1.) I have been thinking of painting my IG tanks with a space theme, but I step back when I think of getting the models from for tanks from an anime I watch. (Shrugs shoulders)
2.) I am looking into the anima tactics minis to see what can be used there. I know they look good.

Most of the games we play allow players to build their own factions, but I do have a few armies that I am specifically or partly designing as proxy armies.
First of all, I'm building an army of squats to serve as imperial guard. They may be accompanied by some Warpath Forgefather miniatures which will serve as Space Marines.
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/491830.page
The other army I'm slowly building army made of Void "Junker" figures which can stand in as 40k Space Orks or Orx Mauraders (Warpath). Even though they are sci-fi greco-romans, It's remarkable how many units are directly transferable. Here's the thread I opened regarding this.
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/459148.page
Since them I've painted 50 more Legionaires (Ork boys)! Only about 100 more figures to go!
Lastly, I have a small Ventauran (Miniatures made by the Denizen company in the general likeness of Traveler "Zhodani") army that with the addition of some mech miniatures could stand in for tau, though it was not initially assembled for that purpose. http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/images-24779-20144_Ventauran%20Army.html

I am going to look into anime mech figures that are to scale with 40k to use for my tau. I want an army of anime mechs that are trying to fight everyone. But that something I can compromise with for the GW models plus outside sources (GW suits look similar to mechs from code geass and full metal panic). Automatically Appended Next Post: @boggy man, Eldar/Dark Eldar/Tau, what would you do for them? Automatically Appended Next Post: I am liking the looks of the new robotech minis from there kickstarter.

Head to Hobbylink Japan and you'll find a ton of mecha model kits in all styles.
I'm not a stickler for exacty comparative sizes but I go for the Battletech/Macross look, so most of my mecha are from those franchises in one scale or another. I've got some 1:72 valkyries, a 1:100 Glaug on the way and some 7" (scale unsure) Exosquad Robotech reissues. That said, in the "Ventauran" army you'll see a gasaraki 1/35 scale kit that looks good with 28mm and has a similar look. Automatically Appended Next Post:

@ Ironwill13791
I have no idea really. Tau have 2 vibes, Asian and shooty mech. I was thinking about a samurai theme, but it wouldn't meld well with shooty. The Eldar are hard to redesign without just going in a different space elf direction.
I was thinking of a few more though
+Sisters of battle redesigned in gothic/medieval armor. (Something like Joan of arc)
+Deffwotch orks as Black Templars (but this might be a bit visually confusing.)
+Something with Dune, maybe Dark/Blood Angels?

DE might also work for a dune fremen army or maybe house harkonnen. (They tend to be a little crazy and might fit the DE style)
And warmaschines might be a good source of armored females for a sisters army. The protectorate might even be a good source of hq figures for a normal sisters army.

Technically true, but if you want to use them as proxies with WYSIWYG, you are pretty much limited to Guard unless you want to weapon swap them for bolters, in which case they' might fly as Marines. My plan is mostly guard, but with Space Marine Allies to be able to use such characteristically squat'ish things as Thunderfire cannons (Thudd guns), Librarians (Ancestor lords) and Terminators (Squat Exo Armor). I was originally planning to also paint up a batch of Warpath Forgefathers as regular marines, but I've acquired enough squats that I've moved that to the back burner. The whole plan and progress thus far is here:

@Boggy man, For Dark Eldar, you could play off the piratical raiders theme and proxy some modeled evil pirates with the capes and hats and gak.
For Eldar, you could run with something similar to represent the Eldar corsairs only back off on the evilness for them. Automatically Appended Next Post: Blood angels can easily be bad-ass vampires in power armour (I mean they already have a successor chapter called the blood drinkers).

I have a chaos daemons army made out of all sorts of weird and creepy d&d and malifaux and hell dorado miniatures that worked out pretty good. My friend also made an ig army out of modern day us military minis with m16s and stuff counting as lasguns. (hey an assault rifle is basically an autogun, and autoguns do have the same profile as lasguns )
