I've got most of my Vulkan conversion figured out, but I'm having issues deciding on how to do the flamer.

I was thinking of using a Grey Knight power armor arm that has the storm bolter on it and just putting a flamer barrel on it and a tank instead of ammo.

If I do that, should I position the barrel sideways or vertically? Sideways the flame tip may look off,but it's a minor detail.

Thoughts? Anyone have pics of their own Vulkan conversions?

Here are a few pics of what I'm thinking:

Or should I do:

If you are going to go with the gun the way you have it, I would go with the flamer bit aligned vertically, rather than horizontally.

Are you planning on shaving off the Inquisition/Grey Knights iconography? I think the high collar look could really work for him, as well as the runed armor.

Here's my Vulkan:

I've gotten some real flak for the length of my spear. I've also received negative commentary on using the sword of Khaine to make it, as well as using the tip of an Eldar weapon to make the flamer bit on the gauntlet. To explain the choices which might be controversial, I chose to use the Eldar bit for the flamer because I liked the idea of the flamer coming off of his glove having a blast screen to prevent the flame from sweeping inward (towards the firer). I went with the skull shoulder pad because it is codex iconography for a commander, and I like the idea of hanging the flag out there (since a skull is kind of a symbol of badassery in any language). The other shoulder pad had that big circle which I chose to fill with a Roman 18, because I wanted to imply the shoulderpad had been part of the chapter's history since before Vulkan changed them to the Salamanders. The spear is pretty honkin' big, I grant, but proportionally speaking, there have been larger polearms used in real life, so I don't think I'm too far out of line. I freehanded the scales on the cloak, since I had a guy at a tournament once claim my model wasn't WYSIWYG if the cloak didn't have scales.

In any event, I hope I was able to help, and good luck!

My army is Red Hunters which serve the inquisition, so the iconography will stay as it fits the theme. I'm using Vulkan rules but not his fluff basically. Already have the spear worked out from the GK marine halberd. Also will be using the backpack from Sevrin Loth.

It's like you didn't read my last comment at all.

This character(which I've yet to name) is NOT Vulkan. He will be using the RULES only, and thus will have a spear, a flamer and a cloak, granted it won't have scales on it.

KK. In which case, I understand the Inquisition icons, but not the Grey Knights chapter symbol. (On his chest and right knee) Were you planning on taking those off, or just having him wear Grey Knights armor seconded to the Red Hunters?

Also, you might want to edit your original post. It's pretty easy to see where someone could get confused on your project, since you ask for people to post Vulkan conversions, and call your model a Vulkan conversion, rather than a counts-as Vulkan, which is worlds apart. I would have given you a one line response ("I think the flamer bit looks better aligned vertically") if I had known what you were actually looking for. That way, neither one of us would have spent a bunch of time posting/reading a post which had nothing to do with what you were wanting. If I had been novelist, I wouldn't have read the entire thread either. (Other people's comments shouldn't affect the advice he gives you.) Not trying to be mean, but it comes across a little standoffish when you ask for advice and then get snippy with the people who try to help you.

Fortunately, we're a sweet bunch here on Dakka! Unfortunately, the Red Hunters have very little fluff in comparison with the Salamanders, so it's hard to really give you any specific advice on how to make it look in line with your chapter.

Here's what he would have to have to be 'legal': Spear, flamery weapon, bolt pistol, artificer armor, cloak (or analog). So long as you have those, you should be good. Your Red Hunters are also supposed to be one of the few Chapters that actually think of the Emperor as a god, so any kind of Ecclesiarchal theme would be good. (Steal some bits from some Sisters of Battle, maybe?)

Apologies for seeming brash. I had JUST mentioned that I was not making a Salamanders Vulkan, and was then told to put scales on it and to take off the inquisition symbols that I want.

As for the GK symbols, they fit the theme well enough, and all my non MkIII armors are GK armoring and heads.

I feel like your arm mounted heavy flamer could use a half cylinder on the side with the square opening, to cover that hole and provide a space for you to make it look like their is a fuel source for his flamer.

As for your question, I prefer the vertical nozzle. The lighter for the flamer position is very important for realistic looking effects imo.
