I love the little shout out to the Titan comic he wrote in Warhammer Monthly, 1999 or so, with Princeps Ervin Hekate and Imperius Dictatio.

Sums up the power and godhood the princeps must feel in their titans.

It is really good (although I think Helsreach is even better) but for me it ends a bit aprubtly without really finishing the story?

I was 50/50 on Titanicus,
The titan bits were great but it took a long time in getting to it.
The two separate imperial guard/pdf units running about made it confusing, I kept getting them and their missions mixed up.

Loved it. Made me wish for a mechanicus line for 40k (imagine all the customization for the skitarii.... GL, HB, power weapons... it would be amazing)

Yeah those story lines kept getting in the way of the titans battles. Though for me, the mechanicus background and mechanicus humour makes up for the confusion. Good read +1

Easily one of the better BL books out there. If you have an itch for full-scale 40k combat, by all means pull the trigger on Titanicus.

I like how it portrayed the Imperium as properly advanced. There's actual advanced technology in that book, it was so refreshing.

It really is this that gets me with Titanicus. It's not just the Titans, it's how the entire scale of the battlefield is put into perspective.

Yeah. It was spoiled by the struggle for the PDF and the tank crew though... Helped give a "human" perspective to the epic scale of the titans but still, got in the way of some good titan-on-titan action.

This. Anyone else and that line would have come off as unintentionally comedic, as if Legio Invicta were popping out for an evening stroll, but Abnett manages to make it seem properly epic. I was super pissed off when I went looking for my bought-on-day-of-release hardback copy and found I'd somehow managed to lose it(despite it only ever being either on my bedside table or my bookshelves to my memory, bah), I keep meaning to order another copy.

Only issues I had with it were 'noosphere', it's just such an un-40k word. It's a pretty stupid word, in general.
That and one legion of titans taking out three times their number. Maybe Invictus just rocks.
Also, Sci-fi writers have no sense of scale; Orestes is a Forge World, but it has a totality of three hive cities, only one of which makes things. What?

You guys do realize that noosphere is actually a word, right? It wasn't made up for 40K. It's the sum total of all your perceptions, plus the intellect of the human mind to process those perceptions as well as project thought towards possibilities, future actions, and all of that sort of thing.
Some definitions of noosphere (used in other aspects of science and philosophy) consider it the sum total of human culture, as perceived by the members of it.
... but, yes, when the line "We will walk upon Orestes" comes out, it has the appropriate drama and grimdark weight behind it, it makes you realize that the gak has just got real.

Well bugger, I decided to go hunting for a replacement copy today only to find it's out of print, and the prices being asked for new copies is ludicrous. What is it with Black Library? I can walk into Waterstones and buy random Doctor Who books that were first published in the 80's, but BL can't even manage to keep a book in print for five sodding years.

It's noted as not only a new Forge World but also a semi-forge world.
It's half Mechanicus and half Imperial. It's likely the other two hive cities were used purely as places for workers to live and also for processing raw materials/cargo.
A single hive city can create vast amounts of weapons and ammunition on its own at any rate.

I am aware noosphere is a real word, but it's not a good one or a very 40k-ish one, and I said so in the above post.
Having three cities on a PLANET is pretty absurd... it's like if Earth only had three cities, and the rest was just wilderness. Considering the amount of effort going into Terraforming, it's colonisation fail.
