Stay back, orbital cleansing in progress.
On topic: I don't mind getting rolled into Vanilla as long as they do it properly. It's just that I don't trust them to do it properly.
EDIT: Can't find Helbrecht, Grimaldus, Sword Brethren, the Upgrade Kit OR the Emperor's Champion by searching their page. Doesn't look good.

As a Black Templar fan (in fact, they were the first faction I played as in the TT), I really, really hope they end up getting rolled into an SM book. 10 pages of lore and Black Templar specific rules (points reduction for scouts and composition tweaking to allow taking them as hordes, rage/crusader/furious charge on everything, rules for the emperor's champion) which receives an update every new edition with the rest of the Space Marine dex, instead of waiting half a decade?
Yes, yes please!

I think that BT getting rolled into the SM codex would actually do them a favour as BlaxicanX said.
- Access to all the units in the SM codex (except Librarians and Devastators I would imagine)
- Combat Tactics (although this could be replaced with BT specific Chapter Tactics - most likely by taking Helbrecht)
- Updates to the codex every edition instead of every decade
I am sure there are lots more benefits but I am not too familiar with the marine codex so not sure on what they would be.
One thing I would like to see back in the SM codex (and others that have widely recognised sub factions such as Eldar and Guard) would be the doctrines/traits etc.
As long as they are done sensibly, they are great way of customising armies without relying on special characters. I am sure many players are bored of seeing Vulkan, Khan, Shrike or countless other special characters (including Eldrad I am sure) in every army of their race just because they say they want to represent a particular sub faction (usually it is because that character has awesome rules).

I would be a bit surprised if BT were rolled into C:SM, as they are pretty much tied with Space Wolves for the least codex-compliant chapters out there. Fluff-wise, I see the main marine codex as "these chapters operate pretty similarly, with differences small enough to be represented by these HQs that tweak the list somewhat."
A rumor that I heard a while back (no idea on the source, sorry) was that Templar would be rolled up with Imperial Fists and Crimson Fists into a Sons of Dorn codex. That seems to me like a good idea, as it would give the Fists some much needed character. They're pretty dang bland for a First Founding (that had such a nonconformist Successor, no less).

It wouldn't make sense. You'd have two quite strictly Codex-compliant chapters, which have no reason to be parted from the SM Codex, paired with a definitely not Codex-compliant Chapter.

For all of you over reacting drama kings ....."0h no my BT are not showing up on the web site, cause I was sooo gonna order them right this moment." GW has already stated that no armies in their current catalog are going to be removed. Also if you notice they updated the tab by adding shoulder pad options to the list of items. Sheesh, you lovers of the false emperor are such whiners ...wah! I might not have my own special book I might be dredged to using a benign book like all the other 'Nilla Marines ...I won't be special ...Wah! Get over it

Well, if you still could create a BT army with SM dex, the army wouldn't really be squatted. Catachans used to have their own dex, but now they are back in IG book. Same could happen to BT, but this wouldn't mean that BT would cease to exist.

As they above poster said; Catachans (and specific Eldar Craftworlds....and specific Ork Klans) used to have their own army lists.....to GW they haven't be "removed". They can still be represented by using their "parent" codex. The same thing might happen to BT. Notice that I am not saying that BT WILL be folded into the SM codex or that that would be a good idea. Merely that GW might have a different view of a statement made a rather larger number of years (and design philosophies) ago, and as such isn't really an argument with any great weight. ...

Yeah, I realize that. If it were to happen, I'd imagine they'd do a bit of retcon to make the IF/ CF less strictly Codex Astartes. That was what I meant by giving them some character.

I've never liked the ANGRY Templars. But I doubt they'll Squat the BTs. I believe they'd benefit from being rolled into the vanilla codex though. The 2 special characters plus the Emperors champ could each provide a little special rule that makes your army more BT. That way GW could also push more $20 fine crap IC models.

Special Characterss isn't such a great idea.
You basically get an USR and maybe a Warlord Trait ( 6th ) plus a FoC swap and one or two pieces of unique equipment.
Can't represent what they have now.
Its also impossible to put an Unit entry into a codex and limit the access to this. So either everyone has the options or no one.
Fluffy builds exist if people remember index astartes but they don't if you just have the SM codex.
Give a new player a actual rulebook, a codex SM (5th) and tell him to build a fluffy IH based army.

Templars have always been a sub-tab of Space Marines, as have Dark Angels until recent. Maybe its an error, maybe its a restock, maybe its an update. Who knows? Why are we panicked about this? Chances are that none of you ever intended on ordering from GW anyway, and until we hear otherwise, Templars are still a valid codex with plenty of models in circulation. This is it exactly-they've been a sub forum for the past few years, as were Dark Angels before the recent update. The sky is not falling (yet). I just went and looked: everything, including Grimaldus and co. are still in the same place they've been in for two years. Time to calm down and survive. If anyone dies from panic attacks due to the subject at hand, please have your family mail me your Templars. I'll make a donation to your funeral costs (sending a clown counts as a "donation"). edit-apparently, they fixed it and it was down. I rescind my previous comment about being where they've always been. I still want all models from panic attack related deaths.

Just fell in the GW trap. GW does something, in this case, take BT off the net for a few hours, then gauge the internet rabble to see how much interest there is in BT.
Internet never fails. GW sneezes and people will flock to the internet to talk about it.
Admit it, we are wrapped around GW finger. LOL

The DA were in the same scenario as the BT right now. If you remember the DA did not have their own tab, and they were under the Space Marines tab, and had upgrade sprues and a battle force. The BT still have their codex still for sale, so it is it's own army. It may lay in limbo for awhile, but it might get the DA treatment.
