so last night my friends and I were playing a odd 60pnt game with 2 players on each side with 30pts a peace. on my team was my khador with strakkov and my new colossal and my roomies cryx with death jack. up against another cryx and retribution.
so we were marching up to a wall of bain thralls and mage hunter strike force and it was looking grim. my partner was about to give up when i decied to just be silly and tolk her to stack up focus on deathjack (it can hold 5 and it had 3 souls from b4) i then walked up with conquest and proceeded to do a double handed throw at the retributiong caster (no idea who some chick with a stick). i rolled max distance and no deviation. but it could only b thrown 9 inches so it landed on 4 mage hunters killing them and damaging the deathjack (who just got the souls anyway and repaid to full lol) she then activated deathjack, spent a focus to stand up, and then trampled through 3 more using their souls to repair the free strikes against him. so he just trampled right up to the caster and then used the remaining 6 focus to murder the living hell out of her and then half way killing the retribution battle engine she was next to (sort of an epic game had a cryx battle engine out to lol)
was this leagal? did we do anything wrong? it won us the game and every one was on the floor laughing at the ballsy craziness of it. i just want to make shur we did that right. and so i can to it again lol
mmm the death cannon lol

Two things:
You can only spend a focus to shake effects during the control phase. So the DJ would have had to forfeit either its move or attack actions to stand up.
A knocked down model can not stand up if it was knocked down during its controller's turn. So if you were both activating your models at the same time then the DJ would need to wait until your next turn to stand up (p63).

Leo has it correct. Currently, only 2 factions can legally pull something like this off, Mercs(4 Star) and Minions(Blindwater), and Mercs require 18 points to do it.

Throwing friendlies for charge distance used to be a time honored thing in MK1, and tricks like the 'Flying Drakhun' abounded. They mostly cut down on those shenannigans in Mk2, as now most abilities that allow you to stand up don't work on people knocked down that turn, and even if you're immune to knock down, being thrown or slammed causes you to lose either your movement or attack. The only effects that get around that are eIrusks feat, the Wrasslers animus for Blindwater and Darius's Crane.

Another point aswell. As souls are converted to focus at the start of allocation they count as part of the maximum allocation allowance of 3. So with 3 souls they would be converted to focus you could not allocate as allocation cannot take you past 3 focus and then you gain 2 from the skulls of hate as this is resolved after focus allocation.
So you can normally have 5 focus on Deathjack, 3 from allocation and 2 from the skulls of hate. If you had 3 souls then the max would still be 5 as you would not be able to allocate any additional focus to it. If you had five souls then you could have 7 focus but would still not be able to allocate any additional.

I could be wrong, but IIRC DJ's souls do not convert over to focus the following turn.

Cull Soul - This model gains one soul token for each living enemy model destroyed within 2˝ of it. When this model replenishes
its focus during your next Control Phase, replace each soul token on it with 1 focus point.

oooo i see. well deathjack is still super scary lol. now i have a question: If i take stracove or Irusk and cast superiority on one of my "smaller" jacks and then use conquest to throw them. it says that they cant be knocked down so would this tactic work with my other jacks?

No.
The rules specify that if a model was thrown and activates later in the same turn, it still needs to forfeit is movement or action, even if it can't be knocked down.

Actually it states that if the model was knocked down during the controller's turn, it can't stand back up until the NEXT turn. (Prime, p64, first paragraph)

We are talking about models that are immune to knock down.

i see i see, thank you. so hear is my plan: take conquest, take devastator, throw devastator with superiority it lands in the middle of ... stuff who cares its armor 25 so not much bothering (even the throw). if its a lonely unit go ahead and explode as long as you are sure not much can run up and eat u. it its a bunch of jacks or a caster, sit there and be annoying. you are sacrificing your movement so just explode lol

With eIrusk, you can also just have your conquest throw a jack (no one that he's bonded or that can't be knocked down though! Strangely, this only works if the jack can actually be knocked down), and then feat so it can stand up again without having to sacrifice anything. It's the eIrusk speed ball, and he's one of the very few casters who can do that sort of things.

A similar trick works with Circle, throwing a Wold Guardian into the enemy, having it forfeit it's movement to remain standing, then using it's ram fists to hit enemies back 1" and advance 1". Not as good a eIrusk though

What about a combo of 2 Dire Troll Maulers with Madrak?
Madrak puts Sure Foot on Mauler B, casts Carnage, then pops his feat.
Mauler A uses his animus of Rage (+3 STR) on himself(further throw distance) and Mauler B(more damage), then double-hand throws him into the middle of a crowd.
Mauler B forfeits his movement and starts eating the models (assuming they are living) With every kill, he gets a 1" move and a free attack - moving him ever closer to that caster, and healing himself along the way (again, provided the models he is walking through are alive).
Automatically Appended Next Post: This strategy would not use any of Mauler B's 5 fury allotment either, so he would be fully capable of taking out just about anything that might be in the way. Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, and also, if he hit with his first two attacks, he could grab something nearby and throw it at the enemy caster for free.
I believe this would be a pretty hilarious thing to do to somebody not expecting it.

A beast can only cast its own Animis once. No casting it multiple times.
But aside from that it would work.

Madrak doesn't have nearly enough Fury for that - you'd need to team him with a runeshaper at least.
One thing you CAN do is throw a model that is already knocked down in your opponent's turn, and then make it get up (or even use Fell Call Reveille) . Because it was knocked down in your opponents turn, it can't be knocked down in your turn and can get up in your turn. =D

Still no
pg63 - A model cannot be knocked down while it is knocked down
pg54 - If a thrown model cannot be knocked down it must still forfeit its action or movement if it activates later in a turn in which it was thrown.
Clarifying
It can get up, but it must still forfeit either movement or action
