Read the rules! Looks very interesting, may back this one yet! Checked the updates. enforcers look great. Not very impressed with the plastic board, I would expect more from Mantic, since the models look great. Deadzone has so far impressed me much. The gaming mat looks sweet though and full colour. Back to reading the updates. So close in pledging

^ Do it! Seriously, look at the value you get already.. and then think about tripling that amount of freebies by the end of the kickstarter, since that's where it'll end up.

You absolutely cannot go wrong with a sweet spot pledge on a Mantic KS, even if you just want to hock it on ebay afterwards.

Good point Cyp, didn't think of that, I'll update my post.

@ScarletSquig
Squig could you please add this info to the frontpage and include a link to the Secret Weapon Tablescapes KS, thanks.

Heres the tablescapes link:http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1084069684/tablescapes-by-secret-weapon-miniatures

Done.

Having the board offered via both kickstarters is good, since it gives SW a chance to get more sales long after their own KS has ended.

I'm not so sure, responding in the comments for the announcement Mantic specifically mention 1.5" grid

@ Ray Bans - the tiles themselves are 12" square The grid is 1 1/2 inches.

@ Torkel - The campaign only needs a 2'x2' board We're looking at adding in multiplayer rules in later though which may need a bigger board.

1.5 x 2 = 3

You will now have the option to select "Deadzone" as a theme for your Display Board pledge or add-on item. This set will include four of our clean "Urban Streets" foundation tiles, selected by Ronnie Renton, and redesigned to make them fully compatible with the Deadzone rule system -- while still maintaining our original urban vision.

To me that screams 3" squares are in the works.

But the point of having the grid is to designate the zones. I could use 1/4" graph paper just as well, or any of the bazillion options for a 1" grid. But if it's sculpted in detail then you'll have to mark the 3" lines differently to the 1.5" lines, which completely defeats the entire purpose of having a sculpted in grid!

Now, the 1.5" grid will work perfectly for another project I've had on the back burner for years, a 3D Space Crusade board with current GW models, but for Deadzone (which it's being custom made for) it's only a half step up from worthless. Especially considering the price.

I just find it funny that they have to redesign the grid because counting 1 square is easier than counting 2.

I'm going to go in for Strike Team and a 5 pack of mats.

Looks to be the best spot for me.

it's not made by Mantic is licensed by Secret Weapon.

It's a 1.5" grid, with every second line wide than the first to denote 3". nice way of doing it.

It's not about the "difficulty" of counting an extra square, but that they teamed up to release an official product that is not actually meant for the system. The extra lines are an absolute eyesore. I realize it's not a big deal to some, but to my OCD arse it's the visual equivelant to nails on the chalkboard, and having to either paint the lines seperate colors or count over from the edges every frakking time you move anything is just a PITA, certainly nothing I'm willing to spend money on.

But a 3" grid changes everything, and is completely worth the price. We're already GETTING a nice quality mat, the point of the plastic board is to be a step beyond that. Double the lines is not a step beyond, it's a terrible, horrible, gaudy step backwards. The extra lines do nothing for the game, they look worse, and it'll take more work to get around them whether that's in paint or in counting squares during play.

Yes, it will have a grid, but it will also have an urban streets theme to it. Did you read the quote from Secret Weapon that I posted above?

Secret Weapon wrote:We have officially partnered with Mantic Games to offer a four tile, 2x2' Display Board option for their sci-fi skirmish game: Deadzone.

Edit: Oh, you're just concerned about the size of the grid. Not really interested in that discussion, so I'll bow out

I did, did you miss where I quoted directly from Mantic specifically stating 1.5" tiles? If that's an error, or they change it to 3", then I'm arguing over nothing. If the quote from Mantic is true, then it's a wasted opportunity and I'd rather make my own board than pay for a sub-par "premium" product, ESPECIALLY if it's being remade specifically for Deadzone.

Edit: was typing while you were editing, yes I'm specifically talking about the size of the grid. SW tiles look awesome and they're a fantastic deal for the price, but the gaps between the tiles forming a grid pattern on the table were already a personal dealbreaker for general gaming (stupid OCD, ruining all the almost-pretty things!). Here with Deadzone, you have a PERFECT opportunity to have the grid from the space between tiles hidden in with the actual grid and play into the mechanics of the game, and then they are supposedly adding MORE godawful lines than are necessary. I just don't understand why they'd do that, most people that would want a fully formed 3D board to paint up are MORE concerned with how the table looks, not less. I would have expected more effort to hide the grid, not make it worse. It just completely boggles my brain.

Is that so?

My biggest problem with the Secret Weapon Urban Cookie Collective* is that it has too many roads and not enough base 'foundation' tiles. Putting a set of them together would look more like a racetrack than an urban grid. This could solve that problem... hmm... I'll need to think on it.

*Christ! How's that for an obscure reference! Surprised even myself there.

I copypasta'd it from the Kickstarter page, so it so

Like you said, the road tiles would have limited where you could place the buildings, so the "foundation" tiles are the way to go.

I hope they can make a preview image of them... I'm sure Secret Weapon will have their hands full with this being the last week of their kickstarter, but if the tiles look really good I think this could give them quite a boost!

Personally, I think the 1,5" grid is a really bad idea, confusing and time consuming can lead to massive time waste and dissatisfaction during actual gameplay.

Except if they somehow sufficiently texture it so it can be distinguishable from a distance, like having the edge of each 3x3 grid tiles marked with some form of texture, but this is not evident in the mockup pics.

Thanks Black Nexus, thought it was Mantic making the plastic board. Looks really unimpressive compared to the mat. Which seems a step backwards. Also I thought Mantics focus was their awesome terrain and digging deep into that. Would like to see some more work done on their project. Before flogging another project. Going to hold off pledging for now a see how things pan out. But it looks like I am going pledge 90% near the end of the Kickstarter, if I see more stuff from their own kickstarter

the board add-on is a great way of getting through stretch goals which ultimately helps the deadzone kickstarter. cross promotion is also good for KS, look what Kingdom death did for myth.

I've heard scenery add-ons and pledge level is coming this week. personally can't wait.

what would be your ultimate scenery pledge level?

This is what I am looking for. A solid tight rule set, so far looks good. Hopefully something more concrete before the end. Great models, Deadzone models look great and of course Deadzone Scenary. My ulitmate pledge? Depends on all three. I'm looking at the 150 dollars. But if the rules are solid and enough playability I would drop a whole load more. I am a little dubious on cross promotions on all kick starters with the rare exception of a few have massive delays. I don't mind waiting a few days or a week or two. But waiting for months is not my thing and cross promotion doubles that chance in my eyes. I hope i am wrong. Still waiting for my sedition wars wave 2 and other projects I have backed....

Well the Teraton and Sorok are the only troopers that are not in pair so far, I would expect the Sorok to be alt posed, but IIRC we have seen two Teraton sculpts at Salute.

Are both the Teratons for the Rebs? I'd like a Merc personally that I could used with the enforcers.
