So I'm doing up my Daemons on special bases from SWM. I have the models, but the bases aren't here yet.
Is there anyway to paint the models without bases (which is what I usually hold the model by when I'm painting it), and then paint and glue the base on later? What could I use to hold the model?
Thanks for your help, Dakka!

Pin them in their feet and push the pins into cork.

I use blue tack reusable adhesive and empty pharmacy bottles. If the demons' feet are too small for the blue tack to stick go ahead and drill pins into them which you'll probably want to do when you put them on the swm bases anyway.

Slice a cork down the midline, half an inch into it. Slide the foot tag/whatever into the slit. Squeeze the slit tight with a wire wrap. Tadaaa! It's actually way easier than holding onto a base anyway. G' luck!

If there is a whole foods in your area, I believe they have cork recycling bins. (I may be thinking of fresh market but its one of those uppity grocery stores)
You can go in, buy some overpriced mixed nuts, then surrupticiously grab a handful of corks on the way out. And i seriously doubt any employees would actually try to stop you.

I've started to use my pinvise to hold my pinned unbased models. It isn't as wide as cork and you have better access to details on the underside of the model. But it is a little bit heavier than cork. (everything has a downside somewhere )

I bought a whole box of corks for next to nothing at the grocery store (in Canada).
Lately, I cut up some thick dowel (1.5" or so diametre), screwed and glued them to 60mm bases for added stability, and used my dremel to drill small holes into the top as needed to put the pins in the feet of whatever I'm using. The holes are a little tight the first time so I tend to push in a length of wire first so that I wont have to fight with the model when I want to remove it after painting.
For plastic models, I use pieces of sprue crazy glued to one foot (or part) of the model as seen in this awesome thread.. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/378881.page
