The prefect example of someone missing the point.
Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.

The only semi appealing thing i've heard about the actual game is that they're trying really hard to get a first person mode that works. They'll no doubt give up, but to me it would make it alot less of a elder scrolls fraud.

Why does everyone insist that this is the wrong direction for TES? It's a different development team and is set 1000 years earlier than Skyrim. It will in no way affect TES6. As for being like other MMOs, well that's what happens with genres.

Yea Im not surprised TBH. EVERYONE wants their genre's next game to push boundaries and do things different and then they complain about how bad it is. Always. Everytime. Which causes the games to flop. Thats why they stick to what works.

It's causing so much stagnation that in the case of MMO's it's taken from when WoW first came out to about 2011 (Maybe later) for any real change in MMO's...

You don't need to spend millions to make good games, the gaming industry is full of innovation, its just that it is rarely seen in AAA games. Personally I have recently bought quite a few low budget, but good, games and not a single AAA game (I think the last one was X-COM).
The reason why TES shouldn't be made into an MMO is not that it won't be a good game (but to be honest they have followed the very well travelled path so it will almost certainly be painfully generic). The real issue is that MMOs simply don't make that much money anymore, people have simply gotten bored with the dated format, just look at TOR and The Secret World.

People want something new, but they do not want it at the cost of breaking things that worked fine before. MMO developers as a rule steadfastly refuse to learn from the immense number of mistakes Blizzard has made over the years with WoW. Take Guild Wars 2 for instance - it makes mistakes that Blizzard was making back in 2004. 2004! To take a more topical example for Dakka, perhaps, Warhammer: Age of Reckoning was released right before Blizzard released Wrath of the Lich King, which fixed many design flaws that were in World of Warcraft that remained in WAR. WAR also had some cool ideas that were marred by other, awful ones.
WoW is the elephant in the room. If you want to compete with it, you need to learn from its mistakes. Developers continually refuse to do this and it's unfair to blame the players for the development team's failure. I bet if you name any poor, downtrodden MMO then it will be riddled with design and development issues that caused its demise.

My experience with mmo players is that they don't actually want anything new. You ask a player how they would do something and you tend to hear rehashes of ideas form games they played before. They lack imagination.

I meant an example of a game that had innovated and then been a failure because people just want clones of the same thing rather than innovation.
ETA: Specifically, an MMO.

I always mentioned how DoW2 was and is a billion times better than DoW1, for example.

Only in modern games. Look at the first three Jak & Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, and Crash Bandicoot games; Enough innovation between the three games of each series that it still felt like the same series (Self contained, not intertwined) but there was definately something new in each.

I never played that, so I can't discuss it from personal experience. I asked a friend who played it and he said his impression was that it was very, very empty with not enough to do, and that the base capture events were boring. It does not sound like an amazing game that was destroyed by unreasonable players, though it does sound like it had its upsides.
I'll certainly be interested in seeing what The Elder Scrolls Online ends up being like - the mention of social features is quite interesting given the surprising lack of focus on them in many MMOs - but I'll be surprised if it avoids making the many mistakes that make it compare poorly to, in particular, WoW.

You do realize when saying "EVERYONE" in that context, Im not literally meaning everyone on the planet of Earth. Obviously this is meant everyone as in nearly all, most of, a big ol chunk of gamers. I too dont really care about pushing gaming boundaries I just want a game I can enjoy. If a new feature makes that better then great, if its going to make playing said game a hindrance or annoyance then not good man, game over

That has its own problems and to be honest it wasn't all that different, its also the only game that I own that I literally can no longer play. Games that try to move away from the MMO mould don't seem to go very far, quite possibly because creating the content required to fill the considerable timesinks that an MMO requires is either extremely expensive or needs to be fudged. The end result is grinding and standardised mechanics (hot keyed abilities, hit points, hard level ranges etc etc etc). Most MMOs have some kind of hook ( WAR's RvR, The Secret World's puzzles TOR's story arcs) but in reality their core game play is functionally identical.
The only MMO that I know that genuinely tries something different is EvE but its complexities mean that it only has 1 imitator, Perpetuum.
As to DoW 2 being better than DoW...wha??

You're still wrong.
It's just a vocal minority that does it. Automatically Appended Next Post: The only advantage DoW has over DoW2 is faction choice.
In every other way, DoW is inferior to DoW2.
