Subject: Achtung! Cthulhu Kickstarter - Needs CoC, SW or Fate - opinions?

As seen here:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/modiphius/achtung-cthulhu-the-ww2-keepers-and-investigators
I think you'll also need a copy of either Call of Cthulhu, Savage Worlds of Fate to use as your 'core' rule book.
Being completely unfamiliar with all of those, I need help!
Opinions on those 3 game systems - which one is the 'best', the most fun?
Thanks!

No real experiance with Savage worlds, but both CoC and Fate are very fun indeed!
Call of Cthulhu is a little more "numbers heavy", but has the rules for the mythos stuff already in which will give you a bit more "extra" for your Achtung! games, as well as help in case acthung gets you wanting to play some more general CoC. Basically it plays a lot along the lines of Rogue trader, but you can make unskilled attempts at anything and death is the easy way out. A lot of fun though with the constant threat and investigatory shenanigans.
Fate is a lot more casual and the characters personally are a lot more "safe". If i recall uses the same dice mechanic for anything you do. You will need a set of Fudge dice though.
Its an older version, but for Fate this may help you out to see what its like

I was leaning towards Call of Cthulhu to begin with... I think I'll stick with that thought...
Thanks! Automatically Appended Next Post: Of course, Call of Cthulhu 7th edition might be getting released this year too!

I knowww, tbh the main draw by the looks of it is fixing the horrible income system so you wont get a hobo with more money than a politician (Though in fairness i rule it as they can have one or two "free" items now and then, and if its big they wont get anything for a long while. So the incomes still a little bit of a none issue)
Anyway hope you enjoy! if your interested im working on a ww2 mini campaign for CoC anyway and can share the files if you want something quick to run while your waiting for your copy.

I will admit it looks interesting, but in honesty extra source books like that never really appealed to me. Rules needed yes, but things like that its not hard to come up with your own stuff for, and tbh with premade scenarios i actually have trouble cutting up whats for me and whats for the players >> i mean theyd make great stories im sure, but not for the price they want for what i'd actually use of them that i couldnt just rule myself using the basic book.

Heya!
Welcome aboard - though I suspect you've been around for a bit...
So...
What game system is the best fit for Achtung!?
I'm guessing Call of Cthulhu, but with 7th edition looming...I'm curious as to your favorite?

Well it does depend on the style of game you like - Savage Worlds rewards the use of minis or makes it very easy to use, it's more fun, pulpy and smash your way in, Call of Cthulhu is darker, very dangerous for characters, combat is deadly and you can expect to go insane. FATE is light, airy, story telling orientated rather than crunchy. I like things in all of them to be honest

From that description, it looks as if I'd prefer the Savage Worlds version!
I'm looking for a fun, pulpy, smash our way in version of Weird War II and Cthulhu, by way of channeling Raiders of the Lost Ark - it sounds like that is what I'd get with the Savage Worlds version!
Thanks for answering questions here - I'm heading on over to back at "Campaign Keeper" level!
I only wish I was aware of this one a little earlier, as I would have had myself drawn in as a character for the Allies too! Automatically Appended Next Post: OK!
I think I'll be in for a KEEPER OF TERRORS level with the ONE WAR add on.
Does that mean my shipping (I'm in the USA) will be £21?
Also... when will we find out how much that awesome messenger bag will cost?!?

As I mentioned in the news thread (before I saw this one), I'm starting my group off with Savage Worlds as I liked the pulpy feel to the system, plus it was really cheap to buy the core rules.
Savage Worlds also has a number of other settings that are good for nicking bits from, such as Deadlands, Deadlands Noir and Weird War 2
Oh. Bit of self promotion to try and prod me along... I've started trying to pull together some plot ideas and useful resources for 1940s mythos adventures. Eventually it'll have notes from my games as well; assuming we last more than a couple of sessions as the players are a fickle lot
