I have been on about starting a 30k legion list since the release of Betrayal, so here is a sneak peek of the first mini as it nears completion. I have wanted to start an Imperial Fist army for some time but yellow is a color that can be unforgiving so i wanted to hold off until i was ready.

So first up is my beta test model









here we have my first couple of minis for the actual army, still very much WIP









Comments welcome, also critiques especially if you have experience with yellow! This is the first post of a project that will span quite a long time, i have a couple of other projects on my to do list. but this is the baby that will be getting my full attention.

Another small update,
I got my hands on an airbrush not to long ago and I am what you would call an amateur with it, but I really like the effect I able to achieve with it.

The red helmet is going to be the way I signify the sergeant, I really like the way it looks who knows maybe I make it a theme across the whole army.

What's everyone's take on that idea?

keep it rare, it will be more significant that way.

hmm is that suppose to be blood? should make it fresh, by making it glossy, or dry by deepening it.

Supposed to be blood, I got to admit I am hanging a lot out there with these guys. I am trying a bunch of new techniques for me and trying not to mess the whole project up. Thanks for the input I will take a look after work and see about fixing it!

they do look great so your work is paying off. Just little bits here and there.

Update time again!

just some tidy up work and wanted to get feedback on the addition of black to the knee pads. A little too much yellow, i felt like they could use something to break them up a bit










below is some work on the Sergeant's helm







The white stripe was real tough to do in him, i still have work to do to get it right but that's about it for the helm.

That helmet made my jaw drop. Well done. The shading is well executed. The black is also a good touch. My suggestion, make the hands black to, with just the knees it seems to little.

@cormadepanda. Thank you for the advice and encouraging words. I am torn to adding it to the backpack and now the hands!!!

So my DakkaDakka brethren,
Not allot of painting since my last update, well thats a lie but i have been working on my Dark Vengeance minis and they don't belong on this thread, i also made a compromise with the wife... chill out on the spending on GW/Forge World and i could get a new car. Enter my new 2013 Ford Focus ST. so as you can imagine i have spent some time on the road getting to know my new ride. and less time with a brush and paint in/on my hands.

So i have been doing some major thinking about my legion and a little about there story and I want to run a few ideas by you folks.

1. Fluffy list. This force I am going to be making I kind of want to show 2 sides of the legion. The obligatory siege of he palace on terra. The other hat I want the list to wear comes from the cover art of Shadows of treachery. And yes that means boarding shields and Mk III lots of them! And if that wasn't enough I would like to in some form or fashion depict the future successor chapters in the force. Obviously a pure infantry list would get spanked in 30k.

2. beat up. These fists will look like they have gone to hell and back and asked for seconds, but I also plan on having my Mk IV looking a little better off to show its newish war gear.

3. individuality. I like to view legion marines as having grater leeway when it comes to decoration than codex adherent chapter. But I still need to maintain to the truth that the legions were military organisations and there is a manner of uniformity I must adhere to.

4. I know Space Marines are super human and can do a ton of stuff i want to paint them up in a manner that shows some kind of chain of command, in my mind i cant picture any Sergeant worth his Salt not establishing a clear chain of command. Lets face it these fellows live to fight war and they will know no other existence only death sees an end to active duty or the hull of a dreadnought. i will paint up a Sergeant with head crest and a red helm w/white stripe, Assistant Squad Leader/1st Fire team leader with red helm and white stripe, then the 3rd and 4th fire team leaders in yellow helm with white stripe, then the regular marines with plain old yellow lids.

just a quick update I'm the group picture almost got my first group of 5 done, now the two additions here I painted aftr a lengthy drinking session so results may vary!









As you can see I still need to wash the "iron" armor and touchup work the bases are my attempt at city ruins to go with the zuzzy mat I am about to buy

Next up are some pictures of terrain I have put together for when I play around the house its still WIP but I like the way it holds together and looks in one picture you will see I attached 90 degree bits of sprue to help brace it once its ready to be glued

Good stuff. Yellows are turning out well and most of the battle damage/weathering is fantastic.

Your metals could use a bit more depth. Consider trying a green wash followed by a dark brown wash on gold and silver. It helps eliminate shine and gives more depth. It will also make the metals fit with the rest of the weathering.

If you haven't given up on blood splatters try Tamiya Clear Red. I just started using this stuff and it is fantastic (it smells awful when applying though).

Looking forward to seeing more.

Man, your guys are really beat up. They look like they've walked through hell and survived. Very exemplar of the Space Marine lore. Theae guys are practically invincible.

When I think about siege warfare and the battle of Terra all I can see on both sides of the fight is shrapnel, fire, smoke, energy weapon discharge and rad weapons that have effects that are beyond our own compensation. The beat up look is all I can envision for those present at the Terra. Plus in my mind the fists are too stubborn to back away from a fight once engaged, regardless of how poor their wargear looks/functions

Thanks for the kind words! It is a base of white with ghost tint "plasma fluid" over the top of it. I like the badger air gost tint range but you have to be careful as it has quite a shine once dry
