The description from the Dreadball Kickstarter -

Alpha Simians are large beasts from the jungle worlds of Inera, competitive aliens that enjoy the thrill that comes from a 200mph weapons-grade titanium being flung around a small enclosed arena. Alpha Simians are not the dumb brutes that they are often made out to be – the most famous among them is Toutanka, a maverick Corporation owner and star DreadBall player affectionately dumbed “Hank” – though there are those, like in every society, that simply prefer to keep things primitive and batter the opposition instead…

I could see a Merc Alpha Simian turning up at some point.

What are you basing that on? The description saying they are genetically modified apes is taken directly from the Kickstarter.

The Alpha simians are quite intelligent if they can be Dreadball starplayers and corporate tycoons as is the most famous of them.

Not thrilled if we get bad dwarfs in warpath universe.

The concept art might have been for Martians originally then but it was definitely used as the concept art for the genetically modified ape team in the end.

And at one point in the Kickstarter they were referred to as clones.

Zee are Clones.

Some Corporate sponsors haven’t got easy access to bizarre aliens or giant robots to form unusual teams, and everyone wants something weird to draw in the crowds. Farbiketek scientists began experimenting with retraining cerebrally enhanced clones mainly for their own amusement when a supply problem marooned them on Shebentor IV’s outer moon for over two years. By the time the rescue team arrived they found two teams of highly trained clones playing DreadBall and nothing more than a few bones of the original scientists. Not one to miss out on a potential profit, the commander of the rescue mission kept the teams intact and ran a league of his own on the way back to base. The rest, as they say, is history…

I wouldn't mind chaos dwarf, as long as theyre part of the forgefather faction.

Hell i'd much rather like the forge fathers to be only chaos dwarves, instead of the lame copy of squat they are now

Added on another few bucks for another Enforcer set but I have already decided I don't want it, might just keep the money there for when something I actually want shows up. Mantic really need to make that other captain as an add on, I want to give them more money but there is nothing for me to get!

@Commandercain

I'm in the same boat. The add-on's right now don't grab me at all. Outside of maybe getting more bomb dogs for counts-as flesh hounds for my dark mechanicus army nothing above the intiial level screams at me. And the value isn't quite there on the additional full "teams" for me to grab some just to get more stuff.

I might just throw in my max and walk away for 20 days and come back. It's tough not to look at it but I think that might be best for me

Actually, they aren't really squat copycats either. Squats had a pretty distinct style to them (stunty Hells Angels) that was very much not like the current Forge Father high-fantasy by way of space opera. Forge Fathers are like taking a classical high fantasy race and plopping them in to the sci-fi equivalent (space opera). I actually kind of thought this was refreshing, myself. No twists or "like X, but..."

Just a bunch of short, bearded, armoured lumps straight out of Norse myth. That said, bringing some of the Abyssal Dwarf stylings in to the Forge Father repetoire will be awesome. I can't wait to see the full art for the Helfather.

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

Think they could be interesting, as long as they don't use any bits from Kings of War for them (Forge Father with an Abyssal dwarf head being the worst route they could take with this.. ).

I think with them going for all-restic this time around means we wont be seeing a repeat of the KoW sprue reuse.

The overall helmet design looks similar but part of me is thinking it will have the carved-face look of standard FF stuff. My guess is they will probably just be porting over some of the general shapes and proportions used instead of the spikes. Which works for me, if that is what is going on.

Either it is what they will use to denote upper-class FF's or it is going to become a new common design aesthetic.

If the thing about Abbyssals being the FF overlords is true then this Helfather may be the character (and if that is a heat cannon, a very heavily armed one). I'm glad I held off getting any add-ons, because I am going to be pumping a lot in to getting FF stuff, that outline alone looks promising.

The reaction to the KoW sprue reuse means we won't be seeing a repeat of the KoW sprue reuse. I think there'll be a harder sci-fi edge to warpath stuff going forward than the first edition had.

I got the exact same reaction... How mantic would dare to turn the most honorable race on fantasy (sometimes grumpy, and not very friendly, but always honorable) into vassals of some sort of their evil cousins? Serious, if this is true, i will start to think that @Mantic dont like dwarfs in space at all... :/

Dislike dwarves entirely, so if a whole $25k stretch goal is to unlock a single dwarf model I'll be less than impressed.

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.”

I wonder if we could get Mantic to include some kind of "no large nipples" clause in this kickstarter.

I think this has a lot of potential:

looks non-slip, rollable and high quality, and much better than paper. wonder if they will through it in free or it's an add-on? maybe free at strike team? That would make me happy.

I would imagine that it'll be a stretch goal, and once it's hit it will upgrade the mat in all copies of the game.

Either that or they'll treat it like the pitch upgrades from DB, and they're an addon (to be honest, I think most people would go for it, so maybe that's a good idea).

Wow. Looking at the comments section on the KS, what some of these guys are starting to expect is just unreasonable.

I agree with having vision on 2 stretch goals. If you don't like one, you may like the other. It just keeps MORE people interested and excited. But comments like "No new factions unless they are added to Striker please" are just a bit over the top. It's not "$150 will get ya everything we make". There is no way they'd be able to actually pull that off fiscally.

Blows me away what people expect sometimes.

I don't think that's too unreasonable.

The point of the "Strike Team" level is that you get the starter for each of the factions, along with some gubbins for those factions. It's the "I'll have a strike team for each faction, so I can get the maximum amount of people interested into buying their own" level in my opinion.

To be fair the guy saying that also said he'd be cool if he could switch out factions from a second strike team for new factions.

I think that at $150 four full factions is fine. And I'm fine with paying $30-$35 for each new fully fleshed out faction additionally. Though they have to be a better buy than the enforcers which you can actually get cheaper right now buying the special model add-ons and retail enforcers....

I'm in the same boat a lot of you are. I've got money tied up in a bunch of other kickstarters that I would gladly drop if Mantic gives me something exciting to start tossing more money at.

I'm sure we'll see the eventual terrain pledges once they get something manufactured/ modeled. I wish it would happen soon though.

Hopefully we'll see those crazy buy one get one free deals towards the end to really ramp things up. We'll probably need some more factions by that point though.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!
