This is correct, i don't not want people voting for there country because they live their, but i do want a thought process rather than just for the sake of being a "patriot" to one's country.
Then I shall vote for it because it commemorates one of many victories over the Brits.

Debate be over.
This. Land of my fathers is a brilliant national anthem.
I suspect the US is going to come out on top, for one reason, allot of "America feth ye" voting with poor justifications. That and most people will not read the first post, just vote. I don't think the US should have been included. The UK should have as allot of people in the UK don't like out national anthem and it would have been interesting to see what others think.

Either the Italian or French ones would get my vote. The British national anthem is pretty dreary (and yes, it is the anthem of the whole UK, not just England. Wales and Scotland don't actually have separate national anthems per se, they just needed to find something to sing at sporting occasions)
I always enjoyed listening to the Japanese one though. When Retreat sounded, the Japanese would one always proceed the US anthem. It was such an amazing contrast. The Japanese anthem is real somber, while the US one was incredibly upbeat in comparison.

The music was also written by Brits. Plus, there weren't actually that many American victories over the British during that conflict, which was, at best, a draw. The song doesn't actually commemorate a victory either, in the strictest sense of the word. It commemorates the bombardment of an American fort.

What is the best national anthem in the world
I have 2 rules
1. No going for your own country because you live their
2. Keep the debate civilised.
Apart from that Poll away.
BTW, IMHO it is the USSR.
1. Yellow Rose of Texas (not a naitonal anthem-we'll take your country for such insolence!). After all how many anthems are about a lady of the evening? 2. The old Soviet anthem.

Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MG27BKwjaI This should be Britains national anthem. The anthem we have now is long winded and boring.
I've played the national anthem - what I want to do is play a game where we play it for about 5 hours and see which one of our elderly audience is the first to faint.
Its because ordinance is still a word.
However, firing ordinance at someone isn't nearly as threatening as firing ordnance at someone.
Ordinance is a local law, or bill, or other form of legislation.
Ordnance is high caliber explosives.
No 'I' in ordnance.
Don't drown the enemy in legislation, drown them in explosives.
I learnt to play it when I was 7. My mum gave me a pound to go to the fair with - it was the first piece of music I could play that was four lines long.

There were enough. The naval ones were especially delicious.

Actually, it commemorates an attempt by the British to attack Baltimore, during which they were turned back after not managing to make it past Fort McHenry.
Yes, I know. That's why I said 'music'. Believe me, I know the difference even if you don't.

As delicious as that?

Actually, they weren't turned back, they turned back. After an intense bombardment and an abortive diversionary assault, the fort still stood, and so the wider attack was called off. It was a hardly a glorious rout. None of this is mentioned in the song, of course, which deals only with the bombardment. Which is what I was alluding to when I said it didn't commemorate a victory. It doesn't, it refers to the American flag still flying over the fort despite a ferocious bombardment. The final result of the battle is not discussed, except obliquely.

Kimigayo is pretty awesome, yes.
I've currently got March of the Volunteers (China's national anthem) looping in my head, but I think I prefer Kimigayo.
And, for some nationalistic bluster: there is no Swedish National Anthem. Hooray.

My favourite though, has got to be O Flower of Scotland, it's just wonderful.
The time of national hymns is a relique of the past, ladies and gentlemen. And hopefully the future is not corporate hymns, but things like the hymn of Europe, Beethoven's "Ode an die Freude" ("Ode to Joy")
Although this flashmob performance was great, here is even a better one:

I like the Philippine national anthem especially when sang at Pacquiao fights. Down here in San Diego we get the Mexican national anthem played around midnight on radio stations where the tower is based in Tijuana, Ive grown fond of the orchestrated version that is played.
