Why are there marines? I kept expecting marines to show up at some point, yet there isn't a single one in the entire book. Not that I missed them, it is just odd to have them on the cover.
Same thing happened to me.
This book was one of my first BL books and it was glorious the epic battles between titans and the ammount of lore we get about the Adeptus Mechanicus, it really was a rare book with no SPEESH MAREENS.
P.S: The book's chapter numbers in binary code was such a good and fluffy detail

True enough, hes just a legend that bloke.
I say this because I decided to waste some more money last week and bought Salvations Reach and the long ignored Brotherhood of the snake.
I finished them both yesterday, and absolutely loved them, having ignored many of his recently thanks to the HH. I kinda like ADB, and I think GMc is merely half decent, but they are not even close, the man is an absolute genius, the best writer on BLs books by a fething mile.

Ah, that'll be the GW marketing strategy at play. I believe it's called; "Space Marine ALL OF THE THINGS!!!"

the problem is Titans make SM seems pretty superfluous, they don't contribute much to an engine war at all.

I'd imagine if there was an engine war with SM involved the SM would spend their time either tracking the titans for their titans or they'd be hunting the smaller titans.
But no they do kinda lose their effect against titans...

Isn't the front cover an old Epic image?

Read Helsreach - Astartes can be very useful when Titans loose or advance beyond their supporting Skittarii and get boarded - which is a risk against Orks, Tryanids, and Chaos - especially the big Titans like Emperor class. I would imagine the reverse is true

With what? Multi-Melta Land-speeders?
They have no effective counters to Titans other than TH/ SS squads. Which is a silly way to throw away your Veterans.

Guard Duty in a Titan's hold isn't quite a good use of Astartes. The idea of boarding a Titan is pretty daft anyway, considering how fast it moves. Imperator class engines have their own on-board troops to repel boarders.

Obviously you have not read the book........
The Astartes are not on guard duty - they respond to the Titan in distress when her own Skitarrii inside are being overwelmed and she left her other support infantry behind. The Ork have ambushed the Imperator in a siege situation.
Boarding a Titan is carried out a number of times in BL fluff and does make perfect sense for elite shock troops like Astartes.

So the Astartes are useful for rescuing / killing a Titan whose Princeps fethed up.
I would hope that some of the holiest Mechanicus adepts would not feth up very much, especially granted a vehicle with the expense of a Titan.

Hubris has a lot to answer for. people make mistakes when they underestimate their enemies.

Good book although the grimdark character abuse was a little wearing.
I prefer Mechanicus and Priests of Mars for their AM background.
I'm a noosphere fan myself. It actually fleshes out why the magi are different to the common man. In the same way that SMs are transhuman so the AM are divergent because the really d see things soooo differently. Looking forward to Priests of Mars 2 soon.
Still Titanicus is a good book
