I think this maybe part of the surprise . Got this on my fb app notifications from their poll:

We are proud to announce The "Games & Gears D&L themed bases". As with our tech we can do intricate detailed battle boards. We will use the same tech to create themed textured bases for all your armies which will be compatible with your Battle Boards. These highly detailed bases will be better value to what is already out there in other materials whilst still retaining the quality and detail. We will also work with Partners to bring their worlds to life for their miniatures via our Games & Gears D&L themed bases. (D&L= Games & Gears Detailed & Legacy themed bases). We aim to be the one stop shop and to insure your get an army of bases at a killer value price. Tell the world things just got better. Designs and pictures to follow in the weeks to come!

Now show us the designs already!

Lots and lots of talk - no pics.

aka - it didn't happen.

When/If these guys relaunch their Kickstarter I'll be sure to announce on my Facebook page that I'm planning to launch a kickstarter for 6x4 plastic injection molded modular boards for only $50 if I get 300 "Super Duper OMGWTFBBQ likes"

Pics coming in 3 months - in the meantime everyone keep talking about it as if it's news.

First themed based design will be exactly like this but on bases:

Second Detailed & legacy Themed base:

The same design and concept will be on bases that are compatible for a whole load of miniature games (it is very normal these days to show design concepts like the above). This concept was announced back in December 2012. So we have been working on it. It just that we are committed to it now and it will happen. We don't want to detract from other KS out there (which is why we have held back a little). But next week we will show more.

Also bear in mind we are working with partners too: Hawk Wargames, Ninja Division & Cipherstudios for now. So we are also incumbent to release pics and designs when our partners are ready too. Also kindly bear in mind many gaming companies make announcements on certain new miniature concepts, rules edition, armies way in advance (some time 6 months to a year) without showing anything. We have shown some designs and will show more soon.

We currently have 8 designs already. We are going through them and when we make them (final prototype, the finished edition) and put models on them as well we will show you. But the above two pics in terms of intricate details is just reference on our capabilities.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also forget to add (instead of editing). All Games & Gears D&L Themed bases will reflect our own battle boards as well.

I wonder what the equivalent GnG tables might look like at the 28mm scale, versus 10mm.

Not bad, but I would love it if the streets were a bit lower.

So are they selling the roads you put on top of the map or the map as well? Or are those the cityscape DZC tiles along with the buildings?

As far as I have gathered by reading the posts. The boards come as they look in the picture as they are base painted. What they said is the idea behind it is that it is ready to play on but for those of us like me who would want to add more paint, flock or whatever you can. The roads are part of the board from my understanding. So yeah those are the plastic boards, I'm so psyched for this!!

Yeah, I agree with this. Making the roads deeper would add that needed final touch of realism.

Hawk Wargames will be down at the Charring Cross Gaming Club in London to show off the Games & Gears Dropzone Commander Cityscape Battle Board this coming Tuesday.

If you are in London UK and can make it you can see it in the flesh. The roads do feel like roads and videos and more pics with 28mm minis to be posted next week. Any deeper road depth though we found you get "cocked" dice and some models do begin to tip, cocked dice is annoying especially on that critical game play moment ;P. We want game play to be seamless and the art, detail and the texture to give the aesthetics, plus 28mm terrain is super abstract. But that's the decision behind the depth. I think when gamers see it in the flesh next week, we look forward to their reactions too. If you are @ GEN CON too you will see it there.

Yes. these are Games & Gears Base Painted Battle Boards (TM) . We wanted to cut out the hours of painting and a ready to play on battlefield that can be worked on to add more detail if the players so wishes that . This allows you to play as is or redo do or even and more to it.

Wow, it looks really great set up as a DzC board. The squares look fine for scale with 28mm, too... but aren't the roads too small for 28mm? Or am I missing something?

Video and closer pics to come on roads . Next week. Also we have a bit on that on the post above. We have played infinity & 40k several times now, Rhinos and vehicles and else work like a treat, which will be demonstrated to the public next week. Although we do advise to change the lanes if you want or leave as is

one more thing. You can have your board 6"-12" out (asin nothing holding the underneath of 6"-12") It will hold your entire 40k or Infinity army like a treat for your deployment set up without any stress. Our new clip system is innovative and does the job it set out to do. So you do not need a 4 by 4 or 6 by 4 pure flat surface underneath to play on your Games & Gears Battle Boards. Both opposite sides can be 6"-12"inches out.

so when can I buy a plain generic 6x8 grass board for historicals?

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games.

Sounds good, but I would still prefer deeper roads, personally I roll my dice in a tray, but I understand the reasoning.

@fullheadofhair. Soonish .

@Psychoticstorm, MK2 trays are being made. Difference between the old ones is that they are now 24" long. To fit the battle boards. Also ample more space to roll those dice!

Armies/causalities, reference cards, templates etc can be placed in the Games & Gears trays which attach to the sides of the boards.

Games & Gears Felt dice trays are recommended to be attached/placed on either right side or left side of the board for dice rolling. So both players can see the results clearly and avoid the "Dice everywhere" on the gaming board scenario.

Were the city planners high on speed or something? Why do the tile sizes change every 5 feet? The council workers contracted to lay them must've gone mad constantly changing tile types.

Oh, that makes perfect sense! It would probably be worth selling a version with no lines painted on the roads, as for 28mm they'd represent a single lane road wide enough for one vehicle, rather than a wide highway for 10mm.

Very smart, though!

@H.B.M.C. LoL . It's the exact replica of Hawk Wargames tiles. We think it looks nifty/sci-fi & keeps it universal to a great extent for 6mm-28mm range games.

@Ritides, Exactly and thanks!

I too am intrigued. I see a Facebook page and references to a Kickstarter that may be looming, but nowhere currently to actually buy a board? Looking to round out our Robotech terrain before it ends up on our doorsteps (sometime before the sun goes nova, of course).

Hrm.. so the mysterious middle step of terrain (between all cardstock and all resin) is revealed. I just watched a DZC cityscape youtube video in anticipation of my cityscape box arrival and the DZC dev mentioned a middle step of terrain priced between the two others and this seems to fit the bill.

I remember seeing pre-orders for the brushes and stands on The Warstore, but they seem to not be their anymore.
