Here's my first batch of stuff for Infinity. It took me a while to decide where I was going with these. I made one start and didn't like where it was going. I made a change and progress was made rapidly. This was also my first go with oil washes. I need to refine the process a little more. I like the result when it works, but I think both my gloss coat wasn't as good as it could have been, and I made the wash just slightly too thick. Still though... it's a good start.

I like the scheme you have chosen for these guys (and girls). The force has a uniformity to it from the limited palette, but still enough colours in there to make each model interesting. I would suggest that you need to add some more depth to the skin tones, with either more highlighting or a different technique for painting darker skin. How do you like painting Infinity minis compared to 40K? I am finding them far more challenging ;-)

Way more challenging than 40K. They are proving to be some of the most challenging models I have ever painted. With them is really is about balance of knowing when enough is enough, and getting the right colors. I have painted 40K for so long and gotten into the grimdark mindset that it is kind of hard snapping out of that and realising that this is a bright and optimistic future that the game resides in. The fact that they are true 28mm and therefore smaller also makes a difference in their complexity. Finally... their staff painter is so damned good, that I finally had to accept and come to the conclusion that my stuff won't look that good. It is reminescient of the glory days of looking at eavy metal photo spreads and just being stunned by them before the eavy metal team started getting marginalized. My feelings exactly
When I picked up my first Yu Jing figures and compared them to the website pics I couldn't believe the painting standard. They are so small! It really makes me look back at the 40K range with a more critical eye.
The typical 40K skin tones are pale, which doesn't really fit the style of your force here. If I find a tutorial on painting more realistic olive/tanned skin I'll send you a PM.
Good luck and keep posting

Nice to see more haqq in the showcase! You have a nice cohesive looking group there. Have you thought about adding a wash to the base as they looks a bit plain compared to the models? And the level of detail on the models is quite a bit different to 40k. I can get the base colours done pretty quickly but then end up spending ages picking out all the belt buckles and zips etc etc! Sometimes i wish they would make them slightly less detailed!

I share these thoughts exactly. Great work though, looking really good. I like the effect you're getting with those oil washes. And totally agree with Dutch about the limited palette. It has always been my opinion that a really limited palette works really really well no matter what models/army/gang/game system you're painting. Keep up the good work.
