hey Dakka...

here is my final commission...
after ten years booked solid, i'm ready to take some time for myself, return to competition, and improve my technique...

this is a mash-up of the original metal Draigo and metal Calgar...
needless to say, he weighs a ton...
it was nice to get a chance to revisit the first Calgar Grand Master i did a couple years ago, as many people thought it lacked a bit of "Grey Knightness"...
replacing Calgar's chest with a cast of Draigo's really makes a difference...
a much more imposing version of Draigo, i think...

i'm not sure why the client wanted him armed with a halberd, so i threw the sword on his hip for wysiwyg purposes...

Simply gorgeous. Looks significantly better than the standard Draigo model.

The pose works perfectly.

I really like his pose, most of the time I don't see marines that're 'tall' enough to look downwards. Good job on the painting too. I quite like the blending on the cape and the clean details.

Very impressive work man! He definitely looks amazing and that pose is just striking!
My only somewhat negative remark would be that he would look better with a sword than with the halberd.

that's why i put a sword on his hip...

i do enjoy making the one-off versions of special characters...

@Ultraknight123: no special technique used on the cape...
i just layer, and try to not jump too much between shades as i lighten...
for example, the maroon color on the cloak, banner, and tabard are basically P3 Sanguine Base mixed with an equal amount of P3 Beaten Purple...
i shaded by adding P3 Coal Black to the mix...
to start highlighting, i went with pure Sang. Base, then a layer of Sang. Base and P3 Skorne Red (at a 1-1 ratio), and finally Sang. Base, Skorne Red, and P3 Menoth White Highlight for the fine highlights...
unfortunately, photographing red is tough, and the final highlights don't pop as much in the pics...
