So with all the hype (the reading of "Manliest tank in the universe" and a CAAT battle with purplefood) I wanted to know where the meme came from and if the CAAT is truly a good enough vehicle to warrant purchase?

It's pretty decent but it's not a miracle worker, I'd use it for suiciding melta/plasma vet squads into a far larger shinier target...
Incidentally I have 3. Not because they're useful but because feth your expectations of sanity. I also take deathstrikes for funsies. Or i did when I still played...

Roughriders, Penal Legionnaires, Vet squads...
I'm not entirely sure but it may be possible to load them up with those rather smexy looking Rapier Laser Destroyers...

No riders, and not enough guard for the penal legionnaires. I do however like the thoughts of marbo+Strakken CCS with melta and a pair of catachean flamervets... as for the laser destroyers it would make no sense... mount it on top however....

Well you can get the teeny tiny portable chappies...
They're more fun than a barrel of monkey on Sunday.
Essentially what you want is a unit you can chuck out that will either distract the enemy or wipe the nearest ones away in one go.

And I point you to marbo. He will jump out and go one way, wreck some

with his demopack and stand there with a big target on his back.... Plus he takes 1 spot not like 10 for the cyclopse demo vehicles... and hes Marbo. he's the CAAT of foot soldiers (in IG and not including yarrick)

As someone who saw the birth of the meme, I also plan on buying a CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT at some point in the future.

In retrospect it's a pretty decent unit, and a nice model, it'll be the centerpiece of my expanding guard (and eventually, my tau)

Yeah but you can get 5 of those Cyclopsesesesesessss....
Incidentally, you could also just pack it with SWS with demo packs. Should give you around 24 (?) demo charges...

so any more thoughts as to what deathstar I should stick in the deathstar? I like the demo sws idea, being able to crack apart the foundation of the enemy.

Yeah... I'll be the guy that scatters the demo pack back into the CAAT gets a 12"blast radius for the exploded result, then the disembarking troops (only allowed 2 squads at a time so the destroyed is the only way to get em all out) will demo pack everything then the final will scatter ontop of them all and then there will be nothing. But Marbo. Because he's marbo.

but it's guard. They are expendable. Besides in a apoc game big enough to warrant me bringing my IG it'll be about 7-8k per side and at worst I'll kill 1k of my own troops and mor of the enemies if I can help it

I generally just try to get everything killed.
