Does anyone have the riptide put together yet? How does it compare size wise to the Dreadknight? I'm looking to scratchbuild one but haven't seen one in person yet. I have access to a dreadknight so I was thinking to compare it to one.

prob wont help but it is roughly the same size [different dimensions though] as the dreadknight kit. though with the riptide you can repose the legs [according to what i have seen] personally haven't bought one yet but it is smaller than my chaos knight but bulkier than the DK, and much greater in bulk than my chaos knight. my chaos knight stands in at 9 inches give or take.

Wow, someone went full on Tron with those suits. Not sure if I like it. Sadly it looks like the Riptide gained an inch or so because of that base.

That's from GW's website and was the Tau army that was in this month's battle report in White Dwarf #400.

LOL! My thoughts exactly! Lots of patience and effort into those neon suits but somehow they just...don't...look...right!

Obviously MFA. If I were in a tourney, I'd have the TO's rule against this abuse.

Nope. :p I like the turkey, it just needs a tail... and Tau have always had something of a Patlabor look about them since they came out in '01. The Riptide being a watered-down Heavyarms gundam is fun, though. Gives me an excuse to pull out my 1/100 scale kits again.
Actually, if you look, the gun is on the same height as it normally is because of the angle of the base, so it's not gaining any kind of height advantage for actually firing.

Big enough and awesome enough, thats all thats needed
Its highly posable, im surprised EVERYONE has given it the stock pose which i personally find weird looking. Im going to pose mine like he just landed from a jump (might be a half inch or so shorter in the end, but i doubt anyone would complain since it clearly states i can pose it freely if i cut off these stems and its still so flippin tall it towers over everything so who cares)

Well, when i assembled mine, i did so very carefully, as its a new model, and i did not quite trust the quality of it (plus its waaaaaay too expensive) so i followed the directions to the letter. Thats why I am stuck with the stock pose for the legs. after i got that assembled I became a little more comfortable and had a little more fun with the rest, but i can see many others having a similar reaction as me. If i do buy another one ill probably have it doing something cool like drop kicking a dreadnought maybe even stepping over this old 2nd edition rhino i have knocking around in my bits box.

Im just glad they made it easy to fix the stock position. Its little pegs you clip off and are completely hidden, so nice...so so nice lol.
I was afraid i would find flat edges that form the ball you see only if you place them together in this position. Basically meaning in order to repose it you would have to do a lot of hack n slashing and use a LOT of greenstuff lol.
Also does anyone else think theres fingers on the inside of the hands of this thing? I really want to open those hands up, at least the one the shield is on. But theres only 3 so ... hmm are they fingers? iunno

i think thats the trend with all crisis suits is that its got "hands" but they are retracted ( i think they didnt want to bother sculpting them back in the day) So far the only official crisis suit models with hands are old Farsight, New Farsight, and the new commander. I wish there was a good Bitz option for making them hands of some kind, even if it was just a short fist so we could do a punch or have it hold a weapon

Cool thanks Good to know that the riptide in it's 'official' pose is slightly taller than a dreadknight. Can't wait till I can get the codex and the models.

I just finished building my Riptide. The model as standard is close in size to the Dreadknight. You could make it slightly bigger by clipping the guide pins and setting your own pose.

Well, I was thinking about possibly picking up a Riptide in the next few days but that picture of it next to the Trygon and oldschool Broadside has put me off it a bit. I didn't realise just how huge it was. Obviously I'm aware that a lot of people love it but to me it looks like someone just plonked down an action figure as a proxy. As the rest of my Tau army is entirely infantry and the smaller suits (Crisis, Stealth and old-style Broadsides) themed around swamp bases (trying to go for a stealthy look) I really don't think it'd look good among them.

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics. |

It is a big model, but if painted and based well it fits in very well with a more "subdued" tau style, my tau have a temperate /jungle camo theme, and I extended it to my riptide.
Over all I really enjoyed building and painting it.
