A classic capcom beat em up game pair is coming to the various eShops

No more wasting quarters!

Capcom brings back battles against the mythical beasts of Dungeons & Dragons. Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara collects two old titles: Tower of Doom and Shadow of Mystara. It is set to release digitally in June on Xbox Live, PSN, Wii U's eShop and Steam for 1200MSP/$15

FEATURES

• GGPO Enhanced Online With Drop-in/Drop-out Co-Op Play: Community-trusted GGPO powers a smooth online experience that allows up to four players to drop in or out of games in progress at will.
• Classic Arcade Gameplay with a New Twist: Players can enjoy the original arcade modes or mix up the gameplay with House Rules that can completely alter the experience.
Some examples of House Rules:
- Unbreakable - Equipable items have infinite durability. Never worry about breakage again!
- Enemy Rush - Fight against time in this special Time Attack Mode. Start the game clock with 30 seconds and
increase the clock with each enemy you kill!
- Make it Rain -- Get rich quick! Enemies and chests drop tons of gold!
• Challenge System: A newly introduced RPG-like system that fits on top of the existing games and provides a myriad of challenges for players to complete. Players can level up and obtain Vault Coins to be used in the Vault.
• The Vault : A treasure trove of unlockables and gameplay loot can be purchased with Vault Coins earned via the Challenge System.
• Character Visualizer: This UI visualizer tracks which characters the players and their friends most often use. Players can utilize the tool to create a more balanced multiplayer dungeon crew, or to see which under-used characters they should try out next.
• Leaderboards & Connect ed Arcade: Players can track how they stack up against their friends through leaderboards, as well as view a full breakdown of gameplay related stats.
• Wii U Touch Screen Enhancements: Wii U players will be able to select spells and items with ease using the touch screen leading to a seamless gameplay experience.

I'm surprised DnD allowed them to use such anime-esque artstyles in the opening title card. I don't disapprove mind you, it's just that DnD elves tend to be very non-human in appearance. Sometimes to the point where I wonder why DnD says they're supposed to be attractive to all races but I digress.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

You know that game was made like 20 years ago and is just being re-released, right? Aesthetics have changed over that time.

Actually, given 3.5e and 4e, the aesthetics haven't changed TOO much for DnD pen and paper.

Unless you're saying they changed from anime-esque to what they are now?

I wasn't disagreeing with the anime part; Making a broad statement about D&D elves is what I was objecting to:

For example, the first of those two games came out in 1993.

The cartoony art of the 90s is very different from the art nowadays:

And then Elves have changed significantly over the years depending on the dominant artist from the era. You can't just say 'D&D elves are X'....

I still have the Saturn imports, but I imagine I will still pick this up.

I have been waiting a LONG time for this game.

And for a re-make of the 'Aliens vs. Predator' game.
And maybe 'Knights of the Round Table'

...

Damn, Capcom had a lot of great side-scrolling beat 'em up games...

I prefer sidescrolling platformers myself. But it's good to see 2d games be given good press like this. We need more 2d games.

Eh, looks okay. I'm not a big duck tales fan, but the actual gameplay seems nice.

Mystara was the first DnD setting I was introduced to...about 19 years ago.

Picked up a supplement called the "Hollow World" that featured Msytara being a world with an inner crust that faded and forgotten civilizations still existed.

And there were no Gods but equivalents called Immortals.

Still have all those books too...

This game is awesomely fun, especially if you use an emulator on a PC with multiple gamepads/joysticks and 3-4 friends. Unlimited quarters and hilarious, non-stop beat em up action. I have fond memories of pumping many quarters into this arcade machine back in the day.

Would definitely buy it if it had online matching.

Edit: console only, blearg!

Well, that sucks.

Never gonna play it now :/ my console isn't hooked up to the internet.

See as fun as that looks ( even if a bit of a partially re-skinned X-men and TMNT in my eyes) I'd rather have a remastered re-release of the classic Megadrive title AD&D Warriors of the Eternal Sun.

Now that I would be dancing for.
