Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions

You may want to look at something like Russian Red Camo, otherwise I would try to mix in some oranges with the reds, afterall most lava at it's hottest point is a bright orange/yellow and fades down to red as it cools. I guess the other question is, how much do you see them fighting on their own world to justify patterning their camo after it?
My Tau are being slated as Urban Specialists, so I will be doing urban digicam.

"You are like a son and together we have all but conquered the galaxy. Now the time has come for me to retire to Terra. My work as a soldier is done and now passes to you for I have great tasks to perform in my earthly sanctum. I name you Warmaster and from this day forth all of my armies and generals shall take orders from you as if the words came from mine own mouth. But words of caution I have for you for your brother Primarchs are strong of will, of thought and of action.

What type of ash are you interested in? Grey is not the only possibility for ash

See that's kind of what my issue is, I dont really want the camouflage to be as if they're trying to blend in with lava you know? The planet has terrain that varies from ash plains to lakes of lava and volcanic rock so if they have alot of reds and oranges they wouldn't blend in with the rest of the environment but I figure with at least a little red then at least at a distance it would help to break up their form without being too noticable. Fluff wise they will be fighting on their world quiet a bit, the sept is on the borders of Tau and Imperial space and is also a target for Orks because of its mineral wealth.

Volcanic ash which normally has a light grey color. That's partially why I was considering the dark khaki or a dark brown color since not all ash is the same color, did you have a suggestion for a color?
I appreciate the quick responses guys!

I think this is a cool idea for a lava world. For infantry you would probably want to go smaller with those lava splotches, but the concept is about right.

Is there a tutorial for that tank or a link with more details on it so I can get the colors?

I remembered it from the dark ages where GW would post articles on their site with tutorials and all that. Eyeballing it and with my limited memory of the article, it looks like Mechanicus drybrushed with Dawnstone and Administratum. Then it's not a drybrush, it's a stippling of Wazdakka, Firedragon Bright and Yriel. I assume that you'd wash it last. Obviously the original article was in the old colors, but that's about where it would translate. I've always thought that was a very interesting and original camo scheme, either way.

I GOT IT!!!! I was looking through my other army books for inspiration and was looking through my IG codex when I remembered that my old IG codex has a slew of paint schemes a couple of which are for volcanic/ash theatres and I found the scheme for the 39th Cadian Veldt fatigues and it fits the image I had in my mind almost perfectly!
