I'm trying help my girlfriend get into 40K, she likes the painting and what have you, and I have a load of spare marines I'm not using, so I thought I'd give them to her, and I was showing her the different chapters, I showed her the Rainbow Warriors Chapter as a joke I might add and she says going going to do them, just to embarrass me but with more Rainbows

haha not really a discussion, I just thought it was priceless

She's going to convert the Chaos lord from the Dark Vengence set to look less like a Chaos marine, and paint him like Loki from the Avengers adding "well he has the bi-frost bridge"

could it get any worse :')

That would be a lot worse. Maybe not as bad as Rainbow marines.

Dang, better hope we don't get some Vixins suddenly interested in the hobby that start taking advantage of us poor gamers by doing that!

While we're on the topic, anyone have any good advice for getting the significant other into the hobby?

My girl's got a knack for painting and crafts so I feel like she'd make an awesome painter and kitbasher even if she doesn't enjoy the gaming or the fluff but I just can't seem to get her to take it seriously

Well why not follow the OP's original master plan (all though he claims it was a joke, it was clearly a stroke of genius) show her rainbow marines

Also I suggest a title change, because in generations to come, when us men are still trying in vain to get our significant others to join in, this gold mine of a plan will not be able to be discovered. 'How to get the significant other in to gaming' is what I suggest.

I gave the orks from Blackreach to my wife to practice painting on before she starts her sisters. She has a set of boys who have weapons painted with rainbow stripes. She is going to paint a set having one each with skin colors matching those in the rainbow. Some are painted normal too. She also did one with bright pink cloths and gold teeth/gun... She calls him the pimp boy. There is also a creepy looking human skin colored one... They are pure comedy when set out together.

She plans to paint her sisters seriously at least.

This is the same reason I'm trying to get her into the hobby, I think she has more interest in Fantasy Wood Elves, she likes everything wood elfy, I think after she's gone to town on the Marines I might get her some to take more seriously. Does you're partner have any interests like that? or maybe a model that she thought would be cool to paint? even if she can't take it seriously at first.

HAHA Honestly I showed her all sorts of Chapters and I thought she'll find it funny, not want to take them

She showed a little interest in the old Star Phantoms though, so here's hoping

Seriously, how much manlier can you get than wearing rainbow or hot pink armor and not caring what your opponents think? The answer is none. None more manlier.

if someone dropped this down on their end of the table, I would be pretty damn stoked. I could care less about kitty, but knowing that someone put that much time and effort into their army would make me think a memorable game was about to be had

Rainbow Warriors aren't that pretty. If you want to go for eye-searing rainbows, the Emperor's Children are the way to go. Green, purple, pink, yellow, red... All wonderful colors to make your opponents' retinas fall out.

Pink's so cliche for Noise Marines. I like the original 80s print noise marines better.

I think I'll let it slide
I just think it's a little disappointing that Rainbow Warriors only get that little rainbow stripe on a pretty standard blue color scheme instead of something altogether more garish.

There was a thread awhile back, about someone wanting to get his younger sister in to the hobby since he didn't have anyone else to play with. So if you want some serious advised perhaps track that thread down.

I'm just going to say, that starting them in on the modeling and painting side of the hobby seems to be a good start. Or perhaps start with a "lighter" game such as X-wing before moving full bore into 40K.

I like to say I have two armies: Necrons, and Imperium.....
