actually true that this probably does help them, but overall I'm not sure if this is such a good move. It might drive a lot of people to stop buying altogether.
These documents only affect North America. Maybe it won't spread further.

Note that they can only restrict where they provide stock to. Legally they have no claim over the second-hand sale of models already purchased (certainly in the UK and I believe the US as well), so Ebay and the like are still good to go.

pretty sure they cant stop ebay, its all second-hand based. They cant remove the right as a consumer to resell what we buy unless its something along the lines of "You dont technically own it but you bought it" which only applies to things that are connected to a service like ipads, cell phones, tablets, gaming consoles, etc etc and even then we can resell it its just not as easy to do so because of the service connected to it.

Careful now one of these days they will have Finecontracts that you have to sign to purchase models.

It is important note all this affects is stores with GW trade accounts, as GW will block them from selling online. Basically, GW won't supply anyone who sells online, but they have absolutely zero authority over the second hand market.
So, the bits market, and all those in oz and NZ will still be able to order stuff off of ebay, and save yourself a whack of money, and even Canadians can save some money, but the discount bulk sellers based in the US will likely have to figure out a new system.
Overall, it's a pretty neutral change; most online business was secondhand to begin with, and it hurts areas without non-GW FLGS, as it'll be harder to build armies in bulk without paying the full GW price, but it's not apocalyptic.
I'd still wish GW would actually get back into the bits market, that's something they could do that'd make good business sense, this is really an ineffectual policy addressing something which isn't a major issue or revenue loss for them.

It also states quite clearly it's for people with trade accounts. If you don't have a trade account, they have no reason to not sell to you if you resell online. So people buying kits at retail and breaking them down to sell the bits will be fine - they just will have a tighter profit margin.

Reading through the actual PDFs... did anything actually change from the previous policy put in place in 2003, or was it just extended from the US to Canada? As I read it, they are just saying you can't sell GW products via an "online shopping cart"... and therefore nothing has changed in the past 10 years. Retailers currently get around this by ordering via email/phone in the US.

Yep, no real changes. Just the US policy from ten years ago is being expanded to include Canada. Really much ado about nothing.
