Actually, I'm dreading the new Tau book. From a competetive standpoint Tau have always been good vs. Nids, even if bad over all. Now, Tau will almost certainly improve, and I'm not looking forward to the best Alpha Strike army in the game getting better!

I've found a single Venomthrope really helps against that kind of issue. Conga-line your gaunt broods so one is within 6" of it, and try to strategically place it near the more vulnerable larger models. 5+ cover saves on turn 1 even for models in the open is pretty useful against alpha strikes.

In all honesty I'm just excited to see them on the table again. I am sick and tired of all these Mother F*** Space Marines on my Mother F*** gaming tables. A lot of the guys at my FLGS are going to start Tau, and in all honesty I think this will be a good thing.

This. This so much. The Tau appeal to my anime said so much, and I have always loved them on the inside (when I discovered 40k through Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, I fell in love with the Tau play-style) ever since I got into 40k. The way the codex was written just left me with a bad taste in current editions though, so I am really hoping the update will make them something I want to pick up again

lol, the Tau are getting a new codex in April. GW has revealed this already.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. While I will not be starting a Tau army, I hope that many people do indeed start one. It'd be nice to see something other than Imperial armies on the board again, as believe it or not my Grey Knights fair worst against anything not Imperial.

Two things.

1. They're getting a codex in April. It's in the new White Dwarf.

2. All armies are getting repowered in their 6th edition codices. You'll probably find your favorite chesselists will get depowered in their next books too.

ANYWAY, back on topic
I really love the fact tau are getting updated because now GW has been updating armies faster, weve had (soon 5) 6th edition armies in 8ish months. Step in the right direction

All considering there are rumors of FWs getting Overwatch at full BS, having adjacent units within 6" being able to ALSO Overwatch the charging enemy, AND being able to move D6 AFTER they Overwatch... I can see the new Tau being a completely Melee Immune army... What is the regular charge range these days? Now make it D6 more lol and if you dont make it... well, better luck next turn if you havent been swept =/

The question was about our stores reaction. Really no one new is showing an interest in owning them but as some have said, many have had Tau armies and sold them almost as quickly. there are musty collection of infrequently used models whose owners have always loved the models.

I am one who has played Tau competitively as well as casually and really enjoyed them. they were my first army. But even I have to admit that at tourneys, my other armies have been more up to the new metas than Tau. I still get my wins, but I can easily tell you that Sisters of Battle have donme the majority of winning for me as the 6th Edition has dawned.

So perhaps now my Tau can stop living in the shadows of newer codex's and join them. The true Tau beleivers like me have waited a long time.

i'd say most are in Anticipation to see if their army (or potential new one) isn't like several Codex passed. people are waiting to see what is new and/or obsolete etc. i Eagerly await Kroot. i don't really tbh really like the Tau Design (but battlesuits are another matter entirely). there is a Niche Market that appeals to Mecha-Anime fans which also probably didn't have much interest built up when the first 3 waves of tau were released. not quite sure the exact reasoning. Uber Suit is a One word answer in short.

Anytime an Older army gets an update, it's going to garner a lot of attention.

While not the revamp the Dark Eldar, or Necrons received, it's still pretty big since it is the second oldest army.

I'm personally looking forward to seeing Tau more often. I have a buddy that plays them, and I'm sure he'll be happy an update.

well i am actualy switching to Tau myself when the new book is out, but it was more convenient as i been thinking of skipping over to Tau for a while since i feel the same with the Tyranids that they are outdated, so i wanted to try something else.

And funny enough when i started to look into Tau, a new codex were just around the corner :O

Because many players (myself included) have been interested or tried them. But the idea of tau and the reality dont match up in play.

Maybe now they will, thats exiting.

I can easily see why this new Tau update is so anticipated; they SORELY need it. The optimist in me hopes that it'll be alright, but knowing GW's recent track-record, I'm afraid of so much. Gutted fluff, cheesy rules, or just throwing the fanbase a bone.

While I'm not as upset about seeing Space Marines, I am excited to see more Xenos getting updated. I'm looking forward to see what they get, as we have a Tau player that's excited to be getting an update to his army. I'm also hopeful that the Eldar rumors for later this year pan out.

As for the OP's question, Why so much anticipation over Tau?

1. Some people love the look of the army and their vehicles. They're very different from other armies, but still fit into the 40k's overall theme.
2. They're (arguably) the shootiest race getting an update for the (arguably) shootiest edition of 40k.
3. Any Xenos getting any updates is a good thing for 40k! Diversity!

I don't know, the 6th edition books have been really nice and balanced so far. People have claimed them to be bad, but that's because we are all used to cheesy, over-the-top, OP updates that we forgot what actual balance feels and looks like.

I'm pretty confident, the Tau don't have a whole lot of possible rule options that can make them cheesy or OP. The worst they could do is butcher some fluff and make markerlights/suits incredibly cheap

We can all hope. I've only played two out of my five games in 6th, so I can't really say for sure. One of those was against a BT player of mostly similar skill, from whom I secured a rough victory, the other of whom was playing Footdar like a freaking genius and completely slaughtered me.

It seems about the same. Difference is that people have been crying that Tau, being a 4th edition codex, hasn't been "viable" for a very long time and have been complaining that GW is dragging its feet, having updated Space Marines and Tyranids out of rotation.

Maknly its the fanboys finally having their day that a ridiculously shooty army that does well will finally get the Necron OP treatment. Cue the screams when it actually comes out as a "overly balanced book".

Well there's the discrepancy. If you're going to powercreep, at least powercreep everything. If you're going to put out a more balanced book, make sure that they're all balanced.

It appears that Vetock has written the codex. If its like the DA codex, we will see a solid book but nothing that will be really exiting. Well i hope the codex will have some punch to keep up with the competitive armies.

At the very least, we can hope they'll be up to date. To be honest, I'd much rather have a mediocre codex that's up to date than bullgak that's two editions old.

Is your Dark Angels codex different than mine?

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

The DA codex is very good. I don't play DA, but I can see a number of builds that would be fun and effective.
